  • In this paper, measurements of ion mobility were performed in oxygen at gas pressures of 44.52 - 101.19 kPa using the drift tube method. Over this pressure range, mobility values were within the limits of 1.796 to $3.821cm^2{\cdot}V^{-1}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ were determined and ion mobility shown to decrease non-linearly with increasing gas pressure towards a certain level of saturation. Ion mobility measured in air was lower than that measured in oxygen at the same gas pressure. Finally, a parameter correction method for calibrating the relationship between the ion mobility and gas pressure in oxygen was proposed.

  • Laser has been applied in various diagnostic and therapeutic medical fields. For last few decades, medical low-level laser devices have been introduced in market, but they have limitations which cannot convey enough energy to deep layer of tissues for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. To address the issue, there have been many studies of using physical and chemical methods; it is one of ways to apply negative or positive pressure to tissue. However, it is hard to apply desired pressure on tissues continuously when practical laser devices arc used. In this study, we introduce a low-level laser probe which allows maintain pressure on skin tissue. Consequently, we are confident that the pressure probe for low-level laser treatment should be a useful tool in order to deliver sufficient energy for practical uses.

  • The procedures currently used for determining microbiological quality of natural mineral water recommend filtration through membrane filters. In this study, we evaluated the effect of vacuum pressure for the accurate detection of bacteria from water samples seeded with Escherichia coli. We observed that the number of E. coli detected increased with increasing vacuum pressure. In order to examine the retention rate of bacteria in the holes of the membranes under the different pressures, the membrane filters were removed after filtration, washed with sterile water by vortexing, and placed on m-Endo agar plates. With all the filters tested, the number of E. coli retained within the filters at negative 600 mmHg was approximately 10 to $20\%$ higher than that obtained with 100 mmHg. These results demonstrate that the vacuum pressure exerted during the filtration procedure may affect the fixation of bacteria into some portions of openings in the membrane filter.

  • This study was to investigate if Body Mass Index(BMI) is adequate as a method of physique classification of Korean female college students. For this study 571 students were selected to examine physique classification by anthropometric index, and the correlation between the various anthropometric index and risk facters(blood pressure, triglyceride, hematocrit). The following results were obtained by this study. 1) Average age of the subjects is 19.6, height 158.2cm and weight 54.4g. 2) All anthropometric indices and body fat percentage are highly correlated (r>0.713), among them BMI shows high and significant positive correlation with weight(r=0.919) and skinfold thickness(r>0.601), but negative correlation with height(r=-0.086). 3) All anthropometric indices and body fat percentage show significant correlation with blood pressure and triglyceride. Among them BMI shows high and significant positive correlation with blood pressure and triglyceride. 4) FAT% III calculated of BMI shows significant with FAT% I and FAT% II by skinfold thickness, and high correlation with blood pressure and triglyceride. Therefore FAT% III is adequate for calculation method of body fat percentage.

  • An efficient inverse method for 1.he supersonic/hypersonic axisymmetric body design is developed for the parabolized Navier-Stokes equations. The developed method is examined numerically for three extreme testcases in the supersonic(M/sub ∞/=3.0) and hypersonic(M/sub ∞/=6.28) speeds. The first one is a negative pressure distribution near a vacuum pressure and the second one is a positive pressure distribution over the whole region of the body. The last one is the case of abrupt change of pressure distribution to zero in the forward region of the body. These testcases show the robustness of the method. By introducing a regular-falsi method and by using a not-fully converged inverse solution, the convergence behavior was greatly improved.

  • A silicon pressure sensor made of a full bridge of diffused resistors was designed and fabricated using semiconductor integrated circuit process. Thin diaphragms with 30\ulcorner thickness were obtained using anisotropic wet chemical etching technique. Our device showed strong temperature dependence. Compensation networks are used to compensate for the temperature dependence of the pressure sensor. The bridge supply voltage having positive temperature coefficient by compensation networks was utilized against the negative temperature coefficient of bridge output voltage. The sensitivity fluctuation of pressure sensor before temperature compensation was -1700 ppm/\ulcorner, while it reduced to -710ppm\ulcorner with temperature compensation. Our result shows that the we could develop accurate and reliable pressure sensor over a wide temperature range(-20\ulcorner~50\ulcorner).

  • In this study, the characteristics of wind pressure distribution on circular retractable dome roofs with a low rise-to-span ratio were analyzed under various approaching flow conditions by obtaining and analyzing wind pressures under three different turbulent boundary layers. Compared to the results of previous studies with a rise-to-span ratio of 0.1, it was confirmed that a lower rise-to-span ratio increases the reattachment length of the separated approaching flow, thereby increasing the influence of negative pressure. Additionally, it was found that wind pressures varied significantly according to the characteristics of the turbulence intensity. Based on these experimental results, a model for peak net pressure coefficients for cladding design was proposed, considering variations in turbulence intensity and height.

  • Correlations of adolescents' blood pressure with dietary factors and blood or urinary electrolytes were investigated in this study. Through the screening for blood pressures of 960 middle school students aged 13-16 years, 30 students with the mean value of SBP and DBP above 96th percentile(high blood pressure group) and the other 30 with the mean blood pressure between 48th and 52th percentiles(normal blood pressure group) were selected as the subjects. SBP/DBP of the high and talc normal blood pressure groups were $141.8{\pm}9.0$ / $83.6{\pm}5.1$ mmHg and $116.4{\pm}3.5$ / $69.8{\pm}3.7 mmHg$, respectively. The average values of age, weight, height, BMI, degree of relative crude physical activity, and family income were not different between two groups. Among nutrients for which intakes were determined by 24 hour-recall and expressed as percent RDA, intakes of total and animal calcium were lower in the high blood pressure group compared to the normal, and were negatively correlated with both SBP and DBP even when the effects of related general and other dietary factors were excluded. Whereas energy, total, animal and vegetable protein, total and animal lipid, and riboflavin were higher in intake in the high blood pressure group than in fille normal, and they were in positive correlations with SBP and/or DBP. Vitamin A and ascorbic acid intakes were also negatively correlated with DBP, though ascorbic acid intake was not different between two groups. High blood pressure group preferred higher concentration of thin rice gruel than normal group and talc preferred salt concentrations was ill positive correlation with SBP. Serum and urinary levels of Ca, Mg, Ca/Mg ratio, Na, K and Na/K ratio did not show any differences between two groups. However serum Ca/Mg retio was in negative and se겨m Mg was ill positive correlations with SBP, and urinary Na excretion was negatively correlated with SBP. Calcium intake showed negative correlation with serum Ha and Na/K ratio. Our data indicated that dietary intake of Ca, energy, protein, lipid, vitamin A and C as well as salt preference were associated with blood pressure in adolescents. It might be assumed that Ca lowered blood pressure by increasing serum Ca/Mg ratio and decreasing serum Ca/K ratio though urinary excretion of Na.

  • Theoretical studies of concentration for negative ion and neutral species in electrical excitation discharge have been conducted at $CO_2-N_2-He=1-7-12$, total pressure 20torr. With a computer model of neutral and negative ion processes we have calculated that the concentration of co was less than 20% when expected molecular.
