Industrial complex releasing huge amounts of dusts, fumes and wastewater containing heavy metal(loid)s could be a source of heavy metal(loid)s pollution in arable soil. Heavy metal(loid)s pollution in arable soil adversely affect crops safety, subsequently human being. Hence, it is important to accurately assess the heavy metal(loid)s pollution in soil using pollution indices. The objectives of this study are 1) to compare assessment methods of heavy metal(loid)s pollution in arable soils located near industrial complex in Gyeongsang provinces and 2) to determine the relationship between concentration of plant available heavy metal(loid)s and chemical properties of soil. Soil samples were collected from 85 sites of arable lands nearby 10 industrial complex in Gyeongsang provinces. The average total concentration of all heavy metal(loid)s of the studied soils was higher than that of Korean arable soils but did not exceed the warning criteria established by the Soil Environmental Conservation Act of Korea. Only six sites of arable soils for the total concentration of As, Cu and Ni exceeded the warning criteria (As: $25mg\;kg^{-1}$, Cu: $150mg\;kg^{-1}$, Ni: $100mg\;kg^{-1}$). The contamination factor (CF) and geoaccumulation index ($I_{geo}$) of the heavy metal(loid)s in arable soils varied among the sampling sites, and the average values of As and Cd were relatively higher than that of other metals. Results of integrated indices of As and Cd in arable soils located near industrial complex indicated that some arable soils were moderately or heavily polluted. The plant available concentration of heavy metal(loid)s was negatively related to the soil pH and negative charge of soil. Available Cd, Pb, and Zn concentrations had relatively high correlation coefficient with pH and negative charge of soil when compared with other heavy metal(loid)s. Based on the above results, it might be a good soil management to control pH with soil amendments such as lime and compost to reduce phytoavailability of heavy metal(loid)s in arable soil located near industrial complex.
A new phosphorescent cyclometalated heteroleptic iridium (III) complex with an ancillary ligand of 4-azacrownpicolinate was prepared and its metal ion selective phosphorescent chemosensing behavior was investigated. The new iridium (III) complex exhibits notable phosphorescence quenching for Hg2+ in aqueous 50% acetonitrile solution with respect to the selective phosphorescent detection of various metal ions including $Li^+,Na^+,K^+,Cs^+,Mg^{2+},Ca^{2+},Ba^{2+},Fe^{2+},Ni^{2+},Cu^{2+},Zn^{2+},Ag^+,Pb^{2+},Cd^{2+},Cr^{2+},Cr^{3+}$ and $Hg^{2+}$. The phosphorescence quenching for $Hg^{2+}$ increased linearly with increasing concentration of $Hg^{2+}$ in the range of $10{\mu}M-700{\mu}M$ even in the presence of other metal ions, except for $Cu^{2+}$. Consequently, the new iridium (III) complex has the potential to be utilized for the determination of parts per million levels of $Hg^{2+}$ in aqueous acetonitrile media.
A series of catalysts, $NiO/La_2O_3-ZrO_2/WO_3$, for acid catalysis was prepared by the precipitation and impregnation methods. For the $NiO/La_2O_3-ZrO_2/WO_3$ samples, no diffraction lines of nickel oxide were observed, indicating good dispersion of nickel oxide on the catalyst surface. The catalyst was amorphous to X-ray diffraction up to 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ of calcination temperature, but the tetragonal phase of $ZrO_2$ and monoclinic phase of $WO_3$ by the calcination temperatures from 400 ${^{\circ}C}$ to 700 ${^{\circ}C}$ were observed. The role of $La_2O_3$ in the catalyst was to form a thermally stable solid solution with zirconia and consequently to give high surface area and acidity. The high acid strength and high acidity were responsible for the W=O bond nature of complex formed by the modification of $ZrO_2$ with $WO_3$. For 2-propanol dehydration the catalyst calcined at 400 ${^{\circ}C}$ exhibited the highest catalytic activity, while for cumene dealkylation the catalyst calcined at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$ showed the highest catalytic activity. 25-$NiO/5-La_2O_3-ZrO_2/15-WO_3$ exhibited maximum catalytic activities for two reactions due to the effects of $WO_3$ modifying and $La_2O_3$ doping.
NiO supported on zirconia modified with $MoO_3$ for acid catalysis was prepared by drying powdered $Ni(OH)_2-Zr(OH)_4$ with ammonium heptamolybdate aqueous solution, followed by calcining in air at high temperature. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using FTIR, Raman, XRD, and DSC. $MoO_3$ equal to or less than 15 wt% was dispersed on the surface of catalyst as two-dimensional polymolybdate or monomolybdate, while for $MoO_3$ above 15 wt%, crystalline orthorhombic phase of $MoO_3$ was formed, showing that the critical dispersion capacity of $MoO_3$ on the surface of catalyst is 0.18 g/g NiO-$ZrO_2$ on the basis of XRD analysis. Acidity and catalytic activities for acid catalysis increased with the amount of dispersed $MoO_3$. The high acid strength and acidity was responsible for the Mo=O bond nature of the complex formed by the interaction between $MoO_3$ and $ZrO_2$. The catalytic activity for acid catalysis was correlated with the acidity of the catalysts measured by the ammonia chemisorption method.
A series of Ni(II) and Pd(II) complexes bearing N4-type tetradentate ligands, [Ni($X^1X^2$-6-$Me_2bpb$) 1] and [Pd($X^1X^2$-6-$Me_2bpb$) 2]; 6-$Me_2bpb$ = N,N'-(o-phenylene)bis(6-methylpyridine-2-carboxamidate), $X^1$ = Cl, H, or $CH_3$, $X^2$ = $NO_2$, Cl, F, H, $CH_3$, or $OCH_3$) were designed, synthesized, and characterized to investigate electronic and steric effects of ligand on the norbornene polymerization catalysts. Using modified methylaluminoxanes as an activator, the complexes exhibited high catalytic activities for the polymerization of norbornene and the nickel complexes exhibited better catalytic activity the palladium complexes. Ni complex 1a with $NO_2$ group on the benzene ring showed the highest catalytic activity of $4.9{\times}10^6$ g of PNBEs/$mol_{Ni}{\cdot}h$ and molecular weight of $15.28{\times}10^5$ g/mol with PDI < 2.30. Complexes with electron-withdrawing groups are more thermally stable (> 100 $^{\circ}C$), and tend to afford higher polymerization productivities than the ones having electron-donating groups. Amorphous polynorbornenes were obtained with good solubility in halogenated aromatic solvents. A vinyl addition mechanism has been proposed for the catalytic polymerization.
The reaction of bromoacetonitrile with 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{10}$) containing a N-$CH_2$-N linkage produces 17-cyanomethyl-3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo-[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{11}$). The mono-N-functionalized macrocyclic complexes $[ML^2]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II); $L^2$ = 2-cyanomethyl-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[$16.4.0.0^{7.12}$]docosane) can be prepared by the reaction of $L^{11}$ with nickel(II) or copper(II) ion in acetonitrile. The N-$CH_2CN$ group attached to $[ML^2]^{2+}$ readily reacts with water or methanol to yield the corresponding complexes of $HL^3$ bearing one N-$CH_2CONH_2$ pendant arm or $L^4$ bearing one $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group. The $N-CH_2CONH_2$ or $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group of each complex is coordinated to the central metal ion. Both $[NiL^4(H_2O)]^{2+}$ and $[CuL^4]^{2+}$ are quite stable in acidic aqueous solutions, but undergo hydrolysis to yield $[Ni(HL^3)(H_2O)]^{2+}$ or $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$ in basic aqueous solutions. In contrast to $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$, $[Ni(HL^3) (H_2O)]^{2+}$ is readily deprotonated to form $[NiL^3 (H_2O)]^+$ ($L^3$ = a deprotonated form of $HL^3$) in basic aqueous solutions.
Ni-W alloy deposits have lately attracted the interest as an alternative surface treatment method for hard chromium electrodeposits because of higher wear resistance, hardness at high temperature, and corrosion resistance. This study deals with influences of process variables, such as electodeposition current density, plating temperature and pH, on the internal stress of Ni-W nanocrystalline deposits. The internal stress was increased with increasing the applied current density. With increasing applied current density, the grain size of the deposit decreases and concentration of hydrogen in the deposit increases. The subsequent release of the hydrogen results in shrinkage of the deposit and the introduction of tensile stress in the deposit. Consequently, for layers deposited at high current density, cracking occurs readily owing to high tensile stress value. By increasing the temperature of the electrodeposition from $60^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$, the internal stress was decreased. It seems that an increase in the number of active ions overcoming the activation energy at elevated temperature caused a decline in the concentration polarization and surface diffusion. It decreased the level of hydrogen absorption due to the lessened hydrogen evolution reaction. Therefore, the lower level of hydrogen absorption degenerated the hydride on the surface of the electrode, resulting in the reduction of the internal stress of the deposits. By increasing the pH of the electrodeposition from 5.6 to 6.8, the internal stress in the deposits were slightly decreased. It is considered that the decrease in internal stess of deposits was due to supply of W complex compound in cathode surface, and hydrogen ion resulted from decrease of activity.
Electromagnetic wave asorbing properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$, where X was replaced by substitution elements Cu, Mg, Mn, have been studied. The structure, shape, size and magnetic properties of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were analyzed by XRD, SEM, VSM. The relative complex permittivity, permeability, and electromagnetic wave absorbing properties were measured by Network Analyzer. The structure, shape, size and magnetization value of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$ were found to be similar in spite of substitution elements. The coercive force and hysteresis-loss showed maximum value when Mg was substituted for X. The dielectric loss(${\varepsilon}_r"/{\varepsilon}_r'$) was found to be maximum value when Mn was substituted for X. Also the magnetic loss(${\mu}_r"/{\mu}_r'$} was found to be maximum with Cu substitution. The electromagnetica wave absorbing property of the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 4mm thickness was excellent as over - 40dB at 9GHz, and the $Ni_{0.5}-Zn_{0.4}-X_{0.1}{\cdot}Fe_2O_4$-Rubber composite with 8mm thickness was over-40dB at 2GHz. Those composites also showed superior microwave absorbing properties.
In this study, the direct amination of ethanol was performed over impregnated Ni on SiO2-Al2O3 mixed oxide catalysts prepared by varying Si/(Si + Al) molar ratio to 30 mol%. To characterize the physico-chemical properties of the catalysts used, X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2-physisorption, temperature-programmed desorption of iso-propyl alcohol (IPA-TPD), temperature-programmed desorption of ethanol (EtOH-TPD), temperature-programmed reduction with H2 (H2-TPR), H2-chemisorption and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used. The acidic property was continuously increased until Si/(Si + Al) = 30 mol% in SiO2-Al2O3 mixed oxides used. The dispersion of Ni metal and surface area, acid characteristics of the supported Ni catalyst have a complex effect on the catalytic reaction activity. The low reduction temperature of nickel oxide and acidic properties were beneficial to the formation of acetonitrile. In terms of conversion of ethanol, Ni/SiO2-Al2O3 catalyst with a molar ratio of 10 mol% Si/(Si+Al) showed the highest activity and a volcanic curve based on it. The tendency of results were consistent in the metal dispersion and catalytic activity.
Single phae Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-based solid solutions, the Mg2+ of which are replaced by 20mol% of Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and the Pb2+ of which are replaced by 0∼20 mol% of La3+, were synthesized and their ordering structures of B-site cations were investigated by XRD and TEM. The B'-site cations (Mg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+) are disordered while these B'-site cations and the B"-site cations (Nb5+) are nonstoichiometrically 1:1 ordered within the ordered nano-domains dispersed in the Nb5+-rich disordered matrix. The charge imbalance between the B'-rich ordered nano-domains and the B"-rich disordered matrix are compensated by the doping of electron donor such as La3+, which enhances the degree of nonstoichiometric 1:1 ordering. For a given La3+ content, the degree of nonstoichiometric 1:1 ordering increases as the average ionic size difference between the B'-and B"-site cations increases, Ni2+
