  • This paper presents a fault diagnosis method using neural network-based multi-fault models and statistical method to detect and isolate faults in nonlinear systems. In the proposed method, faults are detected when the errors between the system output and the neural network nominal system output cross a predetermined threshold. Once a fault in the system is detected, the fault classifier statistically isolates the fault by using the error between each neural network-based fault model output and the system output. From the computer simulation results, it is verified that the proposed fault diagonal method can be performed successfully to detect and isolate faults in a nonlinear system.

  • Since introduced by Vining and Myers in 1990, the concept of dual response approach based on response surface methodology has widely been investigated and adopted for the purpose of robust design. Separately estimating mean and variance responses, dual response approach may take advantages of optimization modeling for finding optimum settings of input factors. Explicitly assuming functional relationship between responses and input factors, however, it may not work well enough especially when the behavior of responses are poorly represented. A sufficient number of experimentations are required to improve the precision of estimations. This study proposes an alternative to dual response approach in which additional experiments are not required. An artificial neural network has been applied to model relationships between responses and input factors. Mean and variance responses correspond to output nodes while input factors are used for input nodes. Training, validating, and testing a neural network with empirical process data, an artificial data based on the neural network may be generated and used to estimate response functions without performing real experimentations. A drug formulation example from pharmaceutical industry has been investigated to demonstrate the procedures and applicability of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, we propose AnoVid, an automated video annotation tool based on deep neural networks, that automatically generates various meta data for each scene or shot in a long drama video containing rich elements. To this end, a novel meta data schema for drama video is designed. Based on this schema, the AnoVid video annotation tool has a total of six deep neural network models for object detection, place recognition, time zone recognition, person recognition, activity detection, and description generation. Using these models, the AnoVid can generate rich video annotation data. In addition, AnoVid provides not only the ability to automatically generate a JSON-type video annotation data file, but also provides various visualization facilities to check the video content analysis results. Through experiments using a real drama video, "Misaeing", we show the practical effectiveness and performance of the proposed video annotation tool, AnoVid.

  • A method to predict the risk of lung cancer is proposed, based on two feature selection algorithms: Fisher and ReliefF, and BP Neural Networks. An appropriate quantity of risk factors was chosen for lung cancer risk prediction. The process featured two steps, firstly choosing the risk factors by combining two feature selection algorithms, then providing the predictive value by neural network. Based on the method framework, an algorithm LCRP (lung cancer risk prediction) is presented, to reduce the amount of risk factors collected in practical applications. The proposed method is suitable for health monitoring and self-testing. Experiments showed it can actually provide satisfactory accuracy under low dimensions of risk factors.

  • The corporate credit rating represents an assessment of the relative level of risk associated with the timely payments required by the debt obligation. In this study, the corporate credit rating model employs artificial intelligence methods including Neural Network (NN) and Case-Based Reasoning (CBR). At first we suggest three classification models, as partitioned neural networks, all of which convert multi-group classification problems into two group classification ones: Ordinal Pairwise Partitioning (OPP) model, binary classification model and simple classification model. The experimental results show that the partitioned NN outperformed the conventional NN. In addition, we put to use CBR that is widely used recently as a problem-solving and learning tool both in academic and business areas. With an advantage of the easiness in model design compared to a NN model, the CBR model proves itself to have good classification capability through the highest hit ratio in the corporate credit rating.

  • The neural network approach has been shown to be a general scheme for nonlinear dynamical system identification. Unfortunately the error surface of a Multilayer Neural Networks(MNN) that widely used is often highly complex. This is a disadvantage and potential traps may exist in the identification procedure. The objective of this paper is to identify a nonlinear dynamical systems based on Self-Organized Distributed Networks (SODN). The learning with the SODN is fast and precise. Such properties are caused from the local learning mechanism. Each local network learns only data in a subregion. This paper also discusses neural network as identifier of nonlinear dynamical systems. The structure of nonlinear system identification employs series-parallel model. The identification procedure is based on a discrete-time formulation. Through extensive simulation, SODN is shown to be effective for identification of nonlinear dynamical systems. • This paper is aimed to address a simultaneous optimization of the size, shape, and topology of steel lattice towers through a combination of the radial basis function (RBF) neural networks and the artificial bee colony (ABC) metaheuristic algorithm to reduce the computational time because mere metaheuristic optimization algorithms require much time for calculations. To verify the results, use has been made of the CIGRE Tower and a 132 kV transmission towers as numerical examples both based on the design requirements of the ASCE10-97, and the size, shape, and topology have been optimized (in both cases) once by the RBF neural network and once by the MSTOWER analyzer. A comparison of the results shows that the neural network-based method has been able to yield acceptable results through much less computational time.

  • This paper presents evolvable neural networks based on a developmental model for navigation control of autonomous mobile robots in dynamic operating environments. Bio-inspired mechanisms have been applied to autonomous design of artificial neural networks for solving practical problems. The proposed neural network architecture is grown from an initial developmental model by a set of production rules of the L-system that are represented by the DNA coding. The L-system is based on parallel rewriting mechanism motivated by the growth models of plants. DNA coding gives an effective method of expressing general production rules. Experiments show that the evolvable neural network designed by the production rules of the L-system develops into a controller for mobile robot navigation to avoid collisions with the obstacles.

  • Recently Neural Network techniques have widely used in adaptive and learning control schemes for production systems. However, generally it costs a lot of time for learning in the case applied in control system. Furthermore, the physical meaning of neural networks constructed as a result is not obvious. And this method has been used as a learning algorithm to estimate the parameter of a neural network used for identification of the process dynamics of s signal input and signal output system and it was shown that this method offered superior capability over the conventional back propagation algorithm. This controller is designed by using three-layered neural networks. The effectiveness of the proposed Neural Network-based control scheme is investigated through an application for a production control system. This control method can enable a plant to operate smoothy and obviously as the plant condition varies with any unexpected accident. This paper goal estimate input signal about controller using neural networks.
