  • We have studied the electrical properties and microstructure of $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y[(YNS)-123]$ Oxides by rod-type seeded melt growth process(RSMG) in air atmosphere. Rod-type $NdBa_2Cu_3O_y${Nd-123) seed crystals made a extrusion process method, were used for achieving the ab-plane alignment having large grains perpendicular to the center of (YNS)-123 samples. The observations using SEM and TEM micrographs of the melt-textured (YNS)-123 samples revealed that the nonsuperconducting $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y[(YNS)-211]$ inclusions are uniformly distributed in the superconducting matrix. The microstructure and electrical properties were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and DC SQUID magnetometer. The sample showed a sharp superconducting transition at 90 K. The magnetization values of the (YNS)-123 sample exhibited the enhanced electrical properties, compared with $YBa_2Cu_3O_y$(Y-123) sample.

  • The conditions of zone-melting method such as a sample travel speed in a furnace, content of Nd422, control of melting temperature, and heat-treatment with/without Ar gas for $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ superconductor was optimized, As a results, a $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ sample with a surface area of $25mm^{2}$ showed a good superconducting properties when its travel speed was 6 mm/h, The improvement of superconductivity added with 10~20 wt% of Nd422 phase increasing pinning effect was also shown. The critical current density, $J_{c}$ was remarkable affected by the condition of heat-treatment temperature of $NdBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$superconductor with/without Ar ambient gas.

  • We have studied the superconducting properties and flux pinning enhancement of $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_y$ [(YNS)-1.8] composite oxides by melt growth process in air. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_2BaCuO_5$ [(YNS)211] nonsuperconducting particles were uniformly dispersed in large (YNS)123 superconducting matrix. The sample showed a sharp superconducting transition at 91 K. The magnetization measurements of the (YSN)-1.8 sample exhibited the enhanced flux pinning, compared with $YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ (Y-123) sample without Sm and Nd.

  • Two kinds of $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$, the sintering samples and zone melting samples, were heat-treated under pure Ar at 950$^{circ}C$. The substitution of Nd ion for Ba ion in the $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ before and after the heat treatment was investigated by XRD. In order to confirm the effects of the heat treatment, the Tc and Jc of samples with/without the heat treatment under Ar were comparatively studied. $Nd_{1+X}Ba_{2-X}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ samples were oxygenated under pure oxygen at $300^{circ}C$. From the XRD pattern it was found that the sample with x<0.4 was transferred from tetragonal phase to orthorhombic phase after the oxygenation, while the sample with x>0.4 did not show the phase transition even after a long time oxygenation. Therefore, the low oxygen partial pressure (Ar+1 % O$_2$) was used for the ambient atmosphere of the zone-melting samples, which could reduce the melting temperature and depress the substitution of Nd for Ba. After the improvement in the zone-melting process, the Jc value was increased to 2 x $10^4$A/$cm^2$ (0 T, 78 K). The particle orientation and the structure of zone-melted NdBaCuO were studied by the XRD and SEM analysis.

  • Directionally melt-textured high $T_c\;(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ [(YNS)-123] superconductor was systematically investigated by the zone melt growth process in air. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_{2}BaCuO_5$[(YNS)211] inclusions were uniformly dispersed in large $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ [(YNS)123] matrix. High irreversibility field and magnetization hysteresis loop of the zone melt-textured (YNS)-123 sample exhibited the enhanced flux pinning, compared with $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ (Y-123) sample without RE(rare earth). Critical current density of (YNS)-123 sample was $2.5{\times}10^4\;A/cm^2$ at 2 T and 77 K.

  • NdBaCuO thin films were prepared on $SrTiO_{3}$ substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. These as-grown films were classified into 3type. The resistivity of the deposited films are usually lower than of the YBCO film. The Tc (onset) and Tc (R=0) in the optimized thin films are as high as 90 and 80K, respectively. These as-grown films are highly uniform and semi-trans parent and have a room temperature resistivity of $0.3m{\Omega}cm$.

  • High $T_c(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y[(YNS)-123]$ superconductors with/without $CeO_2$ additive were systematically investigated by the zone melt growth process in air. Cylindrical green rods of (YNS)-123 oxides were fabricated by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) method using rubber mould. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_2BaCuO_5[(YNS)211]$ nonsuperconducting inclusions were uniformly dispersed in large $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y$[(YNS)123] superconducting matrix. In this study, optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1100^{\circ}C$ and 3 mm/hr, respectively. The directionally melt-textured (YNS)-123 sample with $CeO_2$ additive showed an onset critical temperature $(T_c)\;T_c{\geq}93K$ and sharp superconducting transition.

  • Two kinds of Nd$_{1+x}$Ba$_{2-x}$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$, the sintering samples and zone melting samples, were heat treated under pure Ar at 95$0^{\circ}C$. The substitution of Nd ion for Ba ion in the Nd$_{1+x}$Ba$_{2-x}$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ before and after the heat treatment were investigated by XRD. In order to know the effects of the heat treatment, the T$_{c}$ and J$_{c}$ of samples with the heat treatment and those without the heat treatment by Ar were comparatively studied. The results show that the substitution of Nd for Ba decreased, T$_{c}$, and J$_{c}$ increased after the treatment under Ar at 95$0^{\circ}C$. The Nd$_{1+x}$Ba$_{2-x}$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ samples were oxygenated under pure oxygen at 30$0^{\circ}C$. • The effect of Ca-doping on the superconducting properties of Nd-Ba-Cu-O bulk superconductors, fabricated by the oxygen-controlled melt growth process, has been systematically investigated. Various c-axis textured bulk samples were grown using precursors with the nominal compositions of N $d_{1.8-x}$C $a_{x}$B $a_{2.4}$C $u_{3.4}$ $O_{y}$ (x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15) in a reduced oxygen atmosphere of 1% $O_2$ in Ar. Magnetization measurements revealed that the critical temperatures( $T_{c}$) were almost linearly depressed from 95K to 86K with increasing the Ca dopant from x = 0.0 to 0.15, respectively, and thus critical current densities( $J_{c}$) at 77K and for H//c-axis of specimens were gradually degraded with increasing x. Compositional analyses revealed that although the amounts of the Ca dopant both in NdB $a_2$C $u_3$ $O_{y}$(Nd123) and N $d_4$B $a_2$C $u_2$ $O_{10}$(Nd422) were increased with increasing x, only less than half of the initial Ca compositions were detected in melt-grown Ca-doped Nd-Ba-Cu-O bulk crystals. The supression of $T_{c}$ is attributed to an increased Nd substitution for the Ba site in the Nd123 superconducting matrix with increasing the amount of the Ca dopant.t.opant.t.t.t.t.t.

  • $(YSmNd)_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_{7-x}$ [(YSN)1.8] high $T_c$ superconductor was directionally grown by zone melt growth process, in air atmosphere. In this study, optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1100^{\circ}C$ and 3.5 mm/hr, respectively. The microstructure of well-textured (YSN)1.8 samples were examined by XRD, optical microscopy, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. The critical current density of these samples were measured by the direct transporting current method. In the observation using an optical microscopy, nonsuperconducting $(YSmNd)_2BaCuO_5$[(YSN)211] inclusions of (YSN)1.8 superconductor uniformly distributed within the superconducting (YSmNd)$Ba_2Cu_3O_x$[(YSN)123] matrix. The directionally melt-textured (YSN)1.8 superconductor showed an onset $T_c{\geq}90\;K$ and sharp superconducting transition. The transport $J_c$ values were 830 A and $3.93{\times}10^4$ (A/$cm^2$) at 77 K self-field, respectively.
