This study conducted to tried to find a way of on-line assessment of learner's interest and comprehension during interactive learning process. The result of experiment confirmed hat learners' behavior patterns acquired from log data could be good predictors of learner's level of interest and comprehension in actual performance on KORI program. To predict learning outcome depending on the behaviors of individual learners, self-efficacy and mastery goal orientation were measured as individual differences. Then, participants were asked to use TA program KORI program at home for ten days and their response patterns were recorded through network. After using KORI, the levels of interest and comprehension were measured. As the result of multiple regression analysis, each learner's interest and comprehension were predicted depending on the combination of log data captured on real-time. This prediction process was done differently depending on learners' characteristics. Since equations which predict learners' interest and comprehension are different depending on learners' characteristics, differential interfaces should be provided depending upon changes in their level of interest and comprehension.
this paper presents the concept of "mobile ATM', a proposal for third-generation (3G) mobile communication network infrastructure capable of supporting flexible evolution of radio technologies from today's cellular and data services towards future wireless multimedia services. Mobile ATM provides generic mobility management and QoS-based transport capabilities suitable for integration of multiple radio access technologies including cellular voice. wireless data, and future broadband wireless services. The architecture of a mobile ATM network is outlined in terms of the newly-defined "W-UNI" interface at the radio link and "M-UNI"and "M-UNI" interface which supports unified access for WATM and non-ATM mobile terminals through corresponding interworking functions (IWF) is explained. leading to an understanding of how different radio access technologies are supported by the same ATM-based core network infrastructure. Generic mechanisms for handoff and location management within the core mobile network are discussed. and related protocol extensions over the "W-UNI" and "M-UNI/NNI"interfaces are proposed. the issue of "crossover switch (COS)" selection in mobile ATM is considered, and a unified handoff signaling syntax which supports flexibility in COS selection is described. Typical signaling sequences for call connection and handoff using the proposed protocols are outlined. Experimental results form a proof-of-concept mobile ATM network prototype are presented in conclusion.
Experimental testing has been considered as one of the most straightforward approaches to realize the structural behavior for earthquake engineering studies. Recently, novel and advanced experimental techniques, which combine numerical simulation with experimental testing, have been developed and applied to structural testing practically. However, researchers have to take the risk of damaging specimens or facilities during the process of developing and validating new experimental methods. In view of this, a small-scale structural laboratory has been designed and constructed in order to verify the effectiveness of newly developed experimental technique before it is applied to large-scale testing for safety concerns in this paper. Two orthogonal steel reaction walls and one steel T-slotted reaction floor are designed and analyzed. Accordingly, a large variety of experimental setups can be completed by installing servo-hydraulic actuators and fixtures depending on different research purposes. Meanwhile, a state-of-the-art digital controller and multiple real-time computation machines are allocated. The integration of hardware and software interfaces provides the feasibility and flexibility of developing novel experimental methods that used to be difficult to complete in conventional structural laboratories. A simple experimental demonstration is presented which utilizes part of the hardware and software in the small-scale structural laboratory. Finally, experimental layouts of future potential development and application are addressed and discussed, providing the practitioners with valuable reference for experimental earthquake engineering.

As the technical demand for biometrics is increasing, users expect that fingerprint recognition systems are operable with various fingerprint readers. However, current commercial off-the-shelf fingerprint recognition systems are no interoperable due to the lack of standardization in application program interfaces for fingerprint readers. A cross-matching fingerprint recognition system is a person authentication system based on fingerprints and utilizing different types of fingerprint readers. It should be able to overcome variations in fingerprint images acquired by different readers, such as the size, resolution, contrast of images. The purpose of this research is to develop across-matching fingerprint recognition system for fingerprint research of different sensing mechanism. The fingerprint readers tested in this study are optical, semiconductor and thermal sensor modules, and the prpoposed cross-matching system utilizes both a minutiae-based similarity and a ridge count-based similarity in matching fingerprint images acquired by different sensors.
e-Manufacturing can be referred to as a system methodology enabling the integration of manufacturing operations and IT technologies to achieve objectives of an enterprise. It is recently regarded as a powerful solution to survive in a chaotic marketplace. While conducting an e-Manufacturing project, we first needed to capture collaborative processes conducted by multiple participants in order to define functions of a system supporting them. However, pervasive process modeling techniques including IDEF3, Petri nets, and UML are not sufficient for modeling collaborative processes. Therefore, we first briefly investigate several process modeling methods including aforementioned modeling methods and ARIS focusing on the collaboration point of view. Then, we propose a new modeling method referred to as Collaborative Process Modeling (CPM) to clearly describe collaborative processes. Also, we develop and illustrate a rule for transforming collaborative process models into Marked Graph models to use the analysis power of the Petri nets. Using CPM empowers us to develop collaborative process models with simple notations, understand and facilitate the realization of the collaboration, and verify models before rushing into the development.
The anti-collision algorithms to identify a number of tags in real-time in RFID systems are divided into the anti-collision algorithms based on the Framed slotted ALOHA that randomly select multiple slots to identify the tags, and the anti-collision algorithms based on the Tree-based algorithm that repeat the questions and answer process to identify the tags. In the hybrid algorithm which is combined the advantages of these algorithms, tags are distributed over the frames by selecting one frame among them and then identified by using the Query tree frame by frame. In this hybrid algorithm, however, the time of identifying all tags may increase if many tags are concentrated in a few frames. In this study, to improve the performance of the hybrid algorithm, we suggest an improved algorithm that the tags select a specific group of frames based on the earlier bits of the tag ID so that the tags are distribute equally over the frames. By using the simulation and mathematical analysis, we show that the suggested algorithm outperforms traditional hybrid algorithm from the viewpoint of the number of queries per frame and the time of identifying all tags.
Finding solutions for the disabled is a major challenge for our society. In the case of a disability due to a malfunction of the nervous system, the origin may be accidental, genetic, or induced by environmental factors. This type of loss can cause loss or movement disorders (paraplegia, hemiplegia, quadriplegia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, etc.) or malfunction of certain sensory functions (blindness, deafness, chronic pain, etc.). Many alternatives, more technology, have been imported to create interfaces between the human body and an artificial prosthesis in order to restore some functions of the human body. A wireless system, battery neurons probe was developed for one hand reading neural signals in the brain, and on the other hand also able to excite the neuron in the brain using a surface acoustic wave one ports (SAW) delay line reflection.

Quantum dots (QD) solar cells has received considerable attention due to their potential of improving the overall conversion efficiency by harvesting excess energy via multiple excitons generation (MEG). Although there have been many reports which show MEG phenomena by using optical measurement of quantum dots themselves, carrier multiplication in real QD photovoltaic devices has been sparsely reported due to difficulty in dissociation of excitons and charge collection. In this reports, heterojunction QD solar cells composed of PbS QD monolayer on highly crystalline $TiO_2$ thin films were fabricated by using Langmuir-Blodgett deposition technique to significantly reduce charge recombination at the interfaces between each QD. The PbS CQDs monolayer was characterized by using UV-vis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The internal quantum efficiency (IQE) for the monolayer QD solar cells was obtained by measurement of external quantum efficiency and determining light absorption efficiency of active layer. Carrier multiplication was observed by measuring IQE greater than 100% over threshold photon energy. Our findings demonstrate that monolayer QD solar cell structure is potentially capable of realizing highly efficient solar cells based on carrier multiplication.
The base station (BS) in the CDMA Mobile System (CMS) connects calls through the radio interface and is designed to provide mobile subscribers with high quality service in spite of mobile subscribers motions. The BS consists of multiple base station transceiver subsystems (BTSs), a base station controller (BSC) and a base station manager (BSM). This paper is concerned with the BSC and the BSM. The BSC is located between the BTSs and the mobile switching center (MSC) connected with the public network, and to mobile subscribers via the BTSs. The BSM provides operator-interfaces per the BS and takes responsibility of operation and maintenance (OAM) of the BS. Design of the BSC is based on two module types: functional module and unit module. The functional module is used to support new services easily and the unit module to increase the system capacity economically. Both modular types are easily achieved by inserting the corresponding modules to the system. Particularly, in order to efficiently support the soft handover which is one of CDMA superior advantages, the BSC adopts a large high-speed Packet switch connecting up to 512 BTSs, and thus mobile subscribers can be provided with soft handover in high probability. The BSM is based on a commercial workstation to support OAM functions efficiently and guarantee high reliability of the functions. The BSM uses graphical user interface (GUI) for efficient OAM functions of the BS.

As maritime information and communication technology has been developing and the demands for various kinds of application services has been increasing nowadays, the multi-band maritime networks combining available multiple radio networks has been introduced. We have previously proposed a multi-band network selection(MNS) system which operates in the middleware layer and selects the best available network seamlessly. In this paper we develop MNS server software, network interfaces, and application program. The functionalities of the MNS system, including updating network status, connecting to heterogeneous networks, and communicating in the best network are also verified via indoor test.
