An analytical model of the interference phenomena in the centerless grinding process is developed to investigate their effects on the roundness profile of a centerless ground workpiece. In this work, the regulating wheel and work-rest blade interferences are modeled as a single point contact. The grinding wheel interference is modeled as multiple points contact because material removal is determined by the duration of contact. The computer simulation results show good agreement with the experimental data. From this work, the existence and effects of the interference phenomena in the centerless grinding process are found.
As a basic information to implement the fire plan that dominates multiple targets effectively under the battle environment with limited resources, such a process is mandatory that gives a priority order to a target with the high level of threat by quantitatively computing the threat level of an individual target through the analysis on the target. However, the study has still remained in the initial level on an evaluation algorithm for the threat level of the ground target. Considering this fact, the present paper proposes the evaluation algorithm for the threat by multiple ground targets. The proposed algorithm has a core point to consider the type of target and protected asset to implement the computation of proximity; set the additional value based on the weights indicating the significance of weapon and protected asset; and compute the threat level of a target that considers the characteristics of the target. The evaluation and verification of performances have been implemented through the simulation and visualization of an algorithm proposed in the present paper. From the performance result, as the proposed algorithm has been able to perform effectively the threat assessment according to the weights indicating the significance of weapons and protected assets under diverse environments where weapons and protected assets are located, high utility and effect are expected when applied to an actual ground weapon system.
Lidar point clouds provide three dimensional information of terrain surface and have a great advantage to generate precise digital elevation model (DEM), particularly over forested area where some laser signals are transmitted to vegetation canopy and reflected from the bare ground. This study initially investigates the characteristics of lidar-derived height information as related to vertical structure of forest stands. Then, we propose a new filtering method to separate ground points from Lidar point clouds, which is a prerequisite process both to generate DEM surface and to extract biophysical information of forest stands. Laser points clouds over the forest stands in central Korea show that the vertical distribution of laser points greatly varies by the stand characteristics. Based on the characteristics, the proposed filtering method processes first and last returns simultaneously without setting any threshold value. The ground points separated by the proposed method are used to generate digital elevation model, furthermore, the result provides the possibilities to extract other biophysical characteristics of forest.
Base-isolated nuclear power plant (BI-NPP) structures are founded on expanded basemat as a flexible floating nuclear island, are still lacking the recommendation of the consideration of incoherent motion effect. The effect of incoherent earthquake motion on the seismic response of BI-NPP structure has been investigated herein. The incoherency of the ground motions is applied by using an isotropic frequency-dependent spatial correlation function to perform the conditional simulation of the reference design spectrum compatible ground motion in time domain. Time history analysis of two structural models with 486 and 5 equivalent lead plug rubber bearing (LRB) base-isolators have been done under uniform excitation and multiple point excitation. two different cases have been considered: 1) Incoherent motion generated for soft soil and 2) Incoherent motion generated for hard rock soil. The results show that the incoherent motions reduce acceleration and the lateral displacement responses and the reduction is noticeable at soft soil site and higher frequencies.
This paper studies the problem of tracking a re-entry vehicle (RV) in order to predict its impact point on the ground. Re-entry target dynamics combined with super-high speed has a complex non-linearity due to ballistic coefficient variations. However, it is difficult to construct a database for the ballistic coefficient of a unknown vehicle for a wide range of variations, thus the reliability of target tracking performance cannot be guaranteed if accurate ballistic coefficient estimation is not achieved. Various techniques for ballistic coefficient estimation have been previously proposed, but limitations exist for the estimation of non-linear parts accurately without obtaining prior information. In this paper we propose the ballistic coefficient ${\beta}$ model-based interacting multiple model-extended Kalman filter (${\beta}$-IMM-EKF) for precise tracking of an RV. To evaluate the performance, other ballistic coefficient model based filters, which are gamma augmented filter, gamma bootstrapped filter were compared and assessed with the proposed ${\beta}$-IMM-EKF for precise tracking of an RV.
Despite the significant features of fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (FRCCs), including better mechanical, fractural, and durability performance, their high content of cement has restricted their use in the construction industry. Although ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) is considered the main supplementary cementitious material, its slow pozzolanic reaction stands against its application. The addition of nano-sized mineral modifiers, including nano-silica (NS), is an alternative to address the drawbacks of using GGBFS. The main object of this empirical and numerical research is to examine the effect of NS on the strain-hardening behavior of cementitious composites; ten mixes were designed, and five levels of NS were considered. This study proposes a new method, using a four-point bending test to assess the use of nano-silica (NS) on the flexural behavior, first cracking strength, fracture energy, and micromechanical parameters including interfacial friction bond strength and maximum bridging stress. Digital image correlation (DIC) was used for monitoring the initiation and propagation of the cracks. In addition, to attain a deep comprehension of fiber/matrix interaction, scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis was used. It was discovered that using nano-silica (NS) in cementitious materials results in an enhancement in the matrix toughness, which prevents multiple cracking and, therefore, strain-hardening. In addition, adding NS enhanced the interfacial transition zone between matrix and fiber, leading to a higher interfacial friction bond strength, which helps multiple cracking in the composite due to the hydrophobic nature of polypropylene (PP) fibers. The findings of this research provide insight into finding the optimum percent of NS in which both ductility and high tensile strength of the composites would be satisfied. As a concluding remark, a new criterion is proposed, showing that the optimum value of nano-silica is 2%. The findings and proposed method of this study can facilitate the design and utilization of green cementitious composites in structures.

Drones are highly utilized because they can efficiently acquire long-distance videos. In drone operation, the speed, which is the magnitude of the velocity, can be set, but the moving direction cannot be set, so accurate information about the drone's movement should be estimated. In this paper, we estimate the velocity of the drone moving at a constant speed and direction. In order to estimate the drone's velocity, the displacement of the target frame to minimize the sum of absolute difference (SAD) of the reference frame and the target frame is obtained. The ground truth of the drone's velocity is calculated using the position of a certain matching point over all frames. In the experiments, a video was obtained from the drone moving at a constant speed at a height of 150 meters. The root mean squared error (RMSE) of the estimated velocities in x and y directions and the RMSE of the speed were obtained showing the reliability of the proposed method.

To detect targets for autonomous navigation of unmanned ground vehicle, mounted sensors are required to work all-weather condition. In this point of view, the FMCW radar is quietly appropriate. In this paper, we present development results of target signal simulator for multi-beam type FMCW radar. A target signal simulator make pseudo target signals which simulates multiple moving targets. And we describe how to make hit information for each target in multi-beam type radar. The developed methods are utilized for target tracking device. Moreover it can be applied to similar target signal simulator.

In this paper, a multiple U-shaped slot antenna for 5.25㎓~5.35㎓ is designed, fabricated, and measured. The prototype consists of U-slot and two invert U-slot. To obtain enough bandwidth, the foam layer is inserted between ground plane and substrate. Important parameters in the design are U-slot length, width, position, airgap length, and feed point. From these parameters optimized, a multiple U-shaped slot antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured results of the antenna are compared with its simulated results. The resonant frequency of the fabricated multiple U-shaped slot antenna is 5.25㎓ the bandwidth for approximately 7.4%(VSWR<1.5) and the gain is 2.9~5.3dBi. The experimental far-field patterns are stable across the pass band. The 3dB bandwidth in H-Plane and I-Plane are 62$^{\circ}$ and 50$^{\circ}$, respectively.
Airborne Lidar (light detection and ranging) can be an effective alternative in forest inventory to overcome the limitations of conventional field survey and aerial photo interpretation. In this study, we attempt to develop methodologies to identify individual trees and to estimate tree height from airborne Lidar data. Initially, digital elevation model (DEM) data representing the exact ground surface were generated by removing non-ground returns from the multiple-return laser point clouds, obtained over the coniferous forest site of rugged terrain. Based on the canopy height model (CHM) data representing non-ground layer, individual tree heights are extracted through pseudo-grid method and moving window filtering algorithm. Comparing with field survey data and aerial photo interpretation on sample plots, the number of trees extracted from Lidar data show over 90% accuracy and tree heights were underestimated within 1.1m in average at two plantation stands of pine (Pinus koraiensis) and larch (Larix leptolepis).
