The objectives of this study are to investigate a bromate behaviour in the processes of advanced water treatment system (AWTS: preozonation, coagulator-settler, rapid sand filter, postozonation, biological activated carbon (BAC) beds) and to investigate the effects of ozonation, pH and ammonia nitrogen on bromate (${BrO^-}_3$) formation. As a result, $BrO_3$ was not detected in the processes of the AWTS without ozonation, while it was detected in a preozonated and postozonated water. For $BrO_3$ formation during June to November, the $BrO_3$ concentration of <9.4${\mu}g/L$ was observed in postozonated water, while it was reduced to about 46% by BAC beds. When applied ozone dosage and ozone contact time for influent with $Br^-$ of <0.3mg/L were 0.5-2.0mg/L.min and 10 min., $BrO_3$ concentration increased with increasing ozone dosage. Longer contact time and lower ozone level also was needed to inhibit the formation of $BrO_3$. At ozone dosage of 1.4 mg/L.min, the formation rate of $BrO_3$ increased with increase of pH value. When $NH_4-N$ concentration increased from 0.1mg/L to 0.4mg/L, $BrO_3$ concentration decreased to about 38%. These results revealed that $BrO_3$ concentration increased with increasing Br level, ozone dosage, and pH value, while it decreased with increase of $NH_4-N$ concentration.

In the upstream of Nakdong river in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, certain areas of riverside were found to be covered by weathered mine tailings which were assumed to be migrated and deposited by flood. This study was conducted to investigate the formation and characteristics of the secondary minerals from tailings and related leaching behavior of heavy metals in the severely weathered tailing deposits by river waters. Quartz, feldspar, micas, chlorite, hornblende, talc, pyroxene (johannsenite), pyrite, and calcite were identified as primary minerals by XRD. Kaolinite can be formed by the weathering of tailings, but considering the short period of weathering time, kaolinite in the deposits is considered to be from unweathered tailings or moved from soils. The secondary minerals such as goethite, gypsum, basanite, and jarosite were also identified. The formation of the secondary minerals was affected by the species of primary minerals and pH conditions. The weathering of pyrite produced sulfate minerals such as gypsum, basanite, jarosite, and also goethite. Mn oxide was also identified by SEM, coated on the primary minerals such as quartz. This Mn oxide was poorly crystalline and thought to be the weathering product of johannsenite (Mn-pyroxene). The Fe and Mn oxides are the main minerals determining the brown/red and black colors of weathered tailings. EDS results showed that those oxides contain high concentrations of Pb, Zn, and As, indicating that, in the river, the formation of Fe and Mn oxides can control the behavior and leaching of heavy metals by co-precipitation or adsorption.
In an effort to interpret the characteristics of fine particle concentrations in Busan, time variations of hourly monitored concentrations $PM_{10}$ (Particulate Matter with aerodynamic Diameter ${\le}10\;{\mu}m$) in Busan are analyzed for the period from 2000 to 2005. The characteristics of aerosol second generation formation process is also interpreted qualitatively, by using the statistical analysis of the meteorological variables including temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity. The result shows some significant annual, seasonal, weekly and diurnal variations of $PM_{10}$ concentrations. In particular, seasonal(i.e., spring) variations are governed by frequency of yellow sand events even for the non-yellow sand cases where yellow-sand days are eliminated in our analysis. However, in seasonal variation, summer season predominate lower $PM_{10}$ concentrations due to the frequent precipitation, and weekly and diurnal variations are both found to be reflecting the emission rate from traffic amount. Correlation coefficients between $PM_{10}$ concentration and meterological variables for non-yellow sand days show overall negative correlation with visibility, wind speed, cloud amounts, and relative humidity. However for non-precipitation days, during non-yellow sand period positive correlation are found clearly with relative humidity, suggesting the importance of secondary aerosol formation in Busan that can be achieved by both homogeneous aerosol formation and heterogeneous transformations resulting from hygroscopic aerosol characteristics.

The characteristics of disinfection by-products (DBPs) formation at 28 water treatment plants in Korea were investigated. Investigated species of DBPs were trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acids (HAAs) and chloral hydrate (CH). The maximum concentration of THMs was $84.1{\mu}g/L$, minimum and the averages were $6.9{\mu}g/L$ and $27.8{\mu}g/L$, respectively; the maximum concentration of $HAA_5$ was $90.8{\mu}g/L$, minimum and the averages were $3.8{\mu}g/L$ and $26.7{\mu}g/L$, respectively; while the maximum concentration of CH was $29.5{\mu}g/L$, minimum and the averages were $0.5{\mu}g/L$ and $7.4{\mu}g/L$, respectively. On the other hand, DBPs levels during summer months, when the water temperature was near $25^{\circ}C$, were nearly twice as great as DBPs levels during the winter season. The ratio of $THMs/HAA_5$ was 1.07, and $HAA_5$ and THMs were the dominant species of DBPS in the Kum-Sumjin river and Nakdong river, respectivley.

This paper aims to clarify the transformation and housing spatial form of the Port Settlement of Rivershore in Sangbu-village, Samrangjin. The form of site are many fixed forms, has the narrow width of a site and the length is long. Although built as a shop house those days, there is much what changed to the residence now. If the space composition of a residence is seen, it is one building and what goes in and out through the door is common. When a focus is applied and analyzed to the transformation of a residence, position change of formation of the door and an entrance is noticeable.

Visibility and Automatic Weather System(AWS) data near Nakdong river were analyzed to characterize fog formation during 2012-2013. The temperature was lower than its nearby city - Daegu, whereas the humidity was higher than the city. 157 fog events were observed in total during the 2 year period. About 65% of the events occurred in fall (September, October, and November) followed by winter, summer, and spring. 94 early morning fog events of longer than 30 minutes occurred when south westerly wind speed was lower than 2 m/s. During these events, the water temperature was highest followed by soil surface and air temperatures due to the advection of cold and humid air from nearby hill. The observed fog events were categorized using a fog-type classification algorithm, which used surface cooling, wind speed threshold, rate of change of air temperature and dew point temperature. As a result, frontal fog observed 6 times, radiation 4, advection 13, and evaporation 66. The evaporation fog in the study area lasted longer than other reports. It is due to the interactions of cold air drainage flow and warm surface in addition to the evaporation from the water surface. In particular, more than 60% of the evaporation fog events were accompanied with cold air flows over the wet and warm surface. Therefore, it is needed for the identification of the inland fog mechanism to evaluate the impacts of nearby topography and land cover as well as water body.
The metamorphosed belt on cherty and andesitic rocks of the Gyeongnam province area has been well known as the most important copper matallogenetic province in Korea and locally has been investigated by several geologists. This report is summarized about geology, occurrence of ore deposits, the study of the present status of mine developments and exploitations and the suggestions of future proposed of copper mine developments and harmoniously and reseonably planning of demands and supply of copper ore. For convenience of study the writer divided the survey region as 4 areas, according to the conditions of mine location. They are (1) Goseong copper area (2) Gunbuk-Haman copper area (3) Masan-Changwon copper area (4) Tongrae-Ilgwang copper area. The geology of the above 4 areas consits of Cretaceous Gyongsang System, which is divided into Silla series, Nakdong Series and Bulguksa Series. The former has intrusive and extrusive andesite and sedimentary formation, and the latter has dioritic and hornblende granite. Ore deposits which is mostly vein types are confined mostly in the andesite and cherty rocks of Silla and Nakdong Series. It is observed slight hydrothermal alteration, i. e. propylitization, chloritization, saussuritization and silicification. It seems that the ore was formed by hydrothermal solution and secondary enrichement. The ore minerals are mainly chalcopyrite and pyrite, with small amounts of malachite, azurite, chalcocite, cuprite, galena, and sphalerite, magnetite, tetrahedrite and etc.. The efficient plan of copper mine developments in surveyed region are as following; (a) Gyeongnam Copper districts are divided in 4 area as mentioned above. (b) Each area would be likely developed as group-working as one unit. For the sufficiently supplying a demand of electric copper, the importations of high grade copper ore in foreign country are invitable at present status of copper mine developments and exploitations.

Enhanced coagulation is best available technologies to treat NOM in water to produce clean drinking water. In this research, the comparison experiments between conventional coagulation (CC) and enhanced coagulation (EC) using 4 type coagulants i.e., ferric chloride, aluminium sulphate (alum), poly aluminium sulphate organic magnesium (PSOM) and poly aluminium chloride (PACl) were performed in terms of surrogate parameters such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP), haloacetic acid formation potential (HAAFP) and zeta potential variation in order to find out the most effective coagulant and conditions to fit Nakdong River water. When applied to EC process, the turbidity removal efficiency did not increased gradually compared to the CC process when adding coagulants. Furthermore, the removal efficiency of turbidity became decreased much more as coagulants were added increasingly whereas the removal efficiency of DOC, THMFP and HAAFP became increased by 13~18%, 9~18% and 9~18% respectively compared to the CC process. The characteristics of turbidity removal showed relatively high removal efficiency considering the pH variation in entire pH range when using $FeCl_3$ and PACl. Additionally, in case of alum and PSOM steady removal efficiency was shown between pH 5 and pH 8. In terms of DOC surrogate the coagulants including 4 type coagulants indicated high removal efficiency between pH 5 and pH 7. The removal efficiency of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in EC between less than 1 kDa and more than 10 kDa augmented by 11~21% and 16% respectively compared to the CC process. The removal efficiency of hydrophobic and hydrophilic organic matter proved to be increased by 27~38% and 11~15% respectively. In conclusion, the most effective coagulant relating to EC for Nakdong River water was proved to be $FeCl_3$ followed by PSOM, PAC and alum in order.

The purpose of this study was to determine the several factors for affecting chlorine disinfection by-products(DBPs) characteristics by reacting chlorine and organic matters in the aquatic phase. The results of this research yield the following specific conclusions: The concentration of trihalomethanes(THMs) was increased with increasing dissolved organic carbon(DOC), and a trend of THMs formation was parabolic with increasing organic matters. Formations of THMs increased straightly for the first 4 hours and the amounts of producted THMs for the 30 minutes were up to $25\sim43%$ in the entire experiment periods(168 hours). When keeping up the concentration of organic matters at constant and changing that of bromide, the quantity of formed THMs did not show distinguished difference with the reaction times. THMs were gradually increased at $4^{\circ}C$ even though a reaction phase was parabolic formation(PF) phase. However, THMs were increased rapidly in the instantaneous formation(IF) phase and then became slowdown in the PF phase between $20\sim35^{\circ}C$. THMs were gradually increased although entering in the PF phase at pH 5. However, THMswere increased rapidly in the IF phase and then became slowdown in the PF phase at pH 7 and pH 9, and these treads were much more clear at pH 9 than at pH 7.
Chilgok Geummubong tree fern fossil site is the type locality where tree fern stem fossils (Cyathocaulis naktongensis) were first discovered by Tateiwa in 1925. Recognized for its academic value, it was designated as a natural monument in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial period, and preserved and managed for over 90 years. However, at the time of discovery, the stratigraphic level of tree fern fossils could not be located because the fossils were fragments detached from the rock body, and thus the Geummubong area where the conglomerate/sandstone layers of the Nakdong Formation are distributed, has been designated as a cultural heritage area. Only in the 2000s, when tree fern fossils were directly recovered from the outcrops near the designated area, the sedimentary rock facies containing the fossils were interpreted, and the anatomical characteristics of the Mesozoic tree fern fossils could be described and identified as a species level. Such studies are, in these days, redefining classification criteria done by Japanese paleontologist, Ogura. That is, Korean researchers pointed out that the classification criteria of the tree fern fossils (Cyathocaulis) reported early from Chilgok were ambiguous, and the possibility that the two species were the same species was suggested. In addition, it is necessary to reorganize designated areas as a way to resolve social conflicts and civil complaints caused by various regulations that have continued for a long time.
