  • Relaxed Static Stability (RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. The T-50 advanced supersonic trainer employs the RSS concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance. And the flight control system stabilizes the unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. The T-50 longitudinal control laws employ a proportional-plus-integral type controller based on a dynamic inversion method. The longitudinal dynamic modes consist of short period with high frequency and phugoid mode with low frequency. The design goal of longitudinal control law is optimization of short period damping ratio and frequency using Lower Order Equivalent System (LOES) complying the requirement of MIL-F-8785C. This paper addresses phugoid mode characteristics such as damping ratio and natural frequency that is affected by the nonlinear control laws such as angle of attack limiter, auto pitch attitude command system and autopilot of pitch attitude hold.

  • In order to investigate the vibration characteristics of fluid-structure interaction problem, we modeled two rectangular identical plates coupled with bounded fluid. The fixed boundary condition along the plate edges and an ideal fluid were assumed. An experimental modal analysis in order to extract the modal parameters of the system was performed. Finite element analysis was performed using ANSYS to verify modal parameters and analytic results were compared with experimental results. As a result, comparison of experiment and FEM showed good agreement and the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The effect of distance between two rectangular plates on the fluid-coupled natural frequency was investigated.

  • The definition of the radiation efficiency is very important to estimated underwater radiated noise of a ship. Considering the structure of the ship, it can be found that the hull of a ship consists of a lot of plates supporting by longitudinal and transverse stiffener. Therefore, various modes of the hull vibration occur related to the combination of these plates including stiffeners. In this paper, the method to define the radiation efficiency is suggested considering the vibration mode of the hull based on Uchida's experimental equation of the radiation efficiency. The suggested method is verified by the experiments with various kinds of naval vessels.

  • This paper relates to the flexural vibration analysis of the hard disk drive (HDD) spindle systems by means of the finite element method. In contrast to previous researches, every system componebt is here analytically modeled taking into account its flexibility and also the centrifugal effect particularly for the disk. To prove the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method, commercial HDD spindle systems with two and three identical disks are chosen as examples. Then, their major flexural natural modes are computed employing only a small number of element meshes as the shaft rotaional speed is varied, and compared with the bumerical or experimental results.

  • this paper presents a dynamic analysis of the high-speed spindle system for vertical machining center using finite element techniques. The computed natural frequencies are compared with the measured frequencies obtained from experimental modal analysis. The results show that the bending and twisting deformations of the spindle housign dominated in the lowest modes owing to low dynmic stiffness of the housing structure. The design parameters used in the analysis are:(a) panel thickness of the housing (b) height of the housing and (c) spindle-to-column distance of the housing. Through sensitivity analysis and optimizing simulation considering design constraints an optimal design of the spindle system has been obtained.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration of two identical circular plates coupled with a bounded fluid. An analytical method based on the [mite Fourier-Bessel series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method is suggested. In the theory, it is assumed that the ideal fluid is filled in a rigid cylindrical container and the two plates are clamped along the plate edges. The proposed method is verified by the finite element analysis using commercial software with a good accuracy. Two transverse vibration modes, namely in-phase and out-of-phase, are observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system when the number of nodal circles increases for the fixed nodal diameter. The effect of gap between the plates on the fluid-coupled natural frequency is also investigated.

  • Dynamic characteristics of the bell-type structure including acoustic effects and transient dynamic problems were analyzed numerically. Natural frequencies, mode shapes and transient dynamic analysis used the finite element method with 3-D general shell element. Mode shapes and stress distributions of transient dynamic analysis were expressed by computer graphics. The method using this study was evaluated by comparision of theoretical results at reference papers(14), (15) and the experimental test using Fast Fourier Transform analyzer. Vibrational modes governing acoustic characteristics of the typical bell-type structure depended on the first flexural mode(4-0 mode) and the second flexural mode(6-0 mode). Asymmetric effects by Dangiwas, acoustic holes gave rise to beat frequencies, and the Dangjwa was found to be most effective. When impact load acted on the bell, stress concentration occured at the rim part of bell. It was found that the bell type structure should be designed thickly at the rim part in order to prevent impact load from stress concentration.

  • In this paper, a study of damage detection for 2-Dimensional Truss Structures using the parametric projection filter theory is presented. Many researchers are interested in inverse problem and one of solution procedures for inverse problems that are very effective is the approach using the filtering algorithm in conjunction with numerical solution methods. In filtering algorithm, the Kalman filtering algorithm is well known and have been applied to many kind of inverse problems. In this paper, the Parametric projection filtering in conjunction with structural analysis is applied to the identification of damages in 2-D truss structures. The natural frequency and modes of damaged truss model are adopted as the measurement data. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the numerical examples.

  • This paper investigates how two different modes of feedback (selective vs. comprehensive) affect selected students' writing development in terms of three different types of measurement (accuracy, fluency, and complexity). 139 university students participated in the study, and 278 writing samples were analyzed. The results of the study indicate that participants who received selective feedback wrote more accurately and fluently than their counterparts. However, in terms of complexity, both selective and comprehensive groups showed no sign of improvement in semester-based investigations. The results of this study support Skehan's (2009) theory of trade-off effects, suggesting that 'natural' tension exists between accuracy and complexity when resources are limited. Moreover, this finding contrasts with the theory of Cognition Hypothesis, which proposes that task complexity will be associated with increases in complexity and accuracy. In the study, selected participants (N=21) strongly nominated their error sources as unfamiliarity toward using key words, usage, transition, and sentence types. This study not only contributes to the accumulation of our current knowledge in the related area of theory, but offers educational implications for those who are dealing with intermediate-level students when deciding what particular teaching content should constitute a priority within a limited instructional period.

  • This paper discusses the techniques, procedures and the results of the ground vibration test(GVT) performed on the development aircraft and the simple procedure of FE model updating technique from the GVT results. The GVT was carried out using random excitation technique with MIMO(Multi-Input-Multi-Output) data acquistion method, and taking full advantage of poly-reference global parameter estimation technique to identify the vibration modes. In dynamic FE modeling, the aircraft was represented by beam elements and all dynamic analysis was performed using MSC/NASTRAN for this model. In updating procedure, the stiffness of the beam model was adjusted iteratively so as to get the natural frequencies and mode shapes close to the GVT results.
