  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze how strategically the bilaterally monopolistic firms, only-one-seller and only-one-buyer, behave in a situation in which each firm has uncertain information on its opponent firm's cost. Even though the two firms know that seeking integrated profit leads to the optimized profit for both firms, each firm has an incentive to opportunistically behave to increase its share of the integrated profit. These opportunistic behaviors of the firms are analyzed through a game theoretic approach especially finding Nash equilibrium mixed strategies for the strategic profiles such as true-report or not and monitoring or not. The comparative statics to the Nash equilibrium mixed strategies shows that as the profit share increases the probability of monitoring an opponent firm is decreased while the probability increases as the size of the overstated production cost increases. This study also shows that high penalty and low monitoring cost lead to high probability to tell the truth of the production cost.

  • This paper deals with the problem of steering a group of mobile robots along a reference path while maintaining a desired geometric formation. To solve this problem, the overall formation is decomposed into numerous geometric patterns composed of pairs of robots, and the state of the geometric patterns is defined. A control algorithm for the problem is proposed based on the Nash equilibrium strategies incorporating receding horizon control (RHC), also known as model predictive control (MPC). Each robot calculates a control input over a finite prediction horizon and transmits this control input to its neighbor. Considering the motion of the other robots in the prediction horizon, each robot calculates the optimal control strategy to achieve its goals: tracking a reference path and maintaining a desired formation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated using numerical simulations.

  • The liver lies at the intersection of multiple metabolic pathways and consequently plays a central role in lipid metabolism. Pathological disturbances in hepatic lipid metabolism are characteristic of chronic metabolic diseases, such as obesity-mediated insulin resistance, which can result in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Tissue damage induced in NAFLD activates and recruits liver-resident and non-resident immune cells, resulting in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Importantly, NASH is associated with an increased risk of significant clinical sequelae such as cirrhosis, cardiovascular diseases, and malignancies. In this review, we describe the immunopathogenesis of NASH by defining the known functions of immune cells in the progression and resolution of disease.

  • Background: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is one of the chronic inflammatory liver diseases and a leading cause of advanced liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The main purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of GBCK25 fermented by Saccharomyces servazzii GB-07 and pectinase, on NASH severity in mice. Methods: Six-wk-old male mice were fed either a normal diet (ND) or a Western diet (WD) for 12 wks to induce NASH. Each group was orally administered with vehicle or GBCK25 once daily at a dose of 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg, or 400 mg/kg during that time. The effects of GBCK25 on cellular damage and inflammation were determined by in vitro experiments. Results: Histopathologic analysis and hepatic/serum biochemical levels revealed that WD-fed mice showed severe steatosis and liver injury compared to ND-fed mice. Such lesions were significantly decreased in the livers of WD-fed mice with GBCK25 administration. Consistently, mRNA expression levels of NASH-related inflammatory-, fibrogenic-, and lipid metabolism-related genes were decreased in the livers of WD-fed mice administered with GBCK25 compared to WD-fed mice. Western blot analysis revealed decreased protein levels of cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) with concomitantly reduced activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) in the livers of WD-fed mice administered with GBCK25. Also, decreased cellular damage and inflammation were observed in alpha mouse liver 12 (AML12) cells and RAW264.7 cells, respectively. Conclusion: Administration of GBCK25 ameliorates NASH severity through the modulation of CYP2E1 and its associated JNK-mediated cellular damage. GBCK25 could be a potentially effective prophylactic strategy to prevent metabolic diseases including NASH.

  • Bimatrix games are the two-person non-zero-sum non-cooperative games. These games were studied by Mills, Lemke, Howson, Millham, Winkels, and others. This paper is a systematic and synthetic survey relevant to bimatrix games. Among the many aspects of researches on bimatrix games, emphasis in this paper is placed on the relation of the equilibrium set to Nash subsets. Topics discussed are as follows: Properties of equilibrium point; The structure of equilibrium set; Relation of Nash subsets to equilibrium set; Algorithm for finding the equilibrium points; Concepts of solutions on bimatrix games.

  • Pure-strategy Nash Equilibrium (NE) is one of the most important concepts in game theory. Tae-Hwan Yoon and O-Hun Kwon gave a "sufficient condition" for the existence of pure-strategy NEs in matrix games [5]. They also claimed that the condition was necessary for the existence of pure-strategy NEs in undominated matrix games. In this short note, we show that these claims are not true by giving two examples.

  • This paper presents a schematic process based on the method of eliminating dominated strategies to obtain the optimal bidding strategy Pursuing the Nash equilibrium Point. The Proposed approach is demonstrated for a bidding game in a generation competitive market with 2-dimensional bidding strategy vectors constituting a price-quantity strategy curve.

  • We consider the problem of optimizing the performance of a system with resources shared by non-cooperative users. The worst-cast ratio between the cost of a Nash equilibrium and the optimal cost, called Price of Anarchy, is investigated. It measures the performance degradation due to the users' selfish behavior. As the objective function of the optimization problem, we are concerned in a load balancing measure, which is different from that used in the previous works. Also we consider the Stackelberg scheduling which can assign a fraction of the users to resources while the remaining users are free to act in a selfish manner.

  • In this paper, we provide a Nash solution to predictive control problem for nonminimum phase singular nonlinear systems. Until now, there is no result on predictive control problem for this class of nonlinear systems. Chen's recent work considered predictive control problem for a class of nonlinear systems with ill-defined relative degree. Since his work is not a result considered in the feedback linearization framework, there is no a result on singular probem in his paper. In contrast to the existing predictive control result, our work considers two main obstacles (singularity and nonminimum phase) in the feedback linearization framework. For a generally formu...

  • Conflict resolution methodology is discussed with fuzzified Pareto frontier. Four solution concepts namely the Nash solution the generalized nash solution the kalai-Smorodinsky concept and a solution method based on a special bargaining process are examined. The solutions are also fuzzy, the corresponding payoff values are fyzzy numbers the membership functions of which are determined. Three particular cases are considered in the paper. Linear quadratic, and general nonlinear pareto frontiers with known shape are examined.
