The aim of this study was to assess the association of metabolic syndrome and Vitamin D in Korean adults. The study subjects were Korean menopausal woman (n=4,340) who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010~2012. After adjusting for factors such as age, body mass index, total cholesterol, smoking, and regular exercise, the mean 25(OH)D levels ($M{\pm}SE$) decreased with increasing metabolic syndrome score (MSS) (MSS 0, $18.18{\pm}0.29ng/Ml$; MSS 1, $18.09{\pm}0.21ng/mL$; MSS 2, $18.07{\pm}0.19ng/mL$; MSS 3, $18.04{\pm}0.21ng/mL$; MSS ${\geq}4$, $17.27{\pm}0.23ng/mL$), and the mean 25(OH)D level ($M{\pm}SE$) for metabolic syndrome ($17.66{\pm}0.16ng/mL$) decreased in comparison to non-metabolic syndrome ($18.11{\pm}0.14ng/mL$). In conclusion, our results suggest that an increase in metabolic syndrome score or metabolic syndrome are inversely associated with the vitamin D levels.

A thermophilic bacterium producing D-stereospecific dipeptidase was isolated from Korean soil samples. The enzyme hydrolyzed the peptide bond between D-alanyl-D-alanine (D-Ala-D-Ala). The isolated bacterial strain was rod shaped, gram-positive, motile, and formed an endospore. Morphological and physiological characteristics suggested this microorganism a thermophilic Bacillus species, and was named as Bacillus sp. BCS-l. The production of D-stereospecific dipeptidase was growth-associated and optimal at $55^{\circ}C$. The enzyme was applied for the synthesis of D-amino acid-containing peptide, N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-aspartyl-D-alanine benzyl ester (Z-L-Asp-D-AlaOBzl), as a model reaction. A thermodynamically controlled synthesis of Z-L-Asp-D-AlaOBzl was achieved in an organic solvent.

M$_{n}$(F) denotes the set of all n*n matrices over F={0, 1}. For a, b.mem.F, define a+b=max{a, b} and ab=min{a, b}. Under these operations a+b and ab, M$_{n}$(F) forms a multiplicative semigroup (see [1], [4]) and we call it the semigroup of the n*n boolean matrices over F={0, 1}. Since the semigroup M$_{n}$(F) is the matrix representation of the semigroup B$_{n}$ of the binary relations on the set X with n elements, we may identify M$_{n}$(F) with B$_{n}$ for finding all D-classes.l D-classes.

Chlorella kessleri cultivated in artificial wastewater using diurnal illumination of 12h light/12h dark (L/D) cycles. The inoculum density was 10(sup)5 cells/mL and the irradiance in light cycle was 45$\mu$mol㎡s(sup)-1 at the culture surface. As a control culture, another set of flasks was cultivated under continuous illumination. Regardless of the illumination scheme, the total organic carbon (TOC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) was reduced below 20% of the initial concentration within a day. However, cell concentration under the L/D lighting scheme was lower tan that under the continuous illuminating scheme. Thus the specific removal rate of organic carbon under L/D cycles was higher than that under continuous illumination. This result suggested that C. kessleri grew chemoorganotrophically in the dark periods. After 3 days, nitrate was reduced to 136.5 and 154.1mg NO$_3$-N/L from 168.1mg NO$_3$-N/L under continuous illumination and under diurnal cycles, respectively. These results indicate nitrate removal efficiency under continuous light was better than that under diurnal cycles. High-density algal cultures using optimized photobioreactors with diurnal cycles will save energy and improve organic carbon sources removal.

Purpose : The objective of this study is to determine the change of C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in the peripheral blood of preterm infants at birth according to the stage of intrauterine inflammation. Methods : A total of 187 infants (<32 weeks of gestation) were divided into a "no histologic chorioamnionitis" [HCAM (-), n=85] group and a "histologic chorioamnionitis" [HCAM (+), n=102] group according to placental pathologic findings. Furthermore, the HCAM (+) group was subdivided into a "funisitis" [F (+), n=49] group and a "no funisitis" [F (-), n=53] group and also into a "funisitis/amnionitis" [FA (+), n=58] group and an "isolated chorio-deciduitis" [FA (-), n=44] group. High-sensitivity CRP levels in the peripheral blood at birth were measured.Results : Peripheral blood CRP levels were significantly higher in the HCAM (+), F (+), F (-), and FA (+) groups than in the HCAM (-) group, but were not significantly different between the FA (-) and HCAM (-) groups. In addition, peripheral blood CRP levels were significantly higher in the F (+) and FA (+) groups than in the F (-) and FA (-) groups, respectively. For identification of amnionitis or funisitis, a cut-off value of 0.02 mg/dL was chosen. Clinical chorioamnionitis, proven early onset sepsis, histologic chorioamnionitis, and funisitis had higher incidences in infants with peripheral blood CRP levels higher than 0.02 mg/dL. Conclusion : The present study shows that peripheral blood CRP levels at birth in preterm infants born before 32 weeks' gestation is significantly increased in amnionitis or funisitis and might reflect the progress of histologic chorioamnionitis.

The methanol extract from the aerial parts of Aceriphyllum rossii was fractionated into ethyl acetate, n-BuOH and $H_2O$ layers through solvent fractionation. Repeated silica gel column chromatography of EtOAc and n-BuOH layers afforded five flavonol glycosides. They were identified as astragalin (1), kaempferol 3-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1${\rightarrow}$6)-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (2), rutin (3), kaempferol 3-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1${\rightarrow}$4)-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl 1${\rightarrow}$6)-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (4), and quercetin 3-O-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1${\rightarrow}$4)-${\alpha}$-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1${\rightarrow}$6)-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (5) on the basis of spectroscopic data. All of them showed an inhibition in farnesyl protein tranferase (FPTase) activity, and rutin (3) inhibited the growth of rat H-ras cell and the cell migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).

Ce travail est de rechercher la vie litteraire d'Eug?ne Ionesco ? l'?poque de la Roumanie(1921~1937). Ionesco fait partie d'une cat?gorie d'?crivains(Mircea Eliade, Emil Cioran, Tristan Tzara, Pana?t Istrati, etc) qui sont n?s en Roumanie et ont commenc? leur carri?re dans leur pays d'origine pour la continuer et l'achever en France. Eugen Ionescu devient Eug?ne Ionesco. Ce dernier repr?sente d?j? dans les ann?es 30 une personnalit? hors du commun. C'est un homme qui a deux patries, deux racines : une roumaine, une autre fran?aise. Sa vie est a ?t? marqu?e par ses publications des l'adolescence. Ils font l'objet de ce livre-portrait d'Eugen Ionescu, po?te et critique, ?crivain de langue roumaine. L'?tude de la jeunesse roumaine d'Ionesco nous m?ne sur un terrain p?rilleux, celui de la biographie, plus pr?cis?ment des ann?es d'adolescence, de jeunesse et d'apprentissage d'un ?crivain qui a masqu? cette p?riode de sa vie. Nous avons pr?fer? tracer une biographie intellectuelle plutot qu'?num?rer des d?tails anecdotiques. La projection d'Ionesco dans son oeuvre est le r?cit de ses propres aventures intellectuelles. Industrial wastewater with high ammonium concentration was treated in batch biological systems which was a modified Ludzack- Ettinger process. Up to 78% conversion of $NH_4\;^+-N$ to $NO_x\;^--N$ was achieved in batch culture condition. Under anoxic condition with methanol as the carbon source, the denitrifiers decreased $NO_x\;^--N$ concentration from 608 mg/L to 5.6 mg/L in 22 d. As well as anoxic denitrification of $NO_x\;^-$ to $N_2$, dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium also occurred under the condition as respiratory denitrification.
