The purpose of study was to investigate internal and external problem behavior according to types of multiple-attachments exhibited to both mothers and teachers. The subjects were 120 preschool children (between 4 to, -5 years old), their mothers and teachers. The attachment classification of these 120 preschoolers was evaluated by an attachment Q-set. Data was statistically analyzed by means of one-way ANOVA, and the Duncan test with the SPSS Win 13.0 program. Our results were as follows, Firstly, significant differences were observed in the internal problem behavior according to types of multiple-attachments. Second, significant differences were also observed in the external problem behavior according to types of multiple-attachments. This study suggests that secure attachment relationships with teachers may compensate for insecure relationships with mothers.
This study is to investigate the main factors influencing prenatal attachment. The research method is on the basis of descriptive correlational study, and data collecting period was from 11 to 29, November, 2003. The objects of this study were 100 pregnant women of two OBGY Hospitals in Masan. Using the SPSS/WIN 10.1 program the data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, stepwise multiple regression analysis. The result of this study was as follows : The mean score of prenatal attachment was 2.64, the mean score of physical discomforts, 1.61, the mean score of husband-wife attachment, 3.28, the mean score of psychosocial adjustment of pregnancy, 1.82. The degree of prenatal attachment according to general characteristics was significantly difference according to religion. The degree of prenatal attachment according to obstetrical characteristics was significantly difference according to Lamaze class, Taekyo. Significant correlations of prenatal attachment was found in both psychosocial adjustment of pregnancy, Taekyo, husband-wife attachment, Lamaze class, religion. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 52% of the variance in prenatal attachment was significantly accounted by psychosocial adjustment of pregnancy(34%), Taekyo(6%), husband-wife attachment(5%), Lamaze c1ass(5%), and religion(3%). Further findings of this study support the development of creative strategies to enhance positive attachment relationship for pregnant woman.
The purpose of this study was to test the multiple mediating effects between attachment and life quality among university freshmen, regards on positive and negative affect, stress, social support and mental health as mediating factors. 200 freshmen were selected for the questionnaire study in a university in Busan. There were significant correlations among positive and negative affect, stress, social support, mental health and life quality with attachment. The maximum likelihood estimation revealed that attachment had no direct link with life quality. Attachment had indirect effects on life quality, mediated by positive affect and mental health. The results and limitations of this study were also discussed, from the perspective of attachment theory and previous studies.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between maternal attachment and discharge against advice in high risk infants and determine the factors which affect discharge against advice. Data of this study were collected by means of reviewing the medical records of 127 in-patients who were diagnosed as high risk infants in admission and interviewing of the mothers of these patients was done by telephone. The high risk categories were neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, congenital anomaly, congenital heart disease, blood disorder, neonatal infection and birth injury. Maternal attachment was measured by deviding the subjects into 2 groups, the one the continuing treatment group and the other the discharge against advice group. Maternal attachment is determined by an interplay of maternal attitude and specific infant behaviors. Maternal attachment developes through continuous physical and psychological contact between mother and infants. Later it developes into maternal love. The results were as follows: 1. There was a significant association between maternal attachment and discharge against advice, that is, the attachment score was higher in the continuing treatment group. 2. Inspite of controlling medical insurance, severity of disease and the length of stay, it was found that there continued to be either a partially significant or fully significant relationship between maternal attachment and discharge against advice. Stepwise multiple regression revealed that maternal attachment was second in importance as a predictor of discharge against advice, which indicates that maternal attachment was a significant predictor of discharge against advice. 3. Stepwise multiple regression revealed that in 32.3% of these cases the significant predictors of discharge against advice were length of stay, maternal attachment, delivery type, feeding type and income.
Research with parents of children with Asperger Syndrome was conducted to assess whether the level of positive parental attachment correlated positively with positive parenting behaviors and negatively with negative parenting behaviors. Participants were recruited from internet. The Parental Bonding Inventory measured parents' perception of their bonding or attachment with three aspects of their own parents: warmth, control, and care. In the Parenting Behavior Inventory, parents reported recent interaction/reaction behaviors with their child, and results focused on two aspects of parenting, supportive/engaged and hostile/coercive behaviors: each identified as problematic to parenting and attributable to a variety of specific parenting behaviors. Analysis of demographic variables for correlations with positive parenting behaviors and negative parenting behaviors were carried out by Pearson correlations. Two separate standard multiple regressions, one for positive parenting behaviors and one for negative parenting behaviors, were conducted. Findings support the hypothesis that positive early attachment experience of parents has a significant impact upon their own positive parenting skills with their child with Asperger Syndrome. However, multiple regression of negative parenting behavior found no significant negative contribution by parental attachment. Demographic variables proved to be important.
This study investigated peer competence according to children's types of multiple attachment for mothers and teachers. The subjects of this study were 129 five-year old children and their 7 teachers who attend 3 kindergarten in Busan. They completed Attachment Story Completion Task(ASCT), Attachment Q-set and Peer Competence Measure. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and two-way ANOVA. The major results of this study were as follows: First, for mother, children who were securely attached showed higher peer competence than children who were insecurely attached. Girls showed higher peer competence than boys. No significant differences were found between securely attached and insecurely attached children with teachers. Girls showed higher peer competence than boys. Second, children who were attached both mother and teacher or either mother or teacher showed higher competence than children who were insecurely attached with both mother and teacher.
Objectives: The main purpose of this study was to examine how family strengths affect friend attachment and psychological well-being among college students and to analyze the relative influence of these two variables on psychological well-being. Method: Data were collected by self-administered questionnaire method from 362 university students in four different regions. The data were analyzed through various statistical methods such as t and F tests, Pearson's correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses. Results: First, there were significant differences in the level of psychological well-being according to gender and the monthly family income, showing that males and higher family income group reported greater psychogocal-well-being level. Males also reported lower level of anxious attachment. Second, correlational analyses results indicated that college students' psychological well-being was positively related with family strengths and secure attachment, and was negatively correlated with avoidant and anxious attachment. Finally, the results of hierarchical multiple regression analyses indicated that college student's psychological well-being was influenced by family communication, secure attachment, and anxious attachment, showing that anxious attachment was the most influential variable. Conclusions: This study suggests the importance of providing education and/or counseling services focusing on strengthening the positive relationship with their friends and on increasing the family communication for college students' psychological well-being.
The socio-emotional behaviors of 2-year-olds were examined by multiple attachments to mothers and child care providers in the context of home and child care centers. Participants were 100 children (mean age: 30.2 months), their mothers, and 27 child care providers. Attachment security was assessed with attachment Q-set. Children's social interaction with peers and teachers were rated every 10 seconds during 10 minute observation periods for 4 days, totaling40 minutes per child. Mothers and child care providers completed the Infant Toddler Socio-Emotional Assessment (ITSEA). Results showed that secure attachment relationships with child care providers partly compensated for insecure attachments with mothers at home. In the context of the child care center, secure attachments with child care providers were more important determinants of the development of socio-emotional behaviors than secure attachments with mothers.
This study investigated the significant difference in the influences of pregnant couples' attachment representation for parents of origin on their psychological symptoms according to groups. One hundred and eighty two pregnant couples answered the questionnaire. Data were analyzed by means of frequency, percentages, t-test. Pearson's correlation using SPSS ver. 21.0 and multiple group structural equation modeling using AMOS ver. 20.0. The findings are as follows. First, there were significant differences in attachment representations according to parents of origin and psychological symptoms between pregnant women and spouses. Second, there were negative influences of attachment representations to parents of origin on psychological symptoms for both the pregnant women group and their spouses group, respectively. Last, the negative effects of attachment representation for parents of origin on their psychological symptoms according to groups were significantly different; consequently, the impact on the spouses group was stronger than the pregnant women group. The results imply that policies to help pregnant couples reduce psychological symptoms should be provided. In addition, the unexpected result on the weaker impact of pregnant women's attachment representation for parents of origin on their psychological symptoms suggests it is better to consider other factors simultaneously (such as a romantic attachment to spouses) that might provide a moderating role. The study results are meaningful because it is the first to apply a statistically advanced method to analyze pregnant women and spouses in relation to parents of origin on their psychological symptoms.
Purpose: To consider how college students' adjustment to college life is related to peer attachment and self-esteem. Method: The subjects were 183 female college students attending one university. The study data were collected with the inventory of peer attachment-revised version, the self-esteem inventory, and the inventory for adjustment to college life. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There were significant differences in self-esteem according to residence type. There were significant differences in the adjustment to college life according to monthly income. There was a significantly positive correlation between peer attachment and adjustment to college life. There were significantly positive correlations between self-esteem and adjustment to college life and all of the subscales of adjustment to college life. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 28.6% of the adjustment to college life was significantly explained by self-esteem and monthly income. Conclusion: Based on these findings, peer attachment is a very important factor influencing self-esteem which is itself a very important factor influencing adjustment to college life in female college students. Therefore, an alternative program designed to increase the self-esteem and peer attachment of female college students should be a planned program based on the study results.
