In this paper, we propose a block-based modularity architecture design method for distributed machine learning. The proposed architecture is a block-type module structure with various machine learning algorithms. It allows free expansion between block-type modules and allows multiple machine learning algorithms to be organically interlocked according to the situation. The architecture enables open data communication using the metadata query protocol. Also, the architecture makes it easy to implement an application service combining various edge computing devices by designing a communication method suitable for surrounding applications. To confirm the interlocking between the proposed block-type modules, we implemented a hardware-based modularity application system.
This paper aims to present the way to bring about significant results through performance improvement of learning algorithm in the research applying to machine learning. Research papers showing the results from machine learning methods were collected as data for this case study. In addition, suitable machine learning methods for each field were selected and suggested in this paper. As a result, SVM for engineering, decision-making tree algorithm for medical science, and SVM for other fields showed their efficiency in terms of their frequent use cases and classification/prediction. By analyzing cases of machine learning application, general characterization of application plans is drawn. Machine learning application has three steps: (1) data collection; (2) data learning through algorithm; and (3) significance test on algorithm. Performance is improved in each step by combining algorithm. Ways of performance improvement are classified as multiple machine learning structure modeling, $+{\alpha}$ machine learning structure modeling, and so forth.
Even though mainly statistical methods have been used in anomaly network intrusion detection, to detect various attack types, machine learning based anomaly detection was introduced. Machine learning based anomaly detection started from research applying traditional learning algorithms of artificial intelligence to intrusion detection. However, detection rates of these methods are not satisfactory. Especially, high false positive and repeated alarms about the same attack are problems. The main reason for this is that one packet is used as a basic learning unit. Most attacks consist of more than one packet. In addition, an attack does not lead to a consecutive packet stream. Therefore, with grouping of related packets, a new approach of group-based learning and detection is needed. This type of approach is similar to that of multiple-instance problems in the artificial intelligence community, which cannot clearly classify one instance, but classification of a group is possible. We suggest group generation algorithm grouping related packets, and a learning algorithm based on a unit of such group. To verify the usefulness of the suggested algorithm, 1998 DARPA data was used and the results show that our approach is quite useful.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to build a machine learning-based customer classification model to promote customer expansion effect of the free sample promotion. Specifically, the proposed model classifies potential target customers who are expected to purchase the products included in the free sample promotion after receiving the free samples. Design/methodology/approach This study proposes to build a customer classification model for determining customers suitable for providing free samples by using various machine learning techniques such as logistic regression, multiple discriminant analysis, case-based reasoning, decision tree, artificial neural network, and support vector machine. To validate the usefulness of the proposed model, we apply it to a real-world free sample-based target marketing case of a Korean major cosmetic retail company. Findings Experimental results show that a machine learning-based customer classification model presents satisfactory accuracy ranging from 70% to 75%. In particular, support vector machine is found to be the most effective machine learning technique for free sample-based target marketing model. Our study sheds a light on customer relationship management strategies using free sample promotions.
Numbers of studies related to optimization of design of organic light emitting diodes(OLED) through machine learning are increasing. We propose the generative method of the image to assess the performance of the device combining with machine learning technique. Principle parameter regarding dark spot growth mechanism of the OLED can be the key factor to determine the long-time performance. Captured images from actual device and randomly generated images at specific time and initial pinhole state are fed into the deep neural network system. The simulation reinforced by the machine learning technique can predict the device parameters accurately and faster. Similarly, the inverse design using multiple layer perceptron(MLP) system can infer the initial degradation factors at manufacturing with given device parameter to feedback the design of manufacturing process.

Objectives : This study is aimed at developing and discussing the prediction model of blood stasis pattern of traditional Korean medicine(TKM) using machine learning algorithms: multiple logistic regression and decision tree model. Methods : First, we reviewed the blood stasis(BS) questionnaires of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese version to make a integrated BS questionnaire of patient-reported outcomes. Through a human subject research, patients-reported BS symptoms data were acquired. Next, experts decisions of 5 Korean medicine doctor were also acquired, and supervised learning models were developed using multiple logistic regression and decision tree. Results : Integrated BS questionnaire with 24 items was developed. Multiple logistic regression models with accuracy of 0.92(male) and 0.95(female) validated by 10-folds cross-validation were constructed. By decision tree modeling methods, male model with 8 decision node and female model with 6 decision node were made. In the both models, symptoms of 'recent physical trauma', 'chest pain', 'numbness', and 'menstrual disorder(female only)' were considered as important factors. Conclusions : Because machine learning, especially supervised learning, can reveal and suggest important or essential factors among the very various symptoms making up a pattern identification, it can be a very useful tool in researching diagnostics of TKM. With a proper patient-reported outcomes or well-structured database, it can also be applied to a pre-screening solutions of healthcare system in Mibyoung stage.
In this paper, we found the solution using data based machine learning regression method to check the pore shape, to solve the problem of the experiment quantity occurring when producing scaffold with the 3d printer. Through experiments, we learned secured each print condition and pore shape. We have produced the scaffold from scaffold pore shape defect prediction model using multiple linear regression method. We predicted scaffold pore shapes of unsecured print condition using the manufactured scaffold pore shape defect prediction model. We randomly selected 20 print conditions from various predicted print conditions. We print scaffold five times under same print condition. We measured the pore shape of scaffold. We compared printed average pore shape with predicted pore shape. We have confirmed the prediction model precision is 99 %.
The most widely used parameter to represent rock abrasiveness is the Cerchar abrasivity index (CAI). The CAI value can be applied to predict wear in TBM cutters. It has been extensively demonstrated that the CAI is affected significantly by cementation degree, strength, and amount of abrasive minerals, i.e., the quartz content or equivalent quartz content in rocks. The relationship between the properties of rocks and the CAI is investigated in this study. A database comprising 223 observations that includes rock types, uniaxial compressive strengths, Brazilian tensile strengths, equivalent quartz contents, quartz contents, brittleness indices, and CAIs is constructed. A linear model is developed by selecting independent variables while considering multicollinearity after performing multiple regression analyses. Machine learning-based regression methods including support vector regression, regression tree regression, k-nearest neighbors regression, random forest regression, and artificial neural network regression are used in addition to multiple linear regression. The results of the random forest regression model show that it yields the best prediction performance.

Numerous factors contribute to the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. Elevated temperatures significantly alter the composition of the concrete ingredients, consequently diminishing the concrete's strength properties. With the escalation of global CO2 levels, the carbonation of concrete structures has emerged as a critical challenge, substantially affecting concrete durability research. Assessing and predicting concrete degradation due to thermal effects and carbonation are crucial yet intricate tasks. To address this, multiple prediction models for concrete carbonation and compressive strength under thermal impact have been developed. This study employs seven machine learning algorithms-specifically, multiple linear regression, decision trees, random forest, support vector machines, k-nearest neighbors, artificial neural networks, and extreme gradient boosting algorithms-to formulate predictive models for concrete carbonation and thermal impact. Two distinct datasets, derived from reported experimental studies, were utilized for training these predictive models. Performance evaluation relied on metrics like root mean square error, mean square error, mean absolute error, and coefficient of determination. The optimization of hyperparameters was achieved through k-fold cross-validation and grid search techniques. The analytical outcomes demonstrate that neural networks and extreme gradient boosting algorithms outshine the remaining five machine learning approaches, showcasing outstanding predictive performance for concrete carbonation and thermal effect modeling.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction effects between price determinants of artworks. We expand the methodology in art market by applying machine learning techniques to estimate the price of artworks and compare linear regression and machine learning in terms of prediction accuracy. Methods: Moderated regression analysis was performed to verify the interaction effects of artistic characteristics on price. The moderating effects were studied by confirming the significance level of the interaction terms of the derived regression equation. In order to derive price estimation model, we use multiple linear regression analysis, which is a parametric statistical technique, and k-nearest neighbor (kNN) regression, which is a nonparametric statistical technique in machine learning methods. Results: Mostly, the influences of the price determinants of art are different according to the auction types and the artist 's reputation. However, the auction type did not control the influence of the genre of the work on the price. As a result of the analysis, the kNN regression was superior to the linear regression analysis based on the prediction accuracy. Conclusion: It provides a theoretical basis for the complexity that exists between pricing determinant factors of artworks. In addition, the nonparametric models and machine learning techniques as well as existing parameter models are implemented to estimate the artworks' price.
