  • The study attempted to document the concept of farm tourism by categories and to evaluate the farm tourism projects developed in Kyungpook area, and also to formulate a device for improving such projects in Kyungpook area. For these purposes we have examined the existing patterns of farm tourism projects developed in Kyungpook area since 1986 and evaluated such projects conducted in same area. We also attempted to find out what were the problems conducting such projects. To estimate the demand patterns of farm tourism we have done a survey conducted in city and urban areas and documented consumer's preferences which patterns were willing to. Finally we suggested, in this study, several strategies for improving the farm toruism projects in Kyungpook area.

  • During a survey of undiscovered taxa in Korea, two zygomycete fungal isolates, EML-BT5-1 and EML-BT5-2, were isolated from the seed of a pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) fruit in Korea. Based on their morphological characteristics and a sequence analysis of four genes, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, 18S, 28S rDNA, and EF-$1{\alpha}$, the isolates were confirmed to be Syncephalastrum monosporum in the family Syncephalastraceae. To our knowledge, the zygomycete fungal species S. monosporum has not been previously described in Korea.

  • During a survey of fungal diversity in the class Sordariomycetes, 3 fungal strains, CNUFC-KMHY6-1, CNUFC-MSW24-2-11, and CNUFC-GW2S-4 were isolated from soil and freshwater samples, respectively in Korea. The strains were analyzed both morphologically and phylogenetically on the basis of internal transcribed spacer and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit gene sequences. On the basis of their morphology and phylogeny, CNUFC-KMHY6-1, CNUFC-MSW24-2-11, and CNUFC-GW2S-4 isolates were identified as Arcopilus aureus, Memnoniella echinata, and Stachybotrys sansevieriae, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, Ar. aureus and M. echinata have not been previously recorded in Korea, and this is the first report of S. sansevieriae from freshwater niche.

  • Three fungal isolates designated as CNUFC-YR329-1, CNUFC-PTS103-1, and CNUFC-PTS2-1 were discovered during a survey of fungal diversity of the order Mortierellales from freshwater and pine tree rhizosphere soil samples in Korea. The strains were analyzed morphologically and phylogenetically based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (LSU) of ribosomal DNA gene sequences. Based on their morphology and phylogeny, the three isolates were identified as Mortierella elongata, M. horticola, and M. humilis, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, M. elongata, M. horticola, and M. humilis, belonging to an undiscovered taxon, have not been previously described in Korea.

  • During a survey of plant-inhabiting fungi and water niches from Korea, noteworthy fungi were collected; among them, two new species, Paracamarosporium noviaquum sp. nov. and Phyllosticta gwangjuensis sp. nov., are described based on morphology and multi-gene phylogenies. Paracamarosporium noviaquum was characterized by its production of 1-celled and 2-celled conidia, forming conidiomata on only potato dextrose agar medium. Phyllosticta gwangjuensis was characterized by conidia hyaline, ovoid to ellipsoid shape, rounded at both ends, containing numerous guttulae or with a single large central guttule. Additional species were identified as Cosmospora lavitskiae, Monochaetia cameliae, and Roussoella doimaesalongensis, which are reported as new record species from Korea. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of these taxa are provided herein.

  • Chili pepper (Capsicum annum) is origin of subtropical region, and has been spread all over the world. It is increasing the production and consumption in recent year. Chili peppers are readily incorporated into local South Asian cuisines perhaps because people are already familiar with pungent and spicy flavors. Chili peppers, despite their fiery "hotness", are one of very popular spices known for their medicinal and health benefiting properties. Especially in South East Asia, they grow up so many cultivars of them recently, so it is so important crop world wide. In South East Asia, there are some articles about chili pepper in Thailand and Indonesia, but in Vietnam there is not so much information about chili pepper. In this paper, we analyzed genetic diversity in Vietnamese Chili pepper through the survey of local chili pepper. As a result, we got 38 kinds of chili fruits, 26 kinds of leaves and some information from farmers all in Vietnam. And I made the phylogenetic tree by SSR with 10 DNA markers. Finally we found the genetic similarities by regions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the preference of plant environmental images for flower plant consumption. This study came up with a total of four treatments including one image without plants and three images with flower plants (three roses, rose gift, rose garden). We conducted a survey on 104 men and women through the Google (online) survey and analyzed the data. The preference was higher with statistical significance for environmental images with plants than the image without plants. The preference for environmental images of roses was highest in the order of rose gift > rose garden > three roses. As a result of the cross-tabulation analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference in the preference for environmental images of roses according to general characteristics such as educational background and residence type. In terms of educational background, 2-year college graduates showed higher preference for the three environmental images of roses with statistical significance compared to high school graduates, university graduates and masters or higher. As a result of determining the difference in preference according to residential types, residents of multiplex houses showed higher preference for the "rose garden" environment image than residents of detached houses (p < .05). As a result of examining stress and depression in everyday life, 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents answered that they were "under daily stress" and 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents claimed not to be "under much depression". This study investigated the difference in preference according to demographic characteristics and existence of plants, preference in environmental images using roses, correlation with daily stress and depression, and utility of publicity using photographic images of plants.

  • The study was designed to forecast and derive future core technologies using Delphi method in Korea agriculture. The technologies will make agriculture for core and strategic industry that has high value-added in 21 century. Questions were given to specialists by each technology in order to survey importance, realization time, level of R&D in Korea and foremost country, leading group of R&D, effective policy, etc. for each technology. The target of the survey for Delphi is confined specialists in the area of Bioystems Engineering. 55 core technologies were derived and 31 specialists answered the survey.
