As a basic study on recovery of valuable metals such as vanadium and nickel from metal oxide obtained from waste orimulsion ash, we conducted selectively leaching of vanadium and nickel using $Na_2CO_3$ leaching and ammoniacal leaching, respectively. The 97% of vanadium was selectively leached at an optimum experimental condition, 50g/L $Na_2CO_3$, pulp density 50g/L, and 35% $H_2O_2$ 50ml/L, $25^{\circ}C$... for 1 hr, whereas no nickel was leached. In ammoniacal leaching study, 95% of nickel was selectively leached at the optimal experimental condition, $NH_4OH\;2M,\;(NH_4){_2}SO_4$ 1.5M, pulp density 50g/L, 25, for 4 hr along with 3% of vanadium.
Leaching of $LiCoO_2$ as a cathodic active materials for recovering Li and Co from spent lithium ion battery was investigated in terms of reaction variables. At the optimum condition determined in the previous work, Li and Co in a $H_2SO_4$ and $HNO_3$ solution were dissolved 70~80% and 40%, respectively. Li and Co were leached over 95% with the addition of a reductant such as $Na_2S_2O_3$ or $H_2O_2$. This behavior is probably due to the reduction of $Co^{3+}$ to $Co^{2+}$. Leaching of $LiCoCo_2$ powder obtained by calcination of an electrode materials from spent batteries was also carried out. Leaching efficiency of Li and Co were over 99% at the optimum condition with $H_2O_2$ addition of 1.7 vol.%. It seems to be due to the activation of $LiCoO_2$ by repeated charging and discharging or an imperfect crystal structure by deintercalation of Li.
In the leaching of $LiCoO_2$with a strong acid such as sulfuric and nitric acid, an additional step was needed to recover cobalt and lithium separately from spent lithium ion batteries (LIBs). The leaching of $LiCoO_2$in an oxalic acid solution was investigated to recover cobalt selectively using a low solubility of cobalt oxalate at low pH. Leaching efficiency of 95% of lithium and less than 1% of cobalt were obtained when pure $LiCoO_2$powder was leached in 3M oxalic acid at $80^{\circ}C$ and 50 g/L pulpdensity. Under the above leaching conditions, complete dissolution of lithium was accomplished with mere 0.25% of cobalt in the solution when the cathodic active material collected from spent LIBs was employed. The lithium in the leaching solution can be recovered as a form of carbonate or hydroxide depending on the addition of $Na_2$$CO_3$or LiOH.

The present paper investigates the leaching property of coal fly ash (FA) using distilled water as solvent and its performance of mineral carbonation. The highest leaching efficiency is obtained at 100 min after leaching begins and the overall leaching efficiencies of Ca and Na via five consecutive leachings were calculated to be 25.37% and 7.40%, respectively. In addition, because $Ca(OH)_2$ produced during the leaching reacts with $SiO_2$ which is the major component of FA, the Pozzolanic reaction may occur and thus reduces leaching efficiency. Total carbonation capacity of FA by absorbing $CO_2$ into FA leachates is 6.08 mg $CO_2/g$ FA and the contribution of alkali substances such as Ca, Na, Mg and K to this value is calculated to be 5.19 mg $CO_2/g$ FA. Carbonation efficiencies of Ca and Na based on leachates are 85.62% and 77.70%, respectively. On the other hand, the ratios of Ca and Na in raw FA to participate in carbonation are calculated to be 9.04% and 5.26%, respectively.
In order to utilize incineration fly ash of industrial wastes as resources, we present the recovery and separation of metals included in the fly ash by leaching with aqueous solution A great quantity of Cu, Pb, and Zn as well as a small amount oftoxic heavy metals are contained in the leach liquor of the fly ash, and the concentration of the ingredients of the fly ash depends on the industrial wastes which are fed into incinerators. In this paper, sequential Ieachiog operations are conducted using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ and NaOH as Icachants. Water soluble copper salt was leached by $H_2O$, Zn and Pb were separated by the NaOH leach liquor, and water insoluble copper was selectively leached as chelate ion with the $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ leach liquor of the third Ieaehant. Results show that the reduction percent of the fly ash in the leaching steps using $H_2O$, $H_2SO_4$, and $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ is 77%, and the other leaching procedures lose the weight of fly ash by above 60%.

This study investigated the water leaching behavior of vanadium in Na2CO3-roasted vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite (VTM) concentrate. The magnetic concentrate and Na2CO3, mixed in a mass ratio of 4:1, were roasted at 1050 ℃, kept for 3 h, and ground to a size of D50 = 48.79 ㎛ using a rod mill. The effects of leaching temperature and pulp density on water leaching were then investigated. The results show that the vanadium leaching efficiency decreased to 90.4%, 88.2%, and 83.8% as the temperature increased to 25, 55, and 85 ℃, respectively, whereas it remained almost constant 90.4%, 87.0%, and 87.0% as the pulp density increased to 10, 50, and 100 w/v%, respectively. Based on the preliminary leaching results, multi-stage leaching was conducted with the experimental conditions of 25 ℃, 100 w/v%, 300 rpm, and 1 h. The vanadium concentration in the final leaching solution was determined as 16.20 g/L after four stages of leaching. Thus, a high-concentration sodium vanadate solution was prepared by multi-stage leaching.

Water leaching of tungsten(W) and vanadium(V) was researched from their oxides through mechanochemical (MC) reaction with alkali compounds. Intensive grinding for the mixture of tungsten/vanadium oxide and alkali compounds (NaOH, $Na2CO_3$) was carried out with change of their mixing ratios and grinding duration. Water soluble compounds, $Na_2WO_4$ and $NaVO_3$, were synthesized through MC reaction and their solubilities increased in proportion to the mixing ratio of sodium compound and grinding times. Whereas vanadium leachability was less affected by the mixting ratio and grinding times. The leachabilities of 99.0% were accomplished by a short period of MC treatment, W (30 min.) and V (5 min.). This process enable us to extract W and V from their oxides via a water leaching, and can be applied to the selective recovery of W and V from $DeNO_x$ spent catalysts.

The objective of this study is to optimize the leaching conditions of sequential leaching and extracting processes for selective Ni recovery from spent Ni-Mo-based catalyst. The selective Ni recovery process consists of two processes of leaching and extracting process. In this 2-step process, Ni component is dissolved from solid spent Ni-Mo-based catalyst into leaching agent in leaching process and sequentially extracted to Ni complex with an extracting agent in the extracting process. The solutions of nitric acid ($HNO_3$), ammonium carbonate ($(NH_4)_2CO_3$) and sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) were used as a leaching agent in leaching process and oxalic acid was used as an extracting agent in extracting process. $HNO_3$ solution is the most efficient leaching agent among the various leaching agent. Also, the optimized leaching conditions for the efficient and selective Ni recovery were the leaching temperature of $90^{\circ}C,\;HNO_3$ concentration of 6.25 vol% and elapsed time of 3 h. As a result, Nickel oxalate having the highest yield of 88.7% and purity of 100% was obtained after sequentially leaching and extracting processes under the optimized leaching conditions.

In the present study, the thermodynamic evaluation of the sulfate-roasting process was conducted to extract vanadium from the Korean vanadium titano-magnetite ore. The leaching efficiency of vanadium and other impurities was analyzed for varying roasting temperatures and addition of Na2SO4. In the case of sulfate roasting, the roasting temperature was 200 ℃ higher than that previously observed Na2CO3 roasting. However, the higher leaching efficiency of vanadium and lower leaching efficiency of other impurities, such as aluminum and silicon, were observed. The high selectivity for the extraction of vanadium in sulfate roasting would result from the reaction mechanism between SO2 gas and vanadium concentrate.
