A Study on the Reduction of Onboard Transformer Inrush Current of Electric Railway (전기철도 차량 내 변압기의 여자돌입전류 저감에 관한 연구)

  • The neutral section on electric railway system is significant sector in order to prevent short circuit of two electric powers. However, while electric trains pass the neutral section, those speed is decreased and the accident of AC electric traction system and the electric train would be occurred. So the countermeasures are urgently needed. The automatic power switching technology system that is current being research and development is system to improve these problems. Because main object of this system is power change using static switch in the neutral section, it's expected to cause a variety of transients. Especially, onboard transformer inrush current for electric railway train can be occurred more than rated current according to switching time. Therefore, the analysis and improvement are needed to ensure the stability of this system. In this paper, we analyze the operating characteristics of the automatic power switching technology system. Especially, it reviews inrush current according to the closing phase angle. And we propose control plan of inrush current considering the case that voltage is maintained due to counter electromotive force and regenerative braking operation of electric railway train. Finally, the proposed control scheme was reviewed using the transient analysis program.

A Study on the Effective Surge Protection Method from Induced Lightning Surge to Improve Isolate Grounding to Common Grounding (낙뢰 Surge 방호를 위한, 독립접지를 공통접지로 개선하는 효율적인 방법에 대한 연구)

  • This paper proposes the effective method to improve the protection from induced lightning surge by making common grounding from individual grounding. Common grounding under equipotential principle is more effective than individual grounding for lightning surge protection, and so common grounding is indicated as international technical standard under the AC power supply system with neutral line. So, this paper is to propose the effective way of induced lightning surge protection method for currently installed power supply system which has no neutral grounded line and individual grounding which are weak for lightning surge protection. This proposal can improve the power supply system as has neutral line, and improve the grounding system to common grounding system. And also this paper proposes to make effective equipotential system with voltage variable shunting devices for lightning surge protection.

Analysis on the Induced Lightning Shielding Effect According to the Neutral Wire Installation Structure of a 22.9kV Distribution Line (22.9kV 배전선로 중성선 설치 구조에 따른 유도뢰 차폐효과 분석)

  • The electricity distribution system in Korea is adopting a multi-grounding system. Protection of this distribution system against lightning is performed by installing overhead ground wires over the high voltage wires, and connecting the overhead ground wires to the ground every 200 m. The ground resistance in this system is limited not to exceed $50\Omega$ and overhead ground wire and neutral wire are multiple parallel lines. Although overhead ground wire and neutral wire are installed in different locations on the same pole, this circuit configuration has duplicated functions of providing a return path for unbalanced currents and protecting the distribution system against induced lightning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the induced lightning shielding effect according to the neutral wire installation structure of a 22.9kV distribution line in order to present a new 22.9kV distribution line structure model and characteristics. This study calculated induced lightning voltage by performing numerical analysis when an overhead ground wire is present in the multi-grounding type 22.9kV distribution line structure, and calculated the induced lightning shielding effect based on this calculated induced lightning voltage. In addition, this study proposed and analyzed an improved distribution line model allowing the use of both overhead wire and neutral wire to be installed in the current distribution lines. The result of MATLAB simulation using the conditions applied by Yokoyama showed almost no difference between the induced lightning voltage developed in the current line and that developed in the proposed line. This signifies that shielding the induced lightning voltage through overhead wire makes no difference between current and proposed distribution line structures. That is, this study found that the ground resistance of the overhead wire had an effect on the induced lightning voltage, and that the induced lightning shielding effect of overhead wire is small.

  • This paper is to analysis technical characteristics occured in the eletric train power conversion device passing automatic changover system in neutral section of electric railway. Power conversion devices in electric train are classified according to the current type and voltage type. The results of this study is used to ensure the stability of electric train in neutral section of electric railway.

Overheating of NGR (Neutral Ground reactor), by neutral current in distribution system, is important cause of transformer breakdown of substation.   • This paper analyzed the adoption possibility of a low cost single phase active power filter as the neutral current reduction device in three-phase four-wire power system with the balanced or/and unbalnaced nonlinear load conditions. Proposed system can make neutral line current to within rated vale without the phase current THD change of the installed phase line.

  • Traction power is supplied by three-phase alternating current of 154 kV power grid and electric trains are operated on single phase feeding system. It becomes important to use all the three phases equally and convert them into two-phase electric power (90 degree phase rotation) for traction supply. This is achieved by special transformer from the adjacent traction substation which is separated by a neutral section. Neutral section locations are in front of the substation and between the two substations. The first stage of the Seoul-Busan high-speed railway, design curve radius is larger than 7,000 m and the greatest slope is 25‰. The railway track conditions are evaluated as good enough to install a neutral section at the first stage, but a few factors of coasting operation of the train should be considered at the second stage of Seoul-Busan high-speed railway. The neutral section was located at Kim-cheon substation, which made some neutral section problems produced by the operating train, and the neutral section was moved about 1.5 km to the south toward Dong Dae-gu station due to the track operation condition. Some of the trains which stopped at the existing Kim-cheon Gu-mi station produced another motor block failure after moving the neutral section. In this paper, power quality, system performance and track condition, etc. are suggested to solve the problems.

Ground Fault Current Variation of 22.9kV Multi Neutral Grounded Distribution System with CD Type Superconducting Cable (22.9kV 중성점 다중접지계통에 CD형 초전도케이블을 적용한 경우의 지락전류변화)

  • This paper discusses the effects of CD type superconducting cable operation in 22.9kV multi neutral grounded distribution system during L-G fault and counterplans to power system protection. In case of using the 3-phase CD-type superconducting cable, the inductance of superconducting cable system would be decreased due to the current of shield part of superconducting cable, which is opposite direction and nearly equal value with respect to main superconductor. However, when the shield circuit system is operated in shorted state, shield current decreases faulted ground current and give effects to power system protection scheme. This study examines the phenomena of single line to ground fault case in above mentioned system using the EMTDC program and discusses the right operation method of superconducting shield.

  • The neutral section was installed in order to prevent conflict with different phase angle source in electric railway catenary system. The speed of electric train reduced due to coasting operation by notch off when it passed the neutral section. And, the catenary wire was damaged and the accident might be happened because of the arc generation when the electric train passed the neutral section with notch off condition. The inrush current of main transformer installed tiling train is analyzed during the operation of MCB(main circuit break) passing through the neutral section. The instantaneous waveform of load current were analyzed in case of powering and regenerative braking. Inrush current waveform with run of AC railway train showed that inrush current waveform and harmonics, the inrush current generated from main transformer in train has bad effects on power quality problem. In order to reduce these inrush currents, the MCB is connected when the phase angle of voltage is 90 degree. This paper is to measure inrush current and harmonics in main transformer of high speed train in neutral section of electric railway. This measurement report is used to control minimum inrush current in algorithm and power phase angle.
