  • This paper proposes a methodology for development of protocol models. The methodology attempts to employ two modeling environments in models development, NS2 and DEVSim++, which will interoperate during simulation. NS2 is a widely used network simulator in protocol research, which employs an informal modeling approach. Within the approach time and state information of protocol models are not explicitly described, thus being hard to validate model. On the other hand the DEVS formalism is a mathematical framework for modeling a discrete event system in a hierarchical, modular manner. In DEVS, model's time and state information is described explicitly, By using DEVS formalism, models can easily be validated and errors in the modeling stage can be reduced. However, the DEVS simulator, DEVSim++, supports a small amount of models library which are required to build simulation models of general communication network. Although NS2 employs an informal modeling approach and models validation is difficult, it supports abundant models library validated by experimental users. Thus, combination of DEVS models and NS2 models may be an effective solution for network modeling. Such combination requires interoperation between DEVSim++ simulator and NS2 simulator. This paper develops an environment for such interoperation. Correctness and effectiveness of the implemented interoperation environment have been validated by simulation of UDP and TCP models.

  • Recently, there has been a clear trend towards the application of ad hoc networking technology in civil aviation communication systems, giving birth to a new research field, namely, aeronautical ad hoc networks (AANETs). An AANET is a special type of ad hoc wireless network with a significantly larger scale and distinct characteristics of its mobile nodes. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop a simulator to facilitate the research in these networks. In this paper, we present a network simulator, Aero-Sim, for AANETs. Aero-Sim, which is based on the freely distributed NS-2 simulator, enables detailed packet-level simulations of protocols at the MAC, link, network, transport, and application layers by composing simulations with existing modules and protocols in NS-2. Moreover, Aero-Sim supports three-dimensional network deployment. Through several case studies using realistic China domestic air traffic, we show that the proposed simulator can be used to simulate AANETs and can reproduce the real world with high fidelity.

  • For the efficient business, the telecommunication providers should have an attention for the minimization of the basic setup cost to implement the network infrastructure. Furthermore, the provision of the quality of service (QoS) to the service users is crucial for the service providers and vendors. In this paper, we propose the new algorithm to provide the user's QoS under the various traffic in the broadband convergence network. Using the NS-2 network simulator, we evaluate the QoS for the proposed algorithm, and compare those with the results of the previous differentiated service network.

  • The rapid increase of Internet users, diversity of application services, high speed data transmission, and extension of application areas have resulted in exponential growth of Internet traffic. In order to satisfy the increasing demand of bandwidth, the MPλS protocol, which is based on MPLS for efficient integration of WDM and IP protocols, has been suggested by IETF. In this paper, we present an MPλS simulator which enables to simulate various MPλS function such as optical crossconnect (OXC), multi-wavelength links, routing and wavelength assignment(RWA), and MPλS signaling and control. The simulator is developed based on the ns-2, an widely used multi-protocol network simulator. The function of the simulator is validated by running many simulation based on various scenarios and performance measures such as throughput and blocking probability. The simulator could be widely utilized for validation of proposed protocols before developing real optical network systems.

  • In this paper, a simulator adapted in AMI network environment with NS-2 was designed and implemented. The limited AMI operation environment such as processing times of data, network protocol and system performance can be simulated to find out the optimal AMI formations. Consequently, it is simulated under conditions that are closely analogous to the actual networks and each device. In future, the result of simulation would be applied to AMI network, mitigated the waste of resources and much contributed towards the real optimal AMI deployments in utilities.

  • In recent years, studies on effective data services based on GMPLS are introduced so as to support excessive internet traffic. and filled operation can reduce transmission effectiveness. In this thesis we proposed merging algorithm with hierarchical structure and implementation procedure using ns -2 simulator. The structure composed of tunnel nodes and general nodes. Each node has threshold processing time. Result of that, the operation labels can be calculated. In order to evaluate the performance, we used ns-2 network simulator tool and used variable time parameters. The evaluated values can be used in surplus wavelength and be Possible to process additional traffic. Label merging will bring a decrease in the cost of channel sources for future network configuration.

  • Harvesting energy from the environment is essential for many applications to slow down the deterioration of energy of the devices in sensor networks and in general, the network itself. Energy from the environment is an inexhaustible supply which, if properly managed and harvested from the sources, can allow the system to last for a longer period - more than the expected lifetime at the time of deployment, or even last indefinitely. The goal of this study is to develop a simple algorithm for ns-2 to simulate energy harvesting in wireless sensor network simulations. The algorithm is implemented in the energy module of the simulator. Energy harvesting algorithms have not yet been developed for ns-2. This study will greatly contribute to the existing knowledge of simulating wireless sensor networks with energy harvesting capabilities in ns-2. This paper will also serve as a basis for future research papers that make use of energy harvesting.

  • VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network) is a mobile Ad-hoc Network which deals with the moving vehicles. VANET supports Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) which is related to different modes of transport and traffic management techniques. VANETs enabled users to be informed and make them safer. VANET uses IEEE 802.11p standard wireless access protocol for communication. An important and necessary issue of VANET is to design routing protocols. In a network, communication takes place by the use of the routing protocols. There are mainly two types of communications used such as Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) in VANET. Vehicles can send and receive messages among them and also to and from infrastructure used. In this paper, AODV, DSR and DSDV are compared by analysing the results of simulation on various metrics such as average throughput, instant throughput, packet delivery ratio and residual energy. Findings indicates utilization of AODV and DSR is more applicable for these metrics as compared to DSDV. A network simulator (NS2) is used for simulation.
