Highly Donor-doped LaxBa1-xTiO3 Ceramics

  • Sol-gel processing of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics doped with La(0.01-1.00 at. $\%$) were prepared from metal barium, titanium n-butoxide and lanthanum iso-propoxide. Characterization of the sol-gel-derived powder using XRD, SEM is also reported. The obtained results showed that insulator to semiconductor transition for highly donor-doped barium titanate was closely related to the incorporation of donor into the grains and to the resultant grain size, which were significantly affected by the sinterability of $BaTiO_3$ powders and sintering conditions used.

  • Donor dopant로 WO3, Ta2O5 및 Nb2O5를 첨가한 Zr0.8Sn0.2TiO4 세라믹스의 유전상수 $\varepsilon$r 품 질계수 Q 및 공진주파수의 온도계수 rf에 대하여 연구하였다. 139$0^{\circ}C$에서 32시간 소결시 donor dopant 첨가량에 따른 ZST의 유전상수는 소결밀도의 변화 거동과 잘 일치하였다. 5.5 GHz에서 측정 한 ZST의 품질계수 Q는 ~0.5 mol% WO3 Ta2O5 및 Nb2O5 첨가에 의해 6800에서 8500 정도로 증가 하였다. ZST의 $\tau$f는 0.3 mol%까지의 WO3 첨가량 증가에 따라 0 ppm/$^{\circ}C$에서 -4.6 ppm/$^{\circ}C$까지 음 의 값으로 직선적으로 감소하였으며 0.4 mol% 범위의 Ta2O5 및 Nb2O5 첨가에 의해 -7 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ 까지 직선적으로 감소하였다.

New Donor Materials Based on Thiazole and Triphenylamine for Photovoltaic Devices

  • New photovoltaic donor materials, 4,4'-(2,2'-bithiazole-5,5'-diyl)bis(N,N-diphenylbenzenamine) (BDT) and 4-(2,2'-bithiazol-5-yl)-N,N-diphenylbenzenamine (BT), were synthesized. A solution processable triphenylamine-containing bithiazole (BDT and BT) was blended with a [6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$ butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) acceptor to study the performance of small-molecule-based bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photovoltaic devices. Optimum device performance was achieved after annealing, for device with a BDT/PCBM ratio of 1:4. The open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, and power conversion efficiency of the device with the aforementioned BDT/PCBM ratio were 0.51 V, 4.10 $mA\;cm^{-2}$, and 0.68%, respectively, under simulated AM 1.5 solar irradiation (100 $mW\;cm^{-2}$).

Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Zn(II)- and Mn(II)- Diphenyldicarboxylate Complexes with N-Donor Ligand

  • Two new polymeric complexes, [Zn(dpa)(pyz)0.5]n (1; dpa = diphenate and pyz = pyrazine) and [Mn3(bpdc)3(py)4]n (2; bpdc = biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylate and py = pyridine) were successfully isolated by the hydro- and solvo-thermal technique, respectively. The complexes were characterized by elemental and thermal analysis, vibrational IR spectroscopy, and by single crystal x-ray structure determination. For 2, magnetic property was also investigated. Complex 1 is a two-dimensional layer structure consisting of a paddle-wheel building unit of Zn-dpa chains bridged by pyrazine. While, complex 2 consists of linear trimeric Mn3 cluster as building unit to form 3D network. In the complexes, dpa2− (1) and bpdc2−(2) ligands show a typical bis-monodendate bridging and two kinds of bridging modes; a typical bridging and chelating/bridging mode, respectively.

EuIII-1-Naphthoate Complex with N-Donor Ligand as a New White Luminescent Single Molecular Material

  • Two novel antenna complexes of $Eu^{III}$ with 1-naphthoic acid (NA) as primary ligand and two aromatic N-donor ligands namely N-hexyl-N-(pyridin-2-yl) pyridin-2-amine (1) and 4-((dipyridin-2-ylamino)methyl)benzoic acid (2) have been synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The room-temperature (298 K) photoluminescence spectrum of $Eu^{III}$ complexes composed of typical line like emissions, assigned to transitions between the first excited state $^5D_0$ to the $^7F_J$ (J = 0-4), resulting in red emission along with the residual emission from the 1-naphthoic acid moiety in the blue region. The determined CIE color coordinate value for the complex 2 is (x = 0.36, y = 0.34), which is in white region.

A Novel Method of Dermis Graft for Better Outcome (미용적 향상을 위한 진피이식술)

  • The two major concerns in skin grafting are poor color match in the recipient site and the donor site morbidity. A new skin graft(dermis graft; deepithelialized split thickness skin graft), was used to minimize these problems. The important aspects of this method involve immediate return of epidermis to the donor site and restoration of the recipient site's epidermis by inducing epithelialization from adjacent skin. From April of 2001 to March of 2004, dermis graft and a conventional split thickness skin graft(STSG) were performed in 53 and 33 patients, respectively. The healing time, the scar condition, and the patients' satisfaction were compared. Regarding the recipient sites, the wounds of the dermis graft(n=53) and STSG(n=33) had reepithelialized after $15.5{\pm}1.9$ and $11.8{\pm}1.6$ days, respectively. The scarring were less severe on the dermis graft in terms of pigmentation, height, and vascularity(p<0.05). No significant difference in pliability was detected. The patients' satisfaction with the dermis graft was also better. Concerning the donor sites, the wounds healed within $7.5{\pm}0.8$ and $12.8{\pm}1.1$ days, respectively. In terms of scar quality and patients' satisfaction, the dermis graft(n=26) showed better results. The dermis graft is superior to conventional STSG both aesthetically and functionally in both the recipient and donor sites.

Synthesis and Properties of Polydentate Schiff Base Ligands having $N_nO_2$ (n=3~5) Donor Atoms and Bromine Substituent and their Transition Metal Complexes (여러자리 질소-산소계 시프염기 리간드와 전이금속착물의 합성 및 전기화학적 특성)

  • Polydentate Schiff base ligands 5-Br-BSDT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)diethylenetriamine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms, 5-Br-BSTT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)triethylenetetramine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms, 5-Br-BSTP(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)tetraethylenepentamine) having $N_3O_2$ atoms were synthesized. Stability constants of the complexes between these ligands and the metal ions such as Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) were measured in DMSO by a polarographic method. It was observed that all metal(II) ions employed in this study formed 1 : 1 complexes with Schiff base ligands. Stability constants for the ligands were in the order of Cu(II)>Ni(II)>Zn(II), and for complex formation were in the order of 5-Br-BSTP>5-Br-BSTT>5-Br-BSDT according to the increasing in the number of donor atoms. Both enthalpy and entropy changes are obtained in negative valves. Exothermicity for the complex formation indicated tight binding between the ligands and metal ions. The negative entropy change would be related to the fact that solvent molecules are strongly interacting with the metal complexes.

  • A novel organotin(IV) complex has been prepared from $Bu_2SnCl_2$ and the N, O and S donor ligand, 5-(p-dimethylaminobenzylidene) rodanine (HL). The ligand is deprotonated in the presence of a base and the complex with the general formula $SnBuCl_2L$ is formed. This complex was fully characterized by IR, $^1H$ NMR and $^{119}Sn$ NMR and elemental analysis. Spectroscopic data indicate the ligand is coordinated through the oxygen atom to the tin and the coordination number of four is supported by $^{119}Sn$ NMR data in solution.

Effect of Nitrogen Compounds and Organic Carbon Concentrations on $N_2O$ Emission during Denitrification (탈질에서 질소성분 및 유기탄소 농도가 $N_2O$ 배출에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of the compounds and concentrations of nitrogenous electron acceptor, the ratio of electron donor/electron acceptor (C/N), and the complexity of electron donor on the emission of $N_2O$ during wastewater denitrification were quantitatively investigated in this study. The higher ${NO_3}^-$ and ${NO_2}^-$ concentrations, the more $N_2O$ emission was observed. ${NO_2}^-$ has strong effect on $N_2O$ emission as it emitted morc $N_2O$ than ${NO_3}^-$, 50 mg/L of ${NO_2}^-$-N gave the highest conversion (9.3%) and yield (9.8%) of $N_2O$ while ${NO_3}^-$-N (50 mg/L) gave 5.6% conversion and 11.0% yield. Lower C/N ratio decreases nitrogen removal efficiency, but it increases the conversion of $N_2O$ because of the incomplete denitrification by the limited organic carbon. When real domestic wastewater is used as the electron donor of the denitrification, $N_2O$ emission is reduced to 1/10 of the emission when single carbon (acetate) is used. It is thought that multiple carbon source utilizes many denitrification pathways and it seems to be helpful for the reduction of $N_2O$ emission.

  • Properties of each layer in DSSC were investigated to improve solar cell characterstics. Also in this study, low costsolar simulator system is fabricated and used. Efficiency of DSSC is better in the case of thinner semiconductive layer, because thick semiconductive layer is acted as resistor. Sc-doped ZnO thin films showed better electrical property by proper donor doping effect. Among the dyes, DSSC containing N719 showed higher efficiency, because N719 have smaller electron affinity and shallow band gap.
