This paper presents neural network-based recognition system for automatic light emitting diode (LED) inspection. The back-propagation neural network (BPNN) is proposed and tested. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristic data of LED from the inspection process is used for the network training and testing. This study selects 300 random samples as network training and employs 100 samples as network testing. The experimental results show that if the classification work is done well, the accuracy of recognition is 100%, and the testing speed of the proposed recognition system is almost one half faster than the traditional inspection system does. The proposed neural-network approach is successfully demonstrated by real data sets and can be effectively developed as a recognition system for a practical application purpose.
This paper considers reinforcement learning control with the self-organizing map. Reinforcement learning uses the observable states of objective system and signals from interaction of the system and the environments as input data. For fast learning in neural network training, it is necessary to reduce learning data. In this paper, we use the self-organizing map to parition the observable states. Partitioning states reduces the number of learning data which is used for training neural networks. And neural dynamic programming design method is used for the controller. For evaluating the designed reinforcement learning controller, an inverted pendulum of the cart system is simulated. The designed controller is composed of serial connection of self-organizing map and two Multi-layer Feed-Forward Neural Networks.
A back propagation artificial neural network model with one hidden layer is established to correlate the liquid-liquid equilibrium data of hydrocarbon-water systems. The model has four inputs and two outputs. The network is systematically trained with 48 data points in the range of 283.15 to 405.37K. Statistical analyses show that the optimised neural network model can yield excellent agreement with experimental data(the average absolute deviations equal to 0.037% and 0.0012% for the correlated mole fractions of hydrocarbon in two coexisting liquid phases respectively). The comparison in terms of average absolute deviation between the correlated mole fractions for each binary system and literature results indicates that the artificial neural network model gives far better results. This study also shows that artificial neural network model could be developed for the phase equilibria for a family of hydrocarbon-water binaries.
This study was carried out to evaluate the artificial neural network algorithm for water quality forecasting in Chungju lake, north Chungcheong province. Multi-layer perceptron(MLP) was used to train artificial neural networks. MLP was composed of one input layer, two hidden layers and one output layer. Transfer functions of the hidden layer were sigmoid and linear function. The number of node in the hidden layer was decided by trial and error method. It showed that appropriate node number in the hidden layer is 10 for pH training, 15 for DO and BOD, respectively. Reliability index was used to verify for the forecasting power. Considering some outlying data, artificial neural network fitted well between actual water quality data and computed data by artificial neural networks.
The neural network is a mathematical model of theorized brain activity which attempts to exploit the parallel local processing and distributed storage properties. The neural metwork is a good model to be applied for the classification problem, large combinatorial optimization and nonlinear mapping. A multi-layer neural network is constructed to predict rainfall. The network learns continuourvalued input and output data. Application of neural network to 1-hour real data in Seoul metropolitan area and the Soyang River basin shows slightly good predictions. Therefore, when good data is available, the neural network is expected to predict the complicated rainfall successfully.

To operate a process plant safely and economically, process monitoring is very important. Process monitoring is the task to identify the state of the system from sensor data. Process monitoring includes data acquisition, regulatory control, data reconciliation, fault detection, etc. This research focuses on the data recon-ciliation using scale-space filtering and fault detection using functional-link associative neural networks. Scale-space filtering is a multi-resolution signal analysis method. Scale-space filtering can extract highest frequency factors(noise) effectively. But scale-space filtering has too large calculation costs and end effect problems. This research reduces the calculation cost of scale-space filtering by applying the minimum limit to the gaussian kernel. And the end-effect that occurs at the end of the signal of the scale-space filtering is overcome by using extrapolation related with the clustering change detection method. Nonlinear principal component analysis methods using neural network have been reviewed and the separately expanded functional-link associative neural network is proposed for chemical process monitoring. The separately expanded functional-link associative neural network has better learning capabilities, generalization abilities and short learning time than the exiting-neural networks. Separately expanded functional-link associative neural network can express a statistical model similar to real process by expanding the input data separately. Combining the proposed methods-modified scale-space filtering and fault detection method using the separately expanded functional-link associative neural network-a process monitoring system is proposed in this research. the usefulness of the proposed method is proven by its application a boiler water supply unit.
This study proposes bankruptcy prediction model using fuzzy neural networks. Neural networks offer preeminent learning ability but they are often confronted with the inconsistent and unpredictable performance for noisy financial data. The existence of continuous data and large amounts of records may pose a challenging task to explicit concepts extraction from the raw data due to the huge data space determined by continuous input variables. The attempt to solve this problem is to transform each input variable in a way which may make it easier fur neural network to develop a predictive relationship. One of the methods selected for this is to map each continuous input variable to a series of overlapping fuzzy sets. Appropriately transforming each of the inputs into overlapping fuzzy membership sets provides an isomorphic mapping of the data to properly constructed membership values, and as such, no information is lost. In addition, it is easier far neural network to identify and model high-order interactions when the data is transformed in this way. Experimental results show that fuzzy neural network outperforms conventional neural network for the prediction of corporate bankruptcy.

In this paper as a new approach for real-time multitarget tracking, a hybrid OptoNeural multitarget tracking system based on optical BJTC and neural networks data association algorithm is suggested. In the proposed hybrid tracking system, an optical BJTC is introduced as a preprocessor to reduce the massive input target data into a few correlation peak signals and then the neural networks data association algorithm is used for the massively parallel data association between measurement signals and targets in real-time. Finally, new hybrid type OptoNeural target tracking system is constructed and then some experimental results on multitarget tracking is included. The real-time implementation method of the proposed hybrid system is also discussed.

Using neural network approach, the diagnosis of faults in industrial process that requires observing multiple data simultaneously are studied. Two-stage diagnosis is proposed to analyze system faults. By using neural network, the first stage detects the dynamic trend of each normalized date patterns by comparing a proposed pattern. Instead of using neural network, the difference between stored fault pattern and real time data is used for fault diagnosis in the second stage. This method reduces the amount of calculation and saves storing space. Also, we dealt with unknown faults by normalizing the data and calculating the difference between the value of steady state and the data in case of fault. A model of tank reactor is given to verify that the proposed method is useful and effective to noise.

It is very difficult to maintain the performance of estimation models for the new breed of projects since the computing environment changes so rapidly in terms of programming languages, development tools, and methodologies. So, we propose to use the relevant cases for a neural network model, whose cost is the decreased number of cases. To balance the relevance and data availability, the qualitative input factors are used as criteria of data classification. With the data sets that have the same value for certain qualitative input factors, we can eliminate the factors from the model making reduced neural network models. So we need to seek the optimally reduced neural network model among them. To find the optimally case-selective neural network, we propose the search techniques and sensitivity analysis between data points and search space.
