Purpose: To evaluate the legitimacy of a diagnosis of ASC-H in 5 cases which were followed up monthly for over 2 years with both cytology and HPV testing. Methods: Some 5 cases out of a total of 25.0 self-sampled Pap test patients diagnosed as ASC-H provided 119 specimens over 2 years, with HPV-DNA testing perormed using a E6 primer. Results: Cases 1, 2 and 3 showed SIL after the ASC-H diagnosis, while cases 4 and 5 showed and maintained NILM. Cases 1, 2 and 3 were further characterized by small atypical compressed binucleated cells, in which HPV was detected by in situ PCR. Case 4 showed a high N/C ratio in cells in sheets with a mild increase in chromatin. Case 5 demonstrated a high N/C ratio in small cells with no increase in chromatin. Conclusion: The finding of a compressed binucleated cells can define the difference between degenerated endocervical columnar cells and small atypical cells suggestive of HSIL. When small compressed binucleated squamous cells are detected, there may be a chance of continuing HPV infection and undetected SIL.
In this paper, we investigate to determine quality characteristics, fatty acid composition and cytotoxic effect of extracts and fractions from whole Lycopus lucidus Turcz. roots. Additionally, we evaluated cytotoxic activity against the growth of human fibrosarcoma cells (HT-1080) and human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS), human colon cancer cell (HT-29) lines using a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Acetone+methylene chloride (A+M) and methanol (MeOH) extracts from L. lucidus Turcz. were obtained through solvent extraction. Then we further fractionated both extracts with n-hexane, 85% aq. MeOH, n-butanol (n-BuOH) and water. In fatty acid composition, L. lucidus Turcz. contained 33.2% of 18:1n-9 and 1.81% of 18:3n-3, respectively. The incorporation of treatment with A+M and MeOH extracts and n-hexane, 85% aq. MeOH, n-butanol (n-BuOH) and water fractions dose-dependently increased cytotoxicity against the growth of HT-1080 and AGS, HT-29 cancer cells (p<0.05). The A+M extract had a higher inhibitory effect on the growth of all cancer cells in comparison to MeOH extract. Among the fractions, the 85% aq. MeOH and n-hexane fractions showed a higher inhibitory effect after proliferating the three cancer cells. These results suggest that the 85% aq. MeOH and n-hexane fractions have a potential to inhibit the growth of human cancer cell lines.

Current research trends of solar cells has focused on the high conversion efficiency and low-cost production technology. Passivation technology that can be easily adapted to mass production. Therefore, this study conducted experiments with aim of the following two methods for the fabrication of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells. In the first task, an attempt is formation of local Al-BSF to a number of locally doped dots to increase the conversion efficiency of solar cells to reduce the loss of $V_{oc}$ overcome. The second major task, rear surface apply in $Al_2O_3/SiN_x$ stack layer, $Al_2O_3$ prominent negative fixed charge characteristics. As the result of task, Local Al-BSF and $Al_2O_3/SiN_x$ stack layer applied to the p-type single crystalline silicon solar cells, the average $V_{oc}$ of 644mV, $I_{sc}$ of 918mV and conversion efficiency of 18.70% were obtained.
Transparent CdS films with low electrical restivity on glass substrates were prepared by coating a CdS slurry which contained 10 wt.% $CdCl_2$, and sintering in a nitrogen atmosphere at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. All-polycrystalline CdS/CdTe solar cells were fabricated by coating CdTe slurries, which contained 1.0 or 4.5 wt.% $CdCl_2$, on the sintered CdS films and sintering at $700^{\circ}C$ for various periods of sintering. The spectral responses of the sintered CdS/CdTe solar cells were measured and compared with theoretically calculated quantum efficiency. The spectral responses of the sintered CdS/CdTe solar cells in the short-wavelength region decreases with-increasing sintering time. The poor response in this region is attributed to the existence of the Cd-S-Te solid solution in the compositional junction. The decrease in the maximum response in the long-wavelength region as the sintering exceeds certain time appears to be caused by the increase in the depth of the buried homo junction and by the increase in the series resistance. The $CdCl_2$ in the CdTe layer during sintering enchances the interdiffusion of S, Te or donor impurities across the metallurgical Junction causing the formation of deeper n-p junction in the CdTe layer.

In this work, we have used different techniques for the surface passivation: conventional thermal oxidation (CTO), rapid thermal oxidation (RTO), and plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). The surface passivation qualities of eight different single and combined double layer have been investigated both on the phosphorus non-diffused p-type FZ silicon and on phosphorus diffused emitter of 100 ${\Omega}/Sq$ and 40 ${\Omega}/Sq$. In the single layer, silicon dioxide $(SiO_2)$ passivates good on the emitter while silicon nitride (SiN) passivates better than on the non-diffused surface. In the double layers, CTO/SiN1 passivates very well both on non-diffused surface on the emitter. However, RTO/SiN1 and RTO/SiN2 stacks are more suitable for surface passivation in solar cells caused by a relatively good passivation qualities and the low optical reflection. Applying these stacks in solar cells we achieved 18.5 % and 18.8 % on 0.5 ${\Omega}$ cm FZ-Si with planar and textured front surface, respectively. The excellent open circuit voltage $(V_{oc})$ of 675.6 mV is obtained the planar cell with RTO/SiN stack.
Naegleria fowleri, a pathogenic free-living amoeba, leads to a fatal infection known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) in human and animals. PAM is an acute, fulminant, necrotizing, and hemorrhagic disease that leads to death in approximately seven days. In this study, we investigate the cytotoxicity of target cells and the secreted molecules of N. fowleri under the non-contact condition. The target cell (U87MG cell) treated with N. fowleri lysates showed no morphological changes and no cytotoxicity. By contrast, the U87MG cells co-cultured with N. fowleri trophozoites under the non-contact condition induced morphological changes and reduction in number. When U87MG cells were co-cultured with N. fowleri trophozoites under the non-contact condition for 30 min, 2 hr, and 4 hr, the levels of cytotoxicity of target cells were 32.3, 35.5, and 37.8%, respectively. Particularly, when the ratio of amoeba to target cells is 10 to 1, the level of cytotoxicity of target cells was 49.7% at 30 min. To show the proteins secreted from N. fowleri under the non-contact condition, we carried out 2D electrophoresis and observed 6 major proteins. Finally, these results suggest that the molecules released from N. fowleri under the non-contact condition induce the cell death and this process is an important step in pathogenesis of N. fowleri.
Background: It is reported that the percentage of smudge cells in the blood smear could be a prognostic indicator in chronic lymphocytic leukemia. However, the clinical significance of smudge cells in other hematological malignancies, solid tumors or non-malignant diseases is less clear. Hence, this study was conducted to survey the clinical significance of smudge cells in hematological cancers and other disorders. Materials and Methods: From January to November, 2015, the clinical data of patients who received blood examination with differential counts for clinical purpose and were found to have smudge cells in the peripheral blood film in Far Eastern Memorial Hospital were selected. The percentage of smudge cells and patient outcomes were evaluated for further univariate and survival analyses. Results: A total of 102 patients with smudge cells in their blood smears were included. Smudge cells were frequently presented in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA; n=30), infections (n=23), hematological cancers (n=23) and solid cancers (n=10). There was no relationship between the percentage of smudge cells and the patient mortality in all diseases (OR: 1.08, 95% CI: 0.47-2.48, P=1.000) as well as the OHCA group (OR: 1.91, 95% CI: 0.38-9.60, P=0.694). It was observed that in patients with all cancers with the percentage of smudge cells less than 50% had a lower mortality rate in comparison with those who had the percentage of smudge cells of 50% or more (OR: 22.29, 95% CI: 2.38-208.80, P<0.001). Additionally, it was seemingly that patients with smudge cells of 50% or more had a lower survival rate than those with smudge cells less than 50% in all cancers with follow-up at 2-month intervals, but without statistical significance (P=0.064). Conclusions: Our survey indicated that in all cancers, those who had higher percentage of smudge cells were prone to have poor outcomes when compared with the subjects with lower percentage of smudge cells. This finding was quite different from the results of previous studies in which the race-ethnicity of most study populations was non-Asian; hence, further investigations are required. Besides, there was no apparent association of the percentage of smudge cells with patient outcomes in all diseases, including OHCA.

Recently, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) began to be utilized as a vehicle for ex vivo gene therapy based on their plasticity. Effective and safe transfection of therapeutic genes is a critical step for genetic modification of MSCs. Therefore, optimization of in vitro gene delivery into MSCs is essential to provide genetically modified stem cells. In this study, various cationic liposomes, O,O'-dimyristyl-N-lysyl aspartate (DMKD), DMKD/cholesterol, O,O'-dimyristyl-N-lysyl glutamate (DMKE), DMKE/cholesterol, and N-[1-(2,3-dioleoyloxy)]-N,N,N-trimethylammonium propane methyl sulfate (DOTAP)/cholesterol, were mixed with plasmid DNA encoding luciferase (pAAV-CMV-Luc) at varied ratios, and then used for transfection to MSCs under varied conditions. The MSCs were also transfected by electroporation under varied conditions, such as voltage, pulse length, and pulse interval. According to the experimental results, electroporation-mediated transfection was more efficient than cationic liposome-mediated transfection. The best MSC transfection was induced by electroporation 3 times pulses for 2 ms at 200 V with 10 seconds of a pulse interval.
The effects of tumor necrosis factor alpha $(TNF-{\alpha})$ on growth and tubular formation of bovine aortic endothelial cells were examined using an in vitro angiogenesis model system. The growth of endothelial cells was enhanced in a dose-dependent manner when the cells were cultured with $TNF-{\alpha}$ for 3 days, but $TNF-{\alpha}$, at the concentration of 1 nM or higher, produced a growth inhibition of endothelial cells when the cells were cultured for 8 days. The endothelial cells incubated with $TNF-{\alpha}$ for 48-h exhibited a typical morphologic change. Then, they showed a fibroblastoid organization of overlapping, elongated, and spindle-shaped cells. $TNF-{\alpha}$, at the concentration of O. 1 nM or higher, inhibited the tubular formation of vascular endothelial cells in an in vitro anglogenesis model using a 3-dimensional culture system.
Nitrate removal rate in three wetland cells was examined. The acreage of each cell was 150 $m^2$. They were a part of a stream water treatment demonstration system which was composed of two ponds and six wetland cells. Earth works far the pond-wetland system were finished from April 2000 to May 2000 and reeds were planted in the three cells in May 2001. Waters of Sinyang Stream flowing into Kohung Esturiane Lake located southern coastal area of Korean Peninsula were pumped into a primary pont Effluents from a secondary pond were funneled into the three cells. Volumes and water quality of inflow and outflow were analyzed from July 2001 through December 2001. Inflow and outflow averaged 20 $m^3/d$ and 19.3 $m^3/d$, respectively. Hydraulic retention time was 1.5 days. Average influent and effluent nitrate concentration was 2.30 mg/L, 1.75 mg/L, respectively. Nitrate removal rate in the three cells averaged 80.9 $mg/m^2/day$. Seasonal changes of nitrate retention rates were closely related to those of wetland temperatures. Full growth of reeds within a few years can develope litter-soil substrates beneficial to the denitrification of nitrate, which may lead to increases of the nitrate retention rates.
