  • Scientific literacy for all became a new goal and introducing STS issues into science curriculum shows new trends in science education. The educational importance of natural environment of a region is increasing because it can serve as a vehicle to meet the new goal and trends of science education. The opportunity to learn about Korean natural environment in schools was investigated. The characteristics and unique patterns of Korean natural environment are not well reflected in the intended curriculum. School teachers mostly believe that education of Korean natural environment will greatly contribute to the students' learning of the subject matter they teach and environmental problems. However, they have limited opportunity to teach Korean natural environment. Various elective courses dealing with our natural environment should be provided in schools, especially for non-science majors. Out-of-school activities and facilities for Korean natural environment should be made available.

  • This paper proposes two variants of BCG-like method for solving nonsymmetric linear sytems. It is shown that these new algorithms converge faster and more smoothly than the existing BCG and BiCGSTAB algorithms for problems tested in this paper.

  • Conventional fault tree analysis has several problems as the estimations and tolerances of the failure probability values. To overcome these problems, fuzzy concepts with natural language can be applied to conventional fault tree analysis. And, we propose the evaluation method of the imprecision of top/basic events and possibility importances of basic events.

  • Recently food problem and crop disaster have been increased continuously because of the meteorological changes. These cause rising cost for crops continuously and irregularly. Some researchers have studied straight structure of device for hydroponics and plant factory previously to solve a fundamental part of these problems. However, there are several problems such as limited crop cultivation space, providing irregular nutrients for crops, and lack of monitoring interfaces. For them, we propose an optimal growth and development crops management system using light source tracking and recirculation of nutrient solution method to supply nutrient continuously based on IoT. In order to evaluate the performance of our system, we compared and analyzed in terms of two viewpoints, the tracking analysis for natural light source measurement and the growth of crops through artificial light, LED, respectively. We confirmed that the higher the duty ratio of LED, the larger the crop's size, particularly. As well as, for about 1 month, we compared with the existing natural light growing environment and that of our system. It was confirmed that the size of the crops grown through our system is about three times larger than that of natural light natural crops.

  • The finite element method is used for the study of the eigenvalue problems of partially fixed end beams with intermediate elastic supports. The elastic critical loads and natural frquencies of the beams are investigated by changing the numbers of elastic supports and their stiffness, and also by changing Kinney's fixity factor, $f_a$. The relationship between two eigenvalues is established by calculating the corresponding values of $(w/w_n)^2$ through changing $(P/P_{cr})$ values. The results of this study are as follows : (1) The elastic critical loads and natural frequencies of beams increase with increases in Kinney's fixity factor, $f_a$ and with the increased numbers of intermediate elastic supports. (2) The relationship between elastic critical loads and the natural frequencies of partially fixed end beams with intermediated elastic supports is $P/P_{cr} + (w/w_n)^2/ = 1$ without regard to Kinney's fixity factor, the stiffness of elastic supports, or the number of elastic supports.

  • In recent years increased attention has been directed towards the problems of vibration and noise in superstructure, which have caused major problems with regard to the environmental afterbody of the ship, and the fore-and-after vibration of superstructure due to the vertical vibration of main hull girder is the most important as for the inhabitation of the ship. Accordingly, in this paper, the characteristics of the fore-and after vibration of superstructure and studied systematically with regard to the shape and height of superstructure based on finite element method of beam-like model. The study is divided into two parts, one is the calculation of natural frequencies and the other is the investigation of response at the top of superstructure caused by in its harmonic excitation force at the stern of hull girder. For the natural frequency the calculation results are shown that the higher superstructure is, the lower the natural frequencies of the fore-and-after vibration of superstructure is. It means that the natural frequency of superstructure is close to that of hull girder. The response of vertical direction at the stern of hull girder induced by unit harmonic force is less affected by the shape and the height of superstructure but the response of the fore-and-after direction at the top of superstructure is affected considerably by those of superstructure.

  • Natural photosynthesis utilizes two proteins, photosystem I and photosystem II, to efficiently oxidize water and reduce NADP+ to NADPH. Artificial photosynthesis which mimics this process achieve water splitting through a two-step Z-schematic water splitting process using man-made synthetic materials for hydrogen fuel production. In this study, Z-scheme system was achieved from the hybrid materials which composed of hydrogen production part as photosystem I protein and water oxidizing part as semiconductor BiVO4. Utilizing photosystem I as the hydrogen evolving part overcomes the problems of existing hydrogen evolving p-type semiconductors such as water instability, expensive cost, few available choices and poor red light (>600 nm) absorbance. Some problems of photosystem II, oxygen evolving part of natural photosynthesis, such as demanding isolation process and D1 photo-damage can also be solved by utilizing BiVO4 as the oxygen evolving part. Preceding research has not suggested any protein-inorganic-hybrid Z-scheme composed of both materials from natural photosynthesis and artificial photosynthesis. In this study, to realize this Z-schematic electron transfer, diffusion step of electron carrier, which usually degrades natural photosynthesis efficiency, was eliminated. Instead, BiVO4 and Pt-photosystem I were all linked together by the mediator gold. Synthesized all-solid-state hybrid materials show enhanced hydrogen evolution ability directly from water when illuminated with visible light.

  • In the present study, we consider modified 5-node equivalent solid element which has smallest degree of freedom among 2-dimensional solid elements accounting bending deformation as well as extensional and shear deformations, We shall investigate static and dynamic characteristics of this element, which is very effective in thin beam, thick beam, large displacement problems, beam of variable thickness, and asymmetrically stepped beam, etc., as well as relatively simple problems of beam. The degree of freedom of this element is 10, which is smaller than 18 of 9-node element, 16 of 8-node elemtns, 12 of modified 6-node element and Q6 element. Therefore, this element is expected to broaden the effective range of application of the solid elements in the bending problems further.

METHODS: To simple but exact method of calculating natural frequencies corresponding to the modes of vibration of road structures with different cross sections and arbitrary boundary conditions. The effect of the $D_{22}$ stiffness on the natural frequency is rigorously investigated. RESULTS: Simple method of vibration analysis for calculating the natural frequency of the different cross sections is presented. CONCLUSIONS: Simple method of vibration analysis for calculating the natural frequency of the different cross sections is presented. This method is a simple but exact method of calculating natural frequencies of the road structures with different cross sections. This method is extended to be applied to two dimensional problems including composite laminated road structures.
