  • Till now there are several rendering models for water and simulating other fluids and their dynamics. Especially in order to generate a curved surface of flexible objects such as liquid and snow, the implicit metaball formulation is widely used in favor of its simplicity and flexibility. This paper proposes one excellent method for generating water droplets, which would be deformed in gravitation field. In previous works, a water droplet was simply represented by approximated curved surfaces of a symmetric metaball. Thus the final result of the rendered water droplet was far from a realistic droplet, because they do not consider the gravitational effect in droplets. We propose a new metaball model for rendering water droplets placed on an arbitrary surface considering the gravitation and friction between droplet and plate. Our new metaball model uses a new vector field isosurface function to control the basic scalar metaball with respect to the norm of gravitational force. In several experiments, we could render a photo-realistic water droplets with natural-looking shadows by applying ray-tracing.

  • In this paper, we present a novel method for creating a hand-painted painterly animation, starting from a video input. One of the most important aspects in painterly animation is to maintain the temporal coherence of brush strokes between frames, which plays a vital role to warrant a smooth transition between frames. Our unique utilization of motion areas enables users to produce a smooth movement of brush strokes. The motion areas are the parts where objects move between frames and they are categorized in two main types. A strong motion area is the part where the movement of real edges and hidden edges is determined by the motion vector between frames. The real edge is the outline of an object and the hidden edge is the boundary to represent the direction of a grain of intensity in the areas with gradations. A weak motion area is the remainder after subtracting the strong motion area from the entire motion area. Temporally coherent painterly animation is achieved by re-painting the brush strokes on the canvas using two motion areas, resulting in a natural and hand-painted appearance.

  • Suncheon Bay is a very important natural resource and various efforts have been made to protect it from the environmental pollution. Although the project to monitor the environmental changes in periodically by observing the creatures in tidal flats is processing, it is being done inefficiently by people directly observing it. In this paper, we propose an object segmentation method that can be applied to the method to automatically monitor the living creatures in the tidal flats. In the proposed method, a foreground map representing the location of objects is obtained by using a temporal difference method, and a superpixel method is applied to detect the detailed boundary of an image. Finally the region of crab is extracted by combining the foreground map and the superpixel information. Experimental results show that the proposed method separates crab regions from a tidal flat image easily and accurately.

  • Tsunami is a frightful natural disaster that causes severe damages worldwide. To minimize the damage, South Korea has built a tsunami warning system and designated evacuation sites in the east and south coasts. However, such countermeasures have not been verified whether they are adequate to minimize casualties since tsunami rarely occurs in South Korea. Recently, due to increasing earthquakes in the west coast of Japan, the likelihood of South Korea entering the damage area of tsunami rises; thus, in this paper, we develops a simulator based on Unity game engine to simulate the evacuation from tsunami. In order to increase the fidelity of the simulation results, the simulator applies a tsunami simulation model that analyzes coastal inundation based on cellular automata. In addition, the objects included in tsunami evacuation, such as humans, are modeled as an agent model that determines the situation and acts itself, based on the discrete-event system specification (DEVS), a mathematical formalism for describing a discrete event system. The tsunami simulation model and agent models are integrated and visualized in the simulator using Unity game engine. As an example of the use of this simulator, we verify the existing tsunami evacuation site in Gwangalli Beach in Busan and suggest the optimal alternative site minimizing casualties.

  • This study discusses the beauty of the ideal body shown by fashion communication media, and explains how aesthetic aspects of, the body are being expressed in contemporary fashion. The beauty of the body may be considered as the beauty of sexual, controllable or consumable object. First. the most vigorously discussed point about the body is its sexual aspect, the most outstanding of which is the voluptuous and the androgynous beauty in contemporary fashion. Second, the body is an object which has been oppressed or controlled under the name of history. morality. and rationality. The things making us regard the body itself as an aesthetic object may be considered as dynamic and functional beauty Third, the sexual instinct and the body are fetishized as consumer goods, and women's bodies are presented as comsumer objects whose most parts could be restored to exchangeable value. The consumable beauty presented in contemporary fashion is the conspicuous beauty and the decadent beauty. So far, the various aspects of the beautiful body has been considered, based on the beauty of the ideal body shown by the fashion communication media. Man exists through on his body. but it is the embodied and formed body that serves as a means to manifest his social status and cultural ties. A natural body is reformed as a cultural phenomenon in various artificial ways. Popular culture has transmitted a series of new body image by creating and reproducing symbols and images, and has made the ideal body. Now there is not only one standard for the ideal beauty in our society. The standard of the beauty has changed continuously. There has been an aesthetic sense which can represent the times during the process of those changes. The various communication media have played a role of mirror reflecting those changes. The ideal body in contemporary times is no more an abstract media to express classical beauty, but an object directly affecting us, who are living in the crisis of subjectivity and identity.

  • The study aims to determine the significance and characteristics of self-similarity inherent in natural objects or phenomena, the existence of self-similarity in design created by fashion designers, and the traits and internal significance implied in self-similarity and their effects on fashion. The subject of the study is Viktor & Rolf, and the scope of the study is the collections created from 2001 to 2014, which include designs implemented in their early years and those unveiled in the media. Self-similarity means attributes of a fractal structure appearing without change in the original form, even after modification of scale or direction in terms of shape or phenomena. As self-similarity is applied to the arts and design sectors, it leads people to pay attention to fundamental characteristics and intrinsic forms as a factor of expressing a unique creative world. Analysis of Viktor & Rolf collections generated ribbons, overlapping/juxtaposition, side decorations and exaggerated design elements as basic units of self-similarity. These factors had self-similarity rates as high as 84%. Self-similarity was established as design elements formed in the incipient stage were repeated in a certain form, and continued for a long period of time. It served as an element that recognizes design and a fashion designer at the same time. Characteristics of self-similarity appearing in Viktor & Rolf collections can be summarized as homeostasis based on an equivalent relationship, balance based on self-organization, reducibility into essential elements, and uniqueness based on odd shapes. These characteristics influenced the pursuit of consistent brand image, the maintenance of a fashion designer's creative world, the formation of styles and the expression of a fashion designer's identity.

  • When it comes to the architecture design, Kuma Kengo rejects a strong and violent subject-centered position and advocates the design that is object-oriented. As can be seen in 'gentle architecture', 'three lows principle', 'natural architecture', and 'connecting architecture', he clearly expresses the objective nature of architecture design in those terms. In this respect, the purpose of this study is to make a close inquiry into the meaning, effect and characteristics of objectivity. In particular, we try to identify the contents of 'impure architecture', which has a clear ambivalence to be an instrumental expression strongly settled in the objectivity, in an aesthetic standpoint. To do that, we systemized the concept of mimesis and the theory of subversive appropriation by Walter Benjamin and Theodor Adorno in to a frame of interpretation. By systemizing translation, subversion, verbalization and the dialectic structure of the aesthetics of negation, we interpreted the features of his works as an objective work and 'impure architecture'. His objectivity leads the situation by subversively appropriating the inherent elements of architectural conditions based on a dialectic solution in which inquiries on logical and scientific materials have played a critical role. Above all, through all these processes, he tried to suggest a language as a new technique for materials and structures. Ultimately, we could find out that this object oriented design sublates a subject oriented way that is monolithic and repetitive regardless of objects. Rather, it is a way that is effective in creating a new way of design by making a different approach to a new object rather unfamiliarly, yet deeply.

  • The contemporary concept of publicness is reinterpreted from the point of view of contemporary publicness. Contemporary perception of public space has now branched and grown into a multitude of non-traditional sites with a variety of programs in mind. In this study, the aim is to discuss how contemporary public library has been evolved as public space and how to create User-centered interaction. In the case of developed countries, the Public Libraries have showed the expected effects because they have more systematic and efficient plan. Also, these libraries are placed with each facility, not distributed separately. It promotes the accumulation of profit on the space and Increases the efficiency. They support more effectively users' activities through the linkages between each facility and create the active interaction between users. Formation of the various interactions and synergies between space had been induced. Publicity means that the state will relate a combination of a number of specific public area. In addition, open space, public place, shall be directed to: This place as one of the users in order to have meaning, must be equipped with the facilities and space to communicate and understand the local role. Methods of the study are to analyze the concept and role of the users with the concept of modern publicity, to examine the concept of multi-complexity of public libraries for the user-oriented publicness, to learn about the characteristics of public spaces in the public libraries that appear in the advanced countries, to examine how to affect these characteristics in the public libraries, and to suggest the possibility and the various application methods on the characteristics of a public space. In the end, the public libraries for the realization of the publicity, support program complexity such as education and culture, welfare facilities, and public service facilities. In the 21st century, these complexity to improve the quality of service in public libraries. These spaces can be an alternative to be kept comfortable in a more vibrant area, and can affect the social, natural, cultural, and environmental aspects of the physical environment and the objects and relationships, as well as expand.

  • This paper is the first of several companion papers which compare the methods of Air-fuel ratio determination. There are many methods which calculate Air-Fuel ratio from exhaust emission. Most of them are based on the simple chemical equations, which use balance of atom, and the error of the calculation is negligible as far as the instrumentation accuracy is guaranteed. They assume homogeneous mixture and complete combustion to the extent of oxygen availability. Because of these simple assumptions, they cannot offer the information about the fuel distribution state and the malfunction of instrument. For these limitations, Eltinge offered new one based on stricter mathematical model. This result coincides with the others very well and gives more information about the mixture state and instrumentation. Consequently this might be a general solution for Air-fuel ratio determination and exhaust composition. The objects of the calculation, however, were not commercial fuels except gasoline and the compensation method of unburned hydrocarbon was not appropriate to recent analyzer. Moreover he did not consider the fuel which contains oxygen, such as methanol, ethanol and blend of gasoline-alcohol. In this paper, Eltinge chart is expanded to the arbitrary fuel composition as the reference exhaust compositions for the purpose of further discussions about Air-fuel ratio determination methods and the charts fur gasoline, diesel, methanol, M85, liquefied petroleum gas(LPG), natural gas(NG), propane, butane are illustrated.

  • Even though local governments are committed to the landscape management aiming to enhance the quality of the urban and natural landscape, the results are not satisfactory since the landscape plan is performed through the "routine" process, on which the planning system is based. Many local governments had spent much in making their landscape plans, but these plans were evaluated not so much "useful" in the practical sense. The objective of the study, which aims to systematically readjust the existing landscape management system of Korea, is to analyse the landscape plans of the few local governments, which are categorized in two level - upper and low local government. The analysis of landscape plan is performed in terms of four factors: The composed structure, the objects of the plan, the effectiveness of the landscapeindicators and guidelines and the institutional system.
