  • A long-term precipitation record is typically required for establishing the reliable water resources plan in the watershed. However, the observations in the hourly precipitation data are not always consistent and there are missing values within the time series. This study aims to develop a hourly rainfall simulator for extending rainfall data, based on the well-known Neyman-Scott Rectangular Pulse Model (NSRPM). Moreover, this study further suggests a multisite hourly rainfall simulator to better reproduce areal rainfalls for the watershed. The proposed model was validated with a network of five weather stations in the Uee-stream watershed in Seoul. The proposed model appeared a reasonable result in terms of reproducing most of the statistics (i.e. mean, variance and lag-1 autocovariance) of the rainfall time series at various aggregation levels and the spatial coherence over the weather stations.

  • The stochastic model has been developed for synthetic generation of hydrologic series that would be needed in the analysis, planning, design and operation of water resources system. In this study, after generating the yearly streamflows by multisite AR(1) model using the historical data in the Han River Basin, the monthly streamflows is generated by the disaggregation model. The model is verified of its applicability to domestic rivers, which is obtained through the statistical analysis and good ness of fit test using synthetic streamflows generated.

  • Hydrologic pattern under climate change has been paid attention to as one of the most important issues in hydrologic science group. Rainfall and runoff is a key element in the Earth's hydrological cycle, and associated with many different aspects such as water supply, flood prevention and river restoration. In this regard, a main objective of this study is to evaluate design flood using simulation techniques which can consider a full spectrum of uncertainty. Here we utilize a weather state based stochastic multivariate model as conditional probability model for simulating the rainfall field. A major premise of this study is that large scale climatic patterns are a major driver of such persistent year to year changes in rainfall probabilities. Uncertainty analysis in estimating design flood is inevitably needed to examine reliability for the estimated results. With regard to this point, this study applies a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo scheme to the NWS-PC rainfall-runoff model that has been widely used, and a case study is performed in Soyang Dam watershed in Korea. A comprehensive discussion on design flood under climate change is provided.

  • The sequences of monthly streamflows constitute a non-statonary time series. The purely stochastic model has been applied to data generation of non-stationary time series. Tow different mothods--single site and multisite generation--have been used on the hydrologic time series. In this study the synthetic generation method by bivariate analysis, studied by Thomas Fiering, one of multi-site models, has been applied to the historical data on monthly streamflows at two sites in Nakdong River, and also for validity of this model the single site Thomas Fiering model applied. Through statistical analysis it has been shown that the performance of bivariate Thomas Fiering model was better than that of the other. By comparison of mean and standard deviaion between the historical and the generated, and cross correlogram interpretation, it has been known that the model used herein has good performance to simultaneously generate the monthly streamflows at two sites in a river hasin.

  • An effective methodology is reported for the optimal design of multisite batch production/transportation and storage networks under uncertain demand forecasting. We assume that any given storage unit can store one material type which can be purchased from suppliers, internally produced, internally consumed, transported to or from other plant sites and/or sold to customers. We further assume that a storage unit is connected to all processing and transportation stages that consume/produce or move the material to which that storage unit is dedicated. Each processing stage transforms a set of feedstock materials or intermediates into a set of products with constant conversion factors. A batch transportation process can transfer one material or multiple materials at once between plant sites. The objective for optimization is to minimize the probability averaged total cost composed of raw material procurement, processing setup, transportation setup and inventory holding costs as well as the capital costs of processing stages and storage units. A novel production and inventory analysis formulation, the PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average level of the storage inventory. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two sub-problems. The first yields analytical solutions for determining lot sizes while the second is a separable concave minimization network flow subproblem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks for the given demand forecast scenario. The result of this study will contribute to the optimal design and operation of large-scale supply chain system.

  • In this paper, we propose sharing 3D media between multisite using enhanced Access Grid (e-AG) which is a composition of 3D display and Access Grld (AG) Conventional AG and other collaborative systems have a limitation to share immersive 3D media Thus, proposed system supports sharing 3D media contents in a AG meeting section. Real object can be shared by acquiring stereo image with pre-calibrated stereo camera and by delivering, and virtual object can be shared by transmitting state information after downloading 3D model. And also, real video scene acquired by stereo camera and virtual object from 3D model can be displayed on the 3D display system of each node adaptively. The characteristics of proposed sharing method are sharing 3D media, displaying 3D media on a system adaptively, supporting real-time interaction. The proposed sharing method will be used remote lecture, remote collaboration with 3D media.

  • In this study, a stochastic precipitation generation framework for simultaneous simulation of daily precipitation at multiple sites is presented. The precipitation occurrence at individual sites is generated using hybrid-order Markov chain model which allows higher-order dependence for dry sequences. The precipitation amounts are reproduced using Anscombe residuals and gamma distributions. Multisite spatial correlations in the precipitation occurrence and amount series are represented with spatially correlated random numbers. The proposed model is applied for a network of 17 locations in the middle of Korean peninsular. Evaluation statistics are reported by generating 50 realizations of the precipitation of length equal to the observed record. The analysis of results show that the model reproduces wet day number, wet and dry day spell, and mean and standard deviation of wet day amount fairly well. However, mean values of 50 realizations of generated precipitation series yield around 23% Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE) of the average value of observed maximum numbers of consecutive wet and dry days and 17% RMSE of the average value of observed annual maximum precipitations for return periods of 100 and 200 years. The provided model also reproduces spatial correlations in observed precipitation occurrence and amount series accurately.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an efficient model for the least cost design of multisite detention systems. The IDP (Incremental Dynamic Programming) model for optimal design is composed of two sub-models: hydrologic - hydraulic model and optimization model. The objective function of IDP is the sum of costs; acquisition cost of the land, construction cost of detention basin and pumping system. Model inputs include channel characteristics, hydrologic paramenters, design storm, and cost function. The model is applied to the Jung- Rang Cheon basin in Seoul, a watershed with detention basins in multiple branching channels. The application results show that the detention system can be designed reasonably for various conditions and the model can be applied to multi-site detention system design.
