Core-shell structured nanoparticles are garnering attention because these nanoparticles are expected to have a wide range of applications. The objective of the present study is to improve the coating efficiency of gold shell formed on the surface of silica nanoparticles for $SiO_2@Au$ core-shell structure. For the efficient coating of gold shell, we attempt an in-situ synthesis method such that the nuclei of the gold nanoparticles are generated and grown on the surface of silica nanoparticles. This method can effectively form a gold shell as compared to the conventional method of attaching gold nanoparticles to silica particles. It is considered possible to form a dense gold shell because the problems caused by electrostatic repulsion between the gold nanoparticles in the conventional method are eliminated.
N-Propylsulfamic acid supported onto magnetic $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles (MNPs-PSA) was used as an efficient and magnetically recoverable catalyst for synthesis of 2H-Indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-1,6,11(13H)-trione derivatives from the three-component, one-pot condensation reaction of phthalhydrazide, aromatic aldehydes and cyclic 1,3-diones, in good to excellent yields at $100^{\circ}C$ under solvent-free conditions. The catalyst was easily separated with the assistance of an external magnetic field from the reaction mixture and reused for several consecutive runs without significant loss of its catalytic efficiency. In order to compare, the synthesis of 2H-Indazolo[ 2,1-b]phthalazine-1,6,11(13H)-trione derivatives in the presence of catalytic amount of sulfamic acid (SA) under same reaction condition was also reported.
With the current rapid development of nanotechnology and synthesis technology for designed oligonucleotides or oligonucleotide-modified nanoparticle conjugates, the combined strategies have become one of the most valuable methods in detection technology for DNA analysis. Using the uniquely recognizable interactions of pre-designed DNA molecules in assembling nanoparticles, various novel approaches have been recently developed towards detecting specific DNA sequences. Here we describe the key fundamentals and issues of this promising strategies ranging from the initial findings of rationally designed DNA-based assembly of nanoparticles to the extended chip-based detection system. Some limitations of these new strategies and possible approaches will be also discussed for the practical application in the area of DNA microarray detection.
Fullerene oxide[$C_{60}(O)_n$, ($n{\geq}1$)] was synthesized by dissolving fullerene[$C_{60}$] and 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid in toluene under refluxing condition for 5 h. Hybrid fullerene oxide-silver nanoparticle composites were synthesized by dissolving fullerene oxide and silver nitrate[$AgNO_3$] in diethylene glycol under ultrasonic irradiation for 3 h. The synthesized hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible[UV-vis] spectroscopy. The catalytic activity for the reduction of various nitroanilines[NAs] was identified by UV-vis spectrophotometer. The efficiency of the catalytic reduction by the synthesized hybrid nanocomposites has an order of 4-NA > 2-NA > 3-NA.
Gallium nitride (GaN) nanoparticles are synthesized by the gallium particle trapping effect in a $N_2$ nonthermal plasma with metallic Ga vapor. A proposed method has an advantage of synthesized GaN nanoparticle purity because the gallium vapor from the inductively heated tungsten boat does not contain any impurity source. The synthesized particle size can be controlled by the amount of Ga vapor, which is adjusted using the plasma emission ratio of nitrogen to gallium, owing to the particle trapping effect. The synthesized nanoparticles are investigated by electron microscopy studies. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) studies confirm that the synthesized GaN nanoparticles (10-40 nm) crystallize in a single-phase wurtzite structure. Room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements indicate the band-edge emission of GaN at around 378 nm without yellow emission, which implies that the synthesized GaN nanoparticles have high crystallinity.
Molecular imaging refers to detect the biochemical process in living organisms at the cellular and molecular levels and to quantify them. Due to several advantages of nanomaterials, various molecular images using nanomaterials are being tried. Attempts have been made to combine nanoparticles, known as micro- or nanosized nanomaterials, with radioactive isotopes for molecular imaging probe. The radiolabeled nanoparticles will expend the molecular imaging due to nanoparticle's size-dependent nature. In particular, iron oxide nanoparticles can be used for magnetic resonance imaging, can be adjusted in size, easily functionalized, and biocompatible, making it a very good platform for molecular imaging. In addition, iron oxide nanoparticles may be the best example for a new approach to molecular imaging techniques. In this paper, we introduce various methods for preparation of iron oxide nanoparticle combined with radioisotope starting from various synthesis methods of iron oxide nanoparticles to utilize iron oxide nanoparticles as a platform for molecular imaging through radioactive labeling.
This cycloaddition of [70]fullerene with methyl azidoacetate in benzene under ultrasonic irradiated condition afforded the closed [5,6]-bridged aziridino[70]fullerene derivative, which was unusual product of cycloaddition to the 5,6-junction of fullerene. Its structure was determined by FAB-MS, UV-vis, $^1H-$ and $^{13}C$-NMR spectral data. The closed [5,6]-bridged aziridino[70]fullerene-functionalized gold nanoparticle films were self-assembled using the layer-by-layer method on the reactive of glass slides functionalized with 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane. The functionalized glass slides were alternately soaked in the solution containing closed the [5,6]-bridged aziridino[70]fullerene and 4-aminothiophenoxide/hexanethiolate-protected gold nanoparticles. The closed [5,6]-bridged aziridino[70]fullerene-functionalized gold nanoparticle films have grown up to 5 layers depending on the immersion time. The self-assembled nanoparticle multilayer films were characterized using UV-vis spectroscopy showed that the surface plasmon band of gold at 527 nm gradually became more evident as successive layers were added to the films.
Nanomaterials synthesized by natural bioresources such as microorganisms, animals and plants in nature can also be synthesized in laboratories even on large scale. This is considered as an attractive prospect for eco-friendly or so-called green synthesis. Development of eco-friendly synthesis of biocompatible nanoparticles and their potential biomedical applications introduces the concept of nanobiotechnology. The lower cost and lesser side effects as compare to chemical methods of synthesis are the main advantages of biosynthesis. This review article demonstrates the role of various biological resources e.g. bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, plant leaves, fruits and honey as well as animal tissues for the synthesis of nanoparticles mainly gold and silver with an overview of their potential applications.
