  • Nonhomogeneous Poisson Process is often used to model failure times which occurred in software reliability and hardware reliability models. It can be characterized by its intensity functions or mean value functions. Many parametric intensity models have been proposed to account for the failure mechanism in real situation. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian semiparametric approach based on beta-mixtures. Two real datasets are analyzed.

  • In this paper we investigated a replacement model with two types of repairs. Repairs are classified into minimal and perfect repair. An operating unit is completely replaced whenever it reaches age ${\tau}({\tau}>0)$(planned replacement). If it fails at age $t<{\tau}$, it is either restored by a entire unit with probability p(t)(perfect repair), or it undergoes minimal repair with probability $\bar{p}(t)=1-p(t)$. After a planned replacement, the procedure is repeated.

  • We treat the problem of estimating reliability R = P[Y < X] in the stress-strength model in which a unit of strength X is subfected to enviromental stress Y./ In this paper several nonparametric approaches to estimation of R are analyzed and compared by simulations.

  • Under contamination, Bahadur representations with a strong remainder term are derived for random central order statistics with a prescribed limiting rank, and asymptotic normalities for these statistics of truncated and contaminated data are proved, with a suitable limiting rank. From these results, an application to the fixed-width confidence interval problem is available.

  • This paper considers the independence test for two stationary infinite order autoregressive processes. For a test, we follow the empirical process method devised by Hoeffding (1948) and Blum, Kiefer and Rosenblatt (1961), and construct the Cram${\acute{e}}$r-von Mises type test statistics based on the least squares residuals. It is shown that the proposed test statistics behave asymptotically the same as those based on true errors.

  • Several information criterions, Schwarz information criterion (SIC), Akaike information criterion (AIC), and the modified Akaike information criterion ($AIC_c$), are proposed to locate a change point in the multiple linear regression model. These methods are applied to a stock Exchange data set and compared to the results.

  • Public library statistics can be a useful tool for measuring public library resources and services and also supporting management process including planning and policy development. This study attempts to present an advanced national public library statistics system to report accurate description of public library situation. Main user groups and useful areas of public library statistics were identified through literature review, and the emerging trends of public library statistics systems at the national and international levels were summarized. Current public library statistics system, annually collected and published by the Korean Library Association, was analyzed and ways for the improvement were suggested particularly in the aspects of validity, reliability, consistency, currency, and utility.

  • In Korea, mathematics education has been taken according to the 7th national mathematics curriculum renovated by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development announcement in 1997. The education of probability and Statistics has been carried out as a part of this curriculum. We analyze and compare mathematics 1 textbooks for 11-12 grade students. Descriptions of random variable, sample variance and sample standard deviation, distribution of sample mean, and etc. which are on some textbooks, are misleaded in school education. We suggest the unbiased estimator of sample variance in accordance with textbooks and central limit theorem of sample mean under normal population.

  • It is already known from the previous study that flood seems to have heavier tail. Therefore, to make prediction of future extreme label, some agreement of tail behavior of extreme data is highly required. The LH-moments estimation method, the generalized form of L-moments is an useful method of characterizing the upper part of the distribution. LH-moments are based on linear combination of higher order statistics. In this study, we have formulated LH-moments of five distributions useful in hydrology such as, two types of three parameter kappa distributions, beta-${\kappa}$ distribution, beta-p distribution and a generalized Gumbel distribution. Using LH-moments reduces the undue influences that small sample may have on the estimation of large return period events.
