  • In this paper, we examine the MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) system in the point of mobile communication that is used for railway environment. First, under the radio environment, wireless channel characteristics are analyzed between moving train and base station, both assuming track side base stations and non-track side base stations. Next, the paper introduces the MIMO system which can be used to solve the problem of performance degradation in railway environment, and analyzes its performance in terms of channel capacity and diversity. We especially compares open-loop scheme with closed loop scheme at the diversity and analyses their performance according to antenna correlation. Finally, the we presents experimental result from the ESCORT project that was studied in railway environment with the MIMO system.

  • In this paper, we propose a codebook-based interference alignment (IA) scheme in the constant multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channel especially for the uplink scenario. In our proposed scheme, we assume cooperation among base stations (BSs) through reliable backhaul links so that global channel knowledge is available for all BSs, which enables BS to compute he transmit precoder and inform its quantized index to the associated user via limited rate feedback link. We present an upper bound on the rate loss of the proposed scheme and derive the scaling law of the feedback load to maintain a constant rate loss relative to IA with perfect channel knowledge. Considering the impact of overhead due to training, cooperation, and feedback, we address the effective degrees of freedom (DOF) of the proposed scheme and derive the maximization of the effective DOF. From simulation results, we verify our analysis on the scaling law to preserve the multiplexing gain and confirm that the proposed scheme is more effective than the conventional IA scheme in terms of the effective DOF.

  • In almost all schemes of cooperative cognitive radio networks (CCRN), the users transmit and receive signals in half-duplex mode. In this paper, a design of CCRN adopting the full-duplex (FD) technique is addressed. In order to enable FD communication among users in the CCRN, simultaneous transmitting and receiving antennas are employed for the secondary users. Preliminary results from analysis and numerical evaluation indicate that the proposed FD multiple-input-multiple-output CCRN framework can provide a performance gain over the conventional CCRN frameworks.

  • This paper investigates an efficient transmission scheme for the remote wireless sensors to receive information which is rarely discussed in the integrated remote wireless sensor and multibeam satellite networks (IWSMSNs). The networks can be employed to exchange sensing information for emergency scenario, ocean scenario, and so on, which are isolated from available terrestrial networks. As the efficient transmission link is important to the IWSMSNs, we propose a hybrid full frequency (HFF) precoding by taking advantage of frequency reuse and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) precoding. Considering energy efficiency and sinks fairness are crucial to transmission link, thus the HFF precoding problems are formulated as transmit power minimization (TPM) and max-min fair (MMF) received signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) problems, which can be transformed to indefinite quadratic optimization programs. Then this paper presents a semi-definite programming (SDP) algorithm to solve the problems for the IWSMSNs. The promising potential of HFF for the real IWSMSNs is demonstrated through simulations.

  • Hybrid beamformer composed of Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) based scheme followed by Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) is proposed to overcome the degradation due to inaccurate channel estimation caused by insufficient pilot power, which happens in conventional Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) reverse link. The proposed scheme could provide more accurate channel estimation and interference reduction at the expense of diversity gam in the spatially correlated SIMO channel. As a result, hybrid scheme outperforms conventional MRC beamformer for six or more antennas in the channel environment, in which Angle-of-Spread (AOS) is within 30$^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we design transmitter and receiver structures for a $2{\times}2$ multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in ATSC 3.0 systems and analyze the performance of the $2{\times}2$ MIMO system. In the ATSC 3.0 MIMO systems, spatial diversity and multiplexing gains can be obtained using the spatial demultiplexer and precoder. In this paper, we present the structures of the transmitter and receiver for ATSC 3.0 MIMO systems. Also, we present performance results of the $2{\times}2$ MIMO system through computer simulations.

  • Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission is an essential technique for achieving the high bandwidth efficiency required in 5G mobile communication systems. Various forms of arrays can be used as the number of antenna elements increases for massive MIMO transmission. In this letter, we propose a beamforming algorithm applicable to multiuser MIMO transmission using uniform circular arrays. By employing quasi-orthogonal beam pairs obtained from the inter-beam correlation information, we minimize inter-user interference and evaluate the resulting performance gain.

We analyzed Doppler effects, reverberation and transmission characteristics for real channel effect analysis. As a result, reverberation and ships self-noise are disturbed factors for underwater communications.

  • The future wireless communication systems will use spatial multiplexing with Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) system to take advantage of high spectral efficiencies. In such systems it will be desirable to select a sub-set of available transmit or receive antennas to reduce cost and complexity. In this paper we propose a novel transmit antenna selection schemes for MIMO systems which is suitable for multipath environment. The proposed transmit antenna selection schemes offer better BER performance than that of MIMO systems without antenna selection and with traditionally proposed antenna selection schemes.

  • We develop a low complexity cooperative diversity protocol for low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) based wireless sensor networks. A cross layer approach is used to obtain spatial diversity in the physical layer. In this paper, a simple modification in clustering algorithm of the LEACH protocol is proposed to exploit virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based user cooperation. In lieu of selecting a single cluster-head at network layer, we proposed M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity order of M in long distance communication. Due to the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, cluster-heads are able to receive data from sensor nodes at the same time. This fact ensures the synchronization required to implement a virtual MIMO based space time block code (STBC) in cluster-head to sink node transmission. An analytical method to evaluate the energy consumption based on BER curve is presented. Analysis and simulation results show that proposed cooperative LEACH protocol can save a huge amount of energy over LEACH protocol with same data rate, bit error rate, delay and bandwidth requirements. Moreover, this proposal can achieve higher order diversity with improved spectral efficiency compared to other virtual MIMO based protocols.
