A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with 2,2':6':2”-terpyridine (2,2':6':2”-TPR) using a spin coating method was applied for the highly selective and sensitive analysis of a trace amount of $Hg_2^{2+}$ ions. Various experimental parameters, which influenced the response of the 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode to $Hg_2^{2+}$ ions, were optimized. The linear sweep and differential pulse voltammograms for the 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode deposited with Hg show a well-defined anodic peak at +0.65 V (vs. Ag|AgCl). After a 25 min preconcentration time in an $Hg_2^{2+}$ ion solution (0.1 M acetate buffer, pH 5.0), differential pulse voltammetry(DPV) with 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode shows a linear response between $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}M\;and\;2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-7}M$. The least-square treatment of these data produce an equation of I[${\mu}A$] = 0.031 + 0.005C with r = 0.980(n = 5). The detection limit of this electrode with linear sweep voltammetry and differential pulse anodic voltammetry were $2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}M\;and\;8.0\;{\times}\;10^{-8}M$, respectively. The presence of Pb, Fe, Cd, Ti, Ni, Co, Mg, Al, Mn, and Zn did not interfere in the analysis of the $Hg_2^{2+}$ ion. The 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified GCE has been successfully applied in determination trace amounts of Hg in a human urine sample.
Potentiometric cell oxygen sensors using $CaF_{2}$ were fabricated for monitering the oxygen partial pressure in the low temperature range ($300^{\circ}C{\sim}$500^{\circ}C). The disk type oxygen sensors consist of a reference electrode: Air($O_{2}:21%$)|Pt, a solid electrolyte $CaF_{2}$, and a sensing metel Pt electrode. And the change in open circuit emf of the disk type cell was about 45mV for the oxygen concentration range, $0.1%{\sim}10%$, at the cell temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. Also, the reference electrode incorporated type sensor showed the change of 40mV for 0.1% to 10% oxygen partial pressure range.
Due to its characteristics of light weight, high energy density, good safety, long service life, no memory effect, and environmental friendliness, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used in various portable electronic products. The capacity and performance of LIBs largely depend on the performance of electrode materials. Therefore, the development of better positive and negative materials is the focus of current research. The application of metal organic framework materials (MOFs) derivatives in energy storage has attracted much attention and research. Using MOFs as precursors, porous metal oxides and porous carbon materials with controllable structure can be obtained. In this paper, rod-shaped Co-MOF-74 was grown on Ni Foam (NF) by hydrothermal method, and then Co-MOF-74/NF precursor was heat-treated to obtain rodshaped Co3O4/NF. Ni Foam was skeleton structured, which effectively relieved. The change of internal stress changes and destroys the structural volume of the electrode material and reduces the capacity attenuation. Co3O4/NF composite material has a specific discharge capacity of up to 1858 mA h/g for the first time, and a reversible capacity of up to 902.4 mA h/g at a current density of 200 mA/g, and has excellent rate and impedance performance. The synthesis strategy reported in this article opens the way to design high-performance electrodes for energy storage and electrochemical catalysis.
The reduced graphene oxide(rGO)/aluminum phosphate($AlPO_4$)-coated $LiMn_{1.5}Ni_{0.5}O_4$ (LMNO) cathode material has been developed by hydroxide precursor method for LMNO and by a facile solution based process for the coating with GO/$AlPO_4$ on the surface of LMNO, followed by annealing process. The amount of $AlPO_4$ has been varied from 0.5 wt % to 1.0 wt %, while the amount of rGO is maintained at 1.0 wt %. The samples have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The rGO/$AlPO_4$-coated LMNO electrodes exhibit better cyclic performance compared to that of pristine LMNO electrode. Specifically, rGO(1%)/$AlPO_4$(0.5%)- and rGO(1%)/$AlPO_4$(1%)-coated electrodes deliver a discharge capacity of, respectively, $123mAhg^{-1}$ and $122mAhg^{-1}$ at C/6 rate, with a capacity retention of, respectively, 96% and 98% at 100 cycles. Furthermore, the surface-modified LMNO electrodes demonstrate higher-rate capability. The rGO(1%)/$AlPO_4$(0.5%)-coated LMNO electrode shows the highest rate performance demonstrating a capacity retention of 91% at 10 C rate. The enhanced electrochemical performance can be attributed to (1) the suppression of the direct contact of electrode surface with the electrolyte, resulting in side reactions with the electrolyte due to the high cut-off voltage, and (2) smaller surface resistance and charge transfer resistance, which is confirmed by total polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

The effects of conductive additives in a $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}MnO_3$ perovskite bifunctional electrode for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) were investigated in an alkaline solution. Highly porous carbon black (CB) and Ni powder were added to the bifunctional electrodes as conductive additives. The surface morphologies of electrodes containing CB and Ni were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The current densities for both ORR and OER were changed by the addition of CB. The conductive additive changed physical properties of bifunctional electrodes such as the sheet conductance, gas permeability and contact angle. It was observed that the air permeability of electrode was most effective to enhance the currents for ORR and OER.

Nickel-hydrogen battery systems with metal hydride alloys are expected to have both higher energy density and lower pollution than nickel-cadmium cells. Nickel-hydrogen storage cells are expected to be well-suited for use in space crafts for a large capacity power storage system. Their major advantages are not only a capability of deep DOD(depth of discharge) using but also with excellent durability under excessive overcharging and overdischarging. In this study, the charge/discharge capacities, anodic polarization characteristics and durability for the continious charge/diacharge cycling of the $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XVNi$ and $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XV_{0.5}Ni_{1.5}$ alloys were measured by electrochemical method. The electrode properties of the copper or nickel plated $Ti_{1-X}Zr_XV_{0.5}Ni_{1.5}$ alloys were examined with a battery charge/discharge testing system in the temperature range of -5 to $25^{\circ}C$.
We have grown a Nb/Gd bilayer on a$SiO_2$/Si substrate by using a DC magnetron sputtering system, which was fabricated in situ with silicon stencil masks. In order to investigate proximity effect of the Nb/Gd bilayer, we used a planar tunnel junction with an AlOx tunnel barrier by oxidizing the Al ground electrode at the bottom. A $Co_{60}Fe_{40}$ backing of Al was deposited so as to reduce the superconductivity of the Al, ensuring a normal counterelectrode. With a 50-nm-thick Nb layer, we have measured dI/dV (dynamic conductance) by varying the thickness of Gd, which can reveal the density of states (DOS) of the Nb/Gd bilayer as a function of the Gd thickness resulting from the proximity effect of a superconductor/ferromagnet bilayer (S/F). The SF proximity effect in Nb/Gd will be discussed in comparison to our previous results of the CoFe/Nb, Ni/Nb and CuNi/Nb proximity effect; Gd is expected to show different effects since Gd has f-electrons, while CoFe, Ni, and CuNi have only d-electrons. Our studies will focus on the triplet correlation in a superconducting pair.
NiO-YSZ anode-supported single cell was prepared by spin-coating YSZ and LSM slurries as electrolyte and cathode, respectively. Dense YSZ electrolyte film was successfully prepared on the porous NiO-YSZ anode substrate by tuning pre-sintering temperature of NiO-YSZ and co-firing temperature. The thickness of YSZ film was controlled by the solid content of slurry and coating cycles. The experimental conditions affecting on the thickness of YSZ film was discussed. Single cells with the active electrode area ${\sim}0.8\;cm^2$ were prepared by spin-coating the cathode layers of LSM-YSZ mixture and LSM consequently as well. The effects of the pre-sintering temperature and thus the microstructure of NiO-YSZ substrate on the current-voltage characteristics of co-fired cell were investigated.

Sodum bismuth titanate $(Na_{0.5}Bi_{0.5}TiO_3$ or NBT) thin films coated on the $LaNiO_3$ (LNO) electrode by sol-gel methode and rapid thermal annealing (RTA) technique. The NBT (NBT/LNO/Si) thin films examined by x-ray diffraction (XRD). The orientation of NBT was observed for films coated at $900^{\circ}C$, 5 min and $600^{\circ}C$, 60 min. Filed emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed uniform surface composed of grains. The grain size of NBT thin films increased with increasing annealing temperature.
$MnO_2$ is used for the oxide electrode of electrochemical equipments because of its good electric conductivity and low oxygen overpotential. The effect of additives on the properties of $MnO_2$ has been investigated to enhance the electric conductivity and the stability in an acid solution. In this research, the effect of Ni addition on ${\beta}-MnO_2$ was studied by the theoretical quantum chemical method. The calculation was carried out by the discrete variation $X{\alpha}$ method, which is a sort of the first principle method and use Hatre-Fock-Slater approximation. The electron energy level, the density of state, the bond overlap population, the charge density distribution and the net ionic transfer between cations and anions were calculated and discussed. The used cluster model was $(Mn_{10}NiO_{44})^{-44}$.
