Implementation of 4-Wavelength Optical Transceiver with Excellent Transfer/Isolation Characteristics (높은 채널 분리 특성을 가지는 1550nm 대역 4 파장 광모듈 및 광중계기 제작)

  • A 4-wavelength optical transceiver system is designed and implemented by using 4 OADMs (optical add-drop multiplexers), WDMs, and optical transceivers. In this new system, the wavelengths of 1510 nm and 1530 nm are used for upload and download signals, respectively, as well as the wavelengths of 1550 nm and 1310 nm which have been utilized in a 2-wavelength optical transceiver systems. The 4-wavelength optical module shows very encouraging pass characteristics of about - 5 dB and isolation characteristics of less than -40 dB, which is configured with two OADMs, 4 couplers, and WDM couplers by fusion splicing. Noise figure (NF) of the one-stage balanced amplifier designed and fabricated for receiver module is 0.38 dB and the amplifying gain is 14.2 dB. S$_{11}$, S$_{22}$ and input, output VSWR are -28.81 dB, -32.08 dB, 1.05 : 1, 1.08 : 1, respectively.y.

  • In this paper, a novel method of equalization of RF transceivers is suggested for MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna actively studied for high speed data transmission in the recent IMT-2000 system. The core of suggestion is in equalizing the transfer characteristics of multiple transceivers using feedback and memory during the predefined calibration time. This makes it possible to weight the signals in the intermediate frequency, which is easier in the application of recently developed DoA(Direction of Arrival) algorithms. In addition, the time varying optimum cell formation according to traffic is feasible by antenna beam-forming based on the DoA information. The suggested method of equalizing multiple transceivers are successfully verified using envelope simulation. two outputs. This paper is concerned with the diagnosis of multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. As the network size becomes larger in these days, the convent.nal diagnosis methods based on tests and simulation be.me inefficient, or even more impractical. We propose a simple and easily implementable alg?ithm for detection and isolation of the multiple crosstalk-faults in OSM. Specifically, we develop an algorithm for isolation of the source fault in switc.ng elements whenever the multiple crosstalk-faults are.etected in OSM. The proposed algorithm is illustrated by an example of 16$\times$16 OSM.

Optimal valve installation of water distribution network considering abnormal water supply scenarios (비정상 물공급 시나리오를 고려한 상수도관망 최적 밸브위치 결정)

  • Valve in water distribution network (WDN), that controls the flow in pipes, is used to isolate a segment (a part of WDN) under abnormal water supply conditions (e.g., pipe breakage, water quality failure event). The segment isolation degrades pressure and water serviceability in neighboring area during the water service outage of the segment. Recent hydraulic and water quality failure events reported encouraging WDN valve installation based on various abnormal water supply scenarios. This study introduces a scenario-based optimal valve installation approach to optimize the number of valves, the amount of undelivered water, and a shortest water supply path indicator (i.e., Hydraulic Geodesic Index). The proposed approach is demonstrated in the valve installation of Pescara network, and the optimal valve sets are obtained under multiple scenarios and compared to the existing valve set. Pressure-driven analysis (PDA) scheme is used for a network hydraulic simulation. The optimal valve set derived from the proposed method has 19 fewer valves than the existing valve set in the network and the amount of undelivered water was also lower for the optimal valve set. Reducing the reservoir head requires a greater number of valves to achieve the similar functionality of the WDN with the optimal valve set of the original reservoir head. This study also compared the results of demand-driven analysis (DDA) and the PDA and confirmed that the latter is required for optimal valve installation.

Analysis and Design Theory of Aperture-Coupled Cavity-Fed Back-to-Back Microstrip Directional Coupler (개구면 결합 공진기 급전 마이크로스트립 방향성결합기 해석 및 설계)

  • An analysis and design theory of an aperture-coupled cavity-fed back-to-back microstrip directional coupler is presented for the efficient and optimized design. For this purpose, an equivalent network is developed, and simple but accurate calculations of circuit element values are described. Design equations of the coupler are derived based on the equivalent circuit. In order to determine various structural design parameters, the evolutionary hybrid optimization method based on the genetic algorithm and Nelder-Mead method is invoked. As a validation check of the proposed theory and optimized design method, a 10 dB directional coupler was designed and fabricated. The measured coupling was 10.3 dB at 3 GHz, and the return loss and isolation were 31.8 dB and 30.5 dB, respectively. The directional coupler also showed very good quadrature phase characteristics. Good agreements between the measured and the design specifications fully validate the proposed network analysis and design procedure.

Habitat Connectivity between Soraksan and Odaesan National Parks with a Consideration of Wildlife Home Range (야생동물의 행동권을 고려한 설악산 국립공원과 오대산 국립공원간 서식지 연결)

  • Soraksan National Park and Odaesan National Park, that are 20.7 km apart, should play an important role as habitats and corridors for wildlife because they are located in the center of Baekdudaegan. However, landscape features such as small area, fragmentation, and geographic isolation seem to impede the proper ecological functions of these two national parks. Using GIS technique, we examined the pattern of fragmentation in these two national parks and adjacent regions (Sokcho-si, Goseong-gun, Inje-gun, Yangyang-gun, and Hongcheon-gun) encompassing a total of $4573.5km^2$ in area. We then selected the patches suitable for an endangered carnivorous species, leopard cat, based on habitat conditions, and identified the network and stepping stone among patches to enable leopard cats to migrate. Diverse roads and artificial facilities in the study area generated a total of 24,701 patches: 39 patches among these were selected as potential habitats upon considering the habitat condition such as vegetation types and minimum area for leopard cat. Three patches nearby Gyebangsan and Bangtaesan were identified as a potential network center to relieve the effects of fragmentation and isolation of the two national parks. Our results also showed that patches containing Jombongsan and Bangtaesan would act as a source patch from there leopard cats can disperse to both national parks. It is an urgent task to identify the pattern of fragmentation and the connectivity between patches in national parks and adjacent areas for wildlife conservation because almost all national parks confront land- scape problems similar to the two national parks examined in this study.

Design and Fabrication of Dual Linear Polarization Stack Antenna for 4.7GHz Frequency Band (4.7 GHz 대역에서 동작하는 이중 선형편파 적층 안테나의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) stack antenna for private network. The proposed antenna has general stack structure and design airgap between two substrate to obtain the maximum gain. Also, to improve cross polarization isolation, two feeding port is designed to separate for each substrate. The size of each patch antenna is 17.80 mm(W1)×16.70 mm(L1) for lower patch and 18.56 mm(W2)×18.73 mm(L2) for upper patch, which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.6 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.3, and which is 40.0 mm(W)×40.0 mm(L) for total size of substrate. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 100 MHz (4.74 to 4.84 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 150 MHz (4.67 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -20 dB.   • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) antenna with aperture coupled feeding structure for private network. The proposed antenna has general aperture coupled structure and design two port between top and bottom layer to obtain the enhanced isolation. Also, The size of each substrate(top and bottom layer) is 34.0 mm(W)×34.0 mm(L), which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.0 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.4. Also, the size of patch antenna is 12.70 mm(W2)×14.60 mm(L3), and it is located on the top layer. The size of feeding line is 24.0 mm(W2)×1.6 mm(L3), and is located at the bottom layer Also, rectangular slot is located on the ground plane between top layer and bottom layer. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 300 MHz (4.52 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 170 MHz (4.65 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -30 dB.   • Cavity-type beam position monitors were developed in collaboration with KEK to use for the future accelerators such as international linear collider (ILC) or x-ray free electron laser (XFEL) in PAL. BPM components such as BPM cavity, beam tubes, waveguides and feedthroughs were assembled by brazing at the same time to reduce mechanical errors during the fabrication. There are four screwed pins around outer rim of the cavity for the tuning of cavity frequency and x-y isolation. The resonance frequency of BPM is 6.422 GHz, the inner diameter of cavity is 53.822 mm, and the range of mechanical adjusting is $+ / - 250{\mu}m$. The x-y isolation was measured better than -40 dB after tuned. Test results of signal forms, x-y isolations, sensitivities are satisfied within requirements for the KEK ATF2 beam line.

  • As COVID-19, which occurred at the end of 2019, has become a global pandemic, it has emerged as an unprecedented event that quickly destroys a nation's medical and healthcare system in both developed and developing countries. In the 21st century, most of the civil society that aimed for hyperconnected society is facing a new crisis that has not been experienced so far. Indeed, lack of personal protective equipment, isolation of clustered communities, disruption of medical systems necessary for diagnosis and treatment, and disruption of educational and economic activities due to social isolation are emerging. Since the COVID-19 has occurred, many of the difficulties that have occurred in the past six months indicate the basic infrastructure a society should have particularly in a pandemic. These include personal protective equipment (PPE), decontamination and quarantine tools essential for effective response, rapid and precise large-scale diagnosis, medical devices required for patient care, and identification and fast and wide on-line networks that can be used in social isolation. In this first part, we would like to introduce some representative examples of 1) personal protective equipment, 2) prevention of personal and community health, 3) social response through big data and networks within the framework of appropriate technology.

Analysis of Open Toll Segments in Urban Freeways (개방식고속도로 통행특성과 영업체계 전환분석)

  • Two variations of toll roads exist: mainline toll plazas and entry/exit tolls. On a mainline toll system(open toll scheme), all vehicles stop at various locations along the highway to pay a toll. While this may save money from the lack of need to construct tolls at every exit, it can cause lots of traffic congestion, and drivers could evade tolls by going around them. With entry/exit tolls, vehicles collect a ticket when entering the highway, which displays the fares it will pay when it exits, increasing in cost for distance travelled. Upon exit, the driver will pay the amount listed for the given exit. The pressures on the Seoul ring roadway network have been changing over time. In the past, the emphasis was on mobility and maintenance of the road network to provide an efficient transportation network, but recently, road use has outstripped the network's ability to extend and expand the road network and hence the policy emphasis has moved towards reducing free riders rather than mitigating its effects. In addition to this pressure is an incidental pressure, which argues that provision of free ride segments generates further traffic in isolation of other factors. This paper is examining policies to reduce the burden of traffic congestion in Seoul ring roadway which is used open toll scheme for decades. One key mechanism to achieve this policy aim is automatic charging mechanism on freeway, but if a nation-wide electronic toll collection is to be implemented successfully, there are a number of prerequisites which must be place.
