내소사 대웅보전 포벽화 제작기법 연구 (Study on Manufacturing Techniques of Bracket Mural Paintings of Daeungbojeon Hall in Naesosa Temple)

  • 내소사 대웅보전 포벽화에 대한 벽체 구조 및 재질특성 그리고 채색층에 대한 정밀분석을 통해 제작기법을 연구하였다. 벽체 골조는 외가지 구조이며, 벽체층과 마감층 그리고 채색층의 세 층위로 구성되어있다. 벽체를 구성하는 벽체층 및 마감층은 석영과 장석류 등 모래와 황토를 혼합하여 제작하였다. 벽체층은 중립사 이상 크기와 세립사 이하 크기가 약 0.8:9.2 비율이고, 내 외부 마감층은 각각 약 6:4 비율로 벽체층보다 중립사 이상의 모래 비율이 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 채색층 정밀분석 결과, 뇌록을 사용하여 최대 $456.15{\mu}m$로 비교적 두꺼운 바탕칠층을 마련하였으며 그 위로 녹염동광 및 백토 그리고 산화철 계통의 안료를 사용하여 채색하였다. 연구결과, 토벽체와 채색층 제작기법은 현재까지 연구된 조선시대 사찰벽화 제작양식 범주에 속하는 것으로 확인되었다. 그러나 마감층 모래 함량이 높고 중벽층과 짚여물이 확인되지 않는 점 등은 내소사 대웅보전 포벽화 벽체가 지닌 구조 및 재질특성으로서, 이와 같은 결과는 향후 벽화 보존상태 평가 또는 보존처리 방안 마련에 주요 정보가 될 수 있다.

  • Suhainmyuldo(수하인물도) is a kind of picture which express a person under the tree and is known to be transmitted from the Middle Asia. The origin of this kind of expression is assumed to be from Iykshini(=Iygsha), the fairy of tree, in India of from the 'Tree of Life' in W. Asia, and they had in fluenced on the craft art design of Chinese art. However, Chinese art had already developed the motif of this kind in its unique way. For example, Jookrimchilhundo(죽림칠현도: seven wise men in bamboo forest), during Six Dynasty. The tree of life(arbor vitae, lignum viate), the origin of the Painting of figure under a tree(수하인물도), was spreaded in several regions around the center of Mesopotamia early, and them transmitted to Sasan dynasty of Persia, even to Islam, Byzantine, Romanesque, ancient East Asia. The mural painting found in the 4th Tongu Ogoe tomb, which was created after the 5th Tongu Ogoe tomb, used Obangsaek more than the 5th tomb painting did. (The term Obansaek refers to the five Korean traditional colors consisted of yellow, blue, white, red and black) The mural painting on the 4th Ogoe tomb employed distinct technique to depict an object in a certain color by painting the surroundings with different primary colors, making the painting look more exotic and mysterious.

한국 흙벽화 채색층 고착제의 보존환경에 따른 안정성 연구 (A Study on Stability according to the Conservation Environment for Fixative of Korean Mural Painting Layers)

  • 흙벽화 보존처리에 있어 가장 중요한 부분은 채색층에 균열이 발생되어 결속력을 잃었을 때, 또는 안료의 분말화가 일어났을 때, 고착제를 주입하여 손실위험에 처해진 벽화를 보존하는 것이다. 그러나 흙벽화 채색층에 사용되는 고착제의 안정성에 관한 연구는 미흡한 실정이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 흙벽체 시료를 제작하여 총 4종의 합분, 주사, 석록, 황토안료를 채색하고 Paraloid $B-72^{(R)}$, Caparol-$binder^{(R)}$, 우피아교(牛皮阿膠), Hydoxypropyl $cellulose^{(R)}$ 총 4종의 고착제를 도포하여 보존처리 후 발생할 수 있는 환경변화 요인인 온도, 습도, 자외선을 인공적으로 부여하였다. 안료별로 도포된 고착제의 보존환경에 따른 물성변화는 색안정성, 접촉각, 광택도, 접착력, 표면관찰을 통해 다각적으로 관찰하였다. 그 결과, 자외선 및 고온다습한 환경은 합분을 제외한 고착제가 도포된 모든 채색층에서 명도와 채도의 변화가 일어나는 등 색안정성에 많은 영향을 미치며, 고착제의 노화가속에 영향을 주어 결국 분해시키는 요인으로 파악되었다. 그중 전통재료인 아교는 함께 실험한 합성수지들과 비교하여 볼 때, 채색층 표면에 대한 색안정성과 영향력(보존성) 유지, 친수성 면에서 양호한 결과를 나타내었다. 특히 접착력 부분에서는 모든 채색층에서 우수한 특성이 확인되었기에, 흙벽화 채색층 고착처리 시 안정성이 높다고 사료된다.

고구려 고분벽화에 나타난 놀이복식 (Play Costume from the Mural Paintings of Goguryeo)

  • The culture of the play of Korean ancient times is well described in the mural painting of Goguryeo. The example is people appearing in the play painting of performance, dance, hunting, and acrobatics out of 20 mural painting of genre. Their costume is broadly classified into performance, dance, hunting, and acrobatic costume and can be subdivided according to the types of costume. First, the head gear of play costume reflected the formality and social conditions of play. In the performance and hunting costume, all performers wore gwanmo(official hats), which seemed to make it a rule to wear gwanmo. Gwanmo was borrowed intactly from Goguryeo without any changes or decorations, which showed that the status symbolism of head gear was applied intactly to play costume. Second, the play costume of Goguryeo enhanced efficiency by blending daily costume with elements and decorations needed for play performance. Specifically the change of length was prominent: the short sleeves of jeogori(traditional blouse), the long sleeves of dance costume, and fastening below the knee or putting into the long shoes to shorten the length of baji(traditional pants). Finally, as it is well known that there was some differences in the expression modes of daily clothes in Goguryeo between Tonggu and Pyeongyang. Similarly, play costume tried to change costume according to the subject of play but maintained the locality and peculiarity of Goguryeo costume. Although performance costume showed many local differences, it also had similarity and peculiarity. In dance costume, long sleeves and patterns which frequently appeared in the Tonggu area reappeared in the Pyeongyang.

고려 대외교류국의 고분벽화에 나타난 주구(酒具) (Alcohol Beverage Utensils Represented on the Tomb Mural Paintings of Foreign Exchange Countries with Koryo Dynasty)

  • This study is on the alcohol beverage utensils represented on the Chinese tomb mural paintings of Song, Liao, Jin, and Yuan those countries had foreign exchange with Koryo Dynasty. These mural paintings are distributed in the areas such as Hebei, Henan, Inner mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Peijing. etc. The Alcohol beverage vessels were classified mainly into storage vessel, pouring vessel, drinking vessel and ladles according to the purpose. The storage vessels of Song, Liao and Jin were called Jiuping, Jingping, Jiuzun as well as Meiping. Pouring vessels are basically one set of Zhuzi, Wenwan and Jiuzhu, or Zhuhu and Zhuwan. On the mural paintings of Yuan Dynasty, Meiping as storage vessels disappear, and a variety of shapes of pouring vessels such as Mayu and Yuhuchunping appear. This trend indirectly indicates the new arrival of distilled liquor, which seems to have affected transition of the alcohol beverage utensils.

아프라시압 벽화에 나타난 복식연구 (A Study of Costumes Appearing in Afrasiab Mural Painting)

  • The four walls of mural paintings in Afrasiab, Samarkand, have discovered: the indian-concept east wall, the west with the paintings of envoys from a number of countries bringing in King's letters or gifts, the south describing traditional ceremony celebrating the new year, the north with a picture of a Chinese princess on board beside hunting scenes. Overall, Sogdians in Afrasiab mural paintings of 7th century had following costume codes: a very short haircut or the Turkic queue, a rather-narrow-sleeved caftan with round-neck, a belt and boots. The west wall showed various costume style of a set of envoys from countries. First, a Turkic envoy had 3-6 rows of long plaits, wearing a caftan with two lapels and a belt - interestingly, Sogdian and Turkic nobles didn't wear pochettes. Second, a Chaganiyan had a hairband on his short hair, and his colorful round-neck caftan is decorated with animal-patterned medallions and a golden belt. Third, a Chach wore a jewelled hairband, putting gaiters on his pants. Forth, a Chinese was in putou with a round-neck caftan, and with a belt and sword around his waist. Lastly, also appeared a Koguryo envoy in white putou with a double-bird-feathered crown on top, wearing a long-sleeved yellow v-neck top, a belt, narrow-cuffed pants and boots. Identical to the Sogdian statues excavated in various regions of China are the appearance of big eyes and nose -similar to the warrior stone in Korea- a hairband, and a pochette down from the waist line. During this period, white and red were considered as prevailing colors for clothing: red and yellow among Turks. The costumes of characters in Afrasiab mural paintings were preferably made with the animal-patterned, sophiscated samite Zandanachi of Sogdiana.

  • The results from the consideration of this are as follows. 1. Kokuryo has been the exchange foreign relationship with the Han dynasty era, from king DaiMuSin 25 years to Bojang 27 years. 2 King of Kokuryo, from The North-Wei-dynasty has been received ceremonial costumes, first-third class of China's official rank. After unification of China, Su, Dang dynasty's envoy and missionary and many commercial men and artist come from China to Kokuryo, therefore, influenced their costume habbits and behabiers from royal families costumes and common peoples costumes, without concern of that one's social position. 3. Kokuryo King's ceremonial costumes are not the same as the China. Kokuryo performed a religious service an emperor's ceremony. And the Kokuryo King's religious mind was the Budism and Daoism. So that mural painting just showing the symbolic of the king's costumes , Myunryukwanbok.

고구려 개마총 『여인행렬도』의 안료분석 (The Pigment Analysis of 『Procession of the Ladies』 Mural painting from Gaemachong, Koguryo)

  • 국립중앙박물관이 소장하고 있는 고구려 개마총 여인행렬 벽화편에 사용된 안료의 성분 분석을 수행하였다. 분석은 비파괴 성분분석기인 X-선 형광분석기(XRF)를 사용하여 안료의 성분 원소를 확인하였다. 분석결과 벽화의 채색안료 중 적색에는 진사/주(HgS)와 산화철이 사용되었으며 흑색에는 먹, 백색에는 연백이 사용되었다. 얼굴 부분은 진사/주와 연백을 혼합하여 채색하거나 경우에 따라 채색하지 않았을 가능성이 높았다.

토벽화 채색층 고착처리를 위한 도박풀 적용 연구 (A Study on the Application of Dobak-glue for Fixation Painting Layer of Earthen Mural)

  • 본 연구는 토벽화 채색층 고착제로서의 도박풀 적용 가능성을 파악하기 위하여, 내후성 실험에 따른 표면변화를 평가하였다. 내후성 실험에 대한 평가는 색차계(CR-400, MINOLTA)를 사용하였으며, 열화로 인한 변화가 특징적으로 나타난 주사 3% 조건은 반사투과장치(CARY-5000, AGILENT)를 사용하여 추가적인 평가를 실시하였다. 자외선 열화 실험 후, 대부분의 도박풀 도포 시료가 아교풀 도포 시료에 비해 색변화가 적었으며, 흡습 건조 열화시험 결과에서는 도박풀이 0.5%와 3% 조건에서 아교에 비해 색변화가 낮게 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 열화 실험 후 반사 흡수도 측정결과, 아교에 비해 도박풀의 열화 후 반사 흡수도 변화정도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 도박풀을 토벽화 고착제로 사용할 경우 열화에 따른 변색은 비교적 안정적일 것으로 판단된다.

Diagnosis and Evaluation of Conservation State of Mural Paintings in Payathonzu Temple on Bagan Heritage Site in Myanmar

  • A diagnostic investigation of the conservation state of damaged murals of the Payathonzu temple mainly indicated delamination, exfoliation, and contamination of the coloring layer; cracks and damage to the wall; and separation from gaps. In particular, vulnerabilities resulting from cracks in the wall and damage from gaps demand swift reinforcement measures. Ultrasonic testing uncovered damage caused by gaps between the base layer and plastered wall in several areas of the mural, vulnerable parts in the wall around the cracks, and considerable degradation of the physical properties where cracks and gaps were severe. Moisture measurements identified vast disparities in moisture depending on location even within a single area of the mural, and it was clear that these disparities were the result of environmental conditions such as humidity. Damage to the murals in monument 477 was the most severe, and a diagnostic of the physical properties uncovered severe physical damage to the upper part of the mural as well as to the corridor ceiling, thus presenting the need for conservation treatment utilizing scientific diagnosis as well as objective data.
