Effect of Acculturative Stress on Multicultural Adolescents' Life Satisfaction: Sequential Multiple Mediating Effects of Bicultural Acceptance Attitude, Self-Esteem, and Social Withdrawal -Using the 2016 Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study- (다문화 청소년의 문화적응 스트레스가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향: 이중문화 수용태도, 자아존중감, 사회적 위축의 순차적 다중 매개효과 -2016년 다문화 청소년패널조사 이용-)

  • Purpose: This study determined acculturative stress' effect on the life satisfaction of multicultural adolescents based on Roy's Adaptation Model and some earlier studies. Further, it examined the sequential multiple mediating effects of bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal on life satisfaction. Methods: Participants included 1,163 multicultural adolescents who participated in the sixth Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study. A hypothesis test was conducted using Hayes' Process Macro Model 81. Results: Life satisfaction increased with a decline in acculturative stress. Each of bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal had a single mediating effect on the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction in multicultural adolescents. The sequential multiple mediating effects of bicultural acceptance attitude and self-esteem were confirmed significant after their impact on the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction was analyzed. Bicultural acceptance attitude and social withdrawal were found to have a significant sequential multiple mediating effect on the relationship, as well. Conclusion: This study's results demonstrate that acculturative stress reduction is critical to improving multicultural adolescents' life satisfaction. Bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal have a single mediating or sequential multiple mediating effect on the relationship between multicultural adolescents' acculturative stress and life satisfaction. The findings, which highlight mediating effects, indicate that by increasing bicultural acceptance attitude and self-esteem, and reducing social withdrawal, multicultural adolescents' life satisfaction can be improved.

  • This study aims to analyze multiple mediating effects of asset and self-esteem on the relationship between disability of household head and life satisfaction. This study used 9th panel data of KoWePS(Korean Welfare Panel Study) and employed path analysis with A-MOS. Research findings of this study are as follows: First, disability of household head had a negative effect on life satisfaction, total assets, and self-esteem. Second, we found not full but partial mediating effects of assets on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Third, similarly we found not full but partial mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationship between disability and life satisfaction. Finally, we found multiple partial mediating effects of assets and self-esteem on the relationships between disability and life satisfaction. The findings of this study suggest that financial education as well as asset management targeting persons with disability are necessary and very helpful to sustain their life satisfaction. In addition, we need to think about asset-building programs targeting persons with disability.

The Effects of College Life Adaptability on Career Preparation Behaviors of College Students: Mediating Effects of Major Satisfaction, Job Stress, and Self-Directed Learning

  • This study is a study to empirically verify the mediating effect on college life adaptation and career preparation behavior of college students. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the multi-mediated effects of major satisfaction, job stress, and self-directed learning. For this study, 216 university students were enrolled. For the collected data, SPSS Process macro was used. The result is as follows. First, there were multiple parallel mediating effects and multiple serial mediating effects on major satisfaction, job stress, and self-directed learning between college life adaptability and career preparation behavior. Second, the path of simple mediation and double mediation effect was found between college life adaptation and career preparation behavior. Based on the research, the necessity of revitalizing the program for revitalization of teaching activities and industry-academic cooperation activities in the major field and improvement of career preparation behavior and university life adaptation ability and follow-up research were suggested.

Multiple Mediating Effects between Attachment and Life Quality among Freshmen in University: Stress, Affect, Social Support, Mental Health (대학생의 애착과 삶의 질의 다중 매개변인: 스트레스, 정서, 사회적지지, 정신건강문제)

  • The purpose of this study was to test the multiple mediating effects between attachment and life quality among university freshmen, regards on positive and negative affect, stress, social support and mental health as mediating factors. 200 freshmen were selected for the questionnaire study in a university in Busan. There were significant correlations among positive and negative affect, stress, social support, mental health and life quality with attachment. The maximum likelihood estimation revealed that attachment had no direct link with life quality. Attachment had indirect effects on life quality, mediated by positive affect and mental health. The results and limitations of this study were also discussed, from the perspective of attachment theory and previous studies.

A Study on the Effects of Perceived Parenting Attitudes on Regulatory Focus Among College Students: Mediating the Effects of Ego-Resiliency (대학생이 지각한 부모양육태도가 조절초점에 미치는 영향: 자아탄력성의 매개효과)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to test the mediating effects of ego-resilience on relationship between perceived parenting attitudes and regulatory focus among college students. Methods: In this study, 256 college students were surveyed. The collected data were put through correlation analysis using PASW Statistics 18.0. In addition, 3-stage multiple regression analyses and the Sobel test were used to test any mediating effects. Results: The findings show that the diversity of concerns and interests, emotion control, and positive future orientation, the subfactors of ego-resiliency, all have partial mediating effects on the relationship between father's care and promotion focus. Only positive future orientation had partial mediating effects on the relationship between mother's care and promotion focus. Conclusion: Father's care turned out to be an independent variable to explain better the mediating effects of ego-resiliency on relations between parenting attitudes and regulatory focus, which implies the influence and importance of father's care on college students.

Impact of Parents' Problem Drinking on Suicidal Ideation of Their University Student Children : The Multiple Mediating Effects of Childhood Trauma, Experiential Avoidance and Depression (부모의 문제음주가 대학생의 자살생각에 미치는 영향: 아동기 외상경험, 경험회피, 우울의 다중매개효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a hypothetical model about impact of parents' problem drinking on suicidal ideation of their children who are university students and the multiple mediating effects of childhood trauma, experiential avoidance, and depression based on stress-vulnerability model. Methods: A purposive sample of 400 university students was recruited from three universities in provincial areas and the data were collected between October and November 2016. The collected data were then analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling were performed. Multiple mediating effects analysis using phantom variable and bootstrapping were implemented to verify the mediating effect of the research model. Results: We found no significant direct effect on depression and suicidal ideation of parents' problem drinking, but multiple mediating effects of childhood trauma and experiential avoidance between parents' problem drinking and depression (B=.38, p=.001). The path from parents' problem drinking to suicidal ideation was significantly mediated by childhood trauma and depression (B=.02, p=.016) and by childhood trauma, experiential avoidance, and depression (B=.05, p=.011), but experiential avoidance did not have a significant direct effect on suicidal ideation (B=.02, p=.616). Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, it can be suggested that in order to decrease depression and prevent suicide of university students, considering of parents' problem drinking and childhood trauma, intervention methods that decreased chronic use of experiential avoidance and strengthen acceptance should be developed and made available to them.

A Study on the Mediating Effect of Job Stress, Job Attitude, and Social Support in the Relationship between Client Violence and Social Worker's Job Response (클라이언트 폭력과 사회복지사의 직무반응 관계에서 직무스트레스와 직무태도, 사회적 지지의 매개효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of job stress, job attitude, and social support on the relationship between client violence and social worker job response. The multi-mediating effect of job stress, job attitude, and social support between client violence and social worker job response was empirically analyzed. 257 social workers in social welfare facilities were analyzed using SPSS. The following conclusions were drawn. First, there was a significant correlation between client violence, job stress, job attitude, social support, and job response variables. Client violence was affecting variables related to social worker job response. Second, job stress, job attitude, and social support had multiple mediating effects. The parallel mediation effect and the serial mediation effect were verified. Third, job attitude was found to be a variable of multiple mediating effects. Fourth, job stress and social support were found to be double mediating effect variables. In response, programs and manuals suitable for the type of social welfare facilities and the policy basis for preparing countermeasures for social workers were limited, and follow-up studies on various variables were suggested.

The Effects of Parental Control Perceived by College Students on Career Maturity: Focusing on Multiple Mediating Effects of Self-Determination and Self-Efficacy (대학생이 지각한 부모통제가 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향: 자기결정성과 자기효능감의 다중매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine that multiple mediating effects of self-determination and self-efficacy in the relationship between the parental control and career maturity. In the study, 747 university students in Daegu, Busan and Seoul area were surveyed on their perceived level of parental control, career maturity, self-determination and self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis with SPSS 25.0 program, Hayes'Process Macro program and bootstrapping. The major results of this study were as follows; First, there were significant differences in college student's career maturity by grade, major, experience in career-related services and part-time job experience period. Second, there were significant correlations between parental control(behavioral control and psychological control), career maturity, self-determination and self-efficacy. Third, self-determination and Self-efficacy had multiple mediating effects in the relationship between parental control and career maturity. In conclusion, this study found multiple mediating effects of self-determination and self-efficacy in the relationship between parental control(behavioral control and psychological control) and career maturity. It was also found that parental behavioral control had a positive effect on career maturity by increasing self-determination and self-efficacy while parental psychological control had a negative effect on career maturity by decreasing self-determination and self-efficacy.

Effects of Participation in Adult Education on Cognitive Function: The Mediating Effect of Relationship with Children among Older Adults (노인의 교육참여가 인지기능에 미치는 영향: 자녀관계 만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of participation in adult education on cognitive function, and the mediating effects of relationships with children among older adults. This study employed data from the 2011 Elderly Survey, and a total of 8,668 older adults over 65-years old were used for analysis. Multiple linear regression analyses were used to examine the mediating effect of relationship with children based on the approach proposed by Baron & Kenny (1986). The results showed that participation in adult education increased cognitive function of older adults. Adult education participation also increased satisfaction with relationship with children, and relationship with children was found to have a mediating effect. These findings suggest that there is a need to recognize the importance of the relationship between older adults and children when developing education programs for older adults.

Influence of Head Nurses' Ethical Leadership on Job Satisfaction among Staff Nurses: Mediating Effect of Affective Commitment (수간호사의 윤리적 리더십이 간호사의 직무만족에 미치는 영향: 정서적 몰입의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the mediating effect of affective commitment on the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction. Methods: Participants were 216 nurses drawn from three general hospitals in C city. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: The findings from multiple regression were as follows. First, people orientation, ethical guidance of ethical leadership factors showed significant positive effects on affective commitment. Second, people orientation, ethical guidance of ethical leadership factors showed significant positive effects on job satisfaction. Finally, when ethical leadership factors and affective commitment were entered into the regression model at the same time, ethical leadership factors showed no significant effects on job satisfaction, however, affective commitment showed a significant effect and so affective commitment had a mediating effect between ethical leadership and job satisfaction. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that affective commitment with an effect on the relationship between ethical leadership and job satisfaction plays a full mediating role. Thus, developing ethical leadership training programs for head nurses would likely increase the affective commitment and job satisfaction of staff nurses.
