초고속 멀티미디어 단말기를 위한 분산 멀티미디어 데이터베이스 전송 프로토콜 설계 (A Design of Distributed Multimedia Database Communication Protocol for Highspeed Multimedia Terminal)

  • To transmit multimedia information efficiently and use it in realtime, it needs a private multimedia terminal for service type. But multimedia information terminal was developped for of offered service type in case by case. Accordingly, general multimedia terminal have not been developed yet. Multimedia database structure and standard communication protocol must be designed first to develop the general multimedia terminal. Multimedia database structure needs to store the various multimedia information consistently and, standard communication protocol access the database transparently. In this paper, we design a multimedia database structure and communication protocol that are able to access the multimedia information on distributed database servers in the network.

  • 본 논문은 광대역 ISDN에서 사용될 수 있는 멸티미디어 통신단말의 구조를 제안하였다. 제안한 구조는 ITU-T, Digital Audio-Visual Council(DAVIC), A TM Forum 등의 국제, 사설 표준기구에서 권고하고 있는 멀티미디어단말 및 서비스를 분석한 결과이며, 기존 통신단말과의 연동을 보장하며, 현재 및 미래의 멀티미디어 응용서비스에 유연하게 대처할 수 있는 구조를 갖도록 하였다. 제안한 구조에 따라 설계된 서비스 통합형 멀티미디어 통선단말은 범용 PC에 탑재되는 멸티미디어 처리보드와 ATM 접속보드로 나누어 구현하였다. 구현된 서비스 통합형 멸티미디어 통신단말은 검색, 분배형 통신서비스와 대화형 통신서비스를 동시에 제공하는 것이 가능하며, 이에 따르는 서비스 별의 기능시험을 수행하였다.

A Multimedia Data Compression Scheme for Disaster Prevention in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

  • Recent years have seen a significant increase in demand for multimedia data over wireless sensor networks for monitoring applications that utilize sensor nodes to collect multimedia data, including sound and video. However, the multimedia streams generate a very large amount of data. When data transmission schemes for traditional wireless sensor networks are applied in wireless multimedia sensor networks, the network lifetime significantly decreases due to the excessive energy consumption of specific nodes. In this paper, we propose a data compression scheme that implements the Chinese remainder theorem to a wireless multimedia sensor network. The proposed scheme uses the Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) to compress and split multimedia data, and it then transmits the bit-pattern packets of the remainder to the base station. As a result, the amount of multimedia data that is transmitted is reduced. The superiority of our proposed scheme is demonstrated by comparing its performance to that of an existing scheme. The results of our experiment indicate that our proposed scheme significantly increased the compression ratio and reduced the compression operation in comparison to those of existing compression schemes.

  • In this paper, we present a practical implementation of the MPEG-21 multimedia framework for broadcasting and communication convergent services. MPEG-21 standard technology was exploited to build a convergent service framework. Using this framework, a service model and several scenarios have been successfully designed and implemented. In addition, interoperability, which is the main objective of a multimedia framework, especially in a convergent environment consisting of heterogeneous networks and various types of devices, has been addressed in detail. The experimental results show that the implemented test bed provides a next-generation multimedia service; that is, universal multimedia access (UMA), meeting the requirements of a broadcasting and communication convergent environment.

  • MPEG-21은 디지털 객체를 정의하고 이를 네트워크상에서 생성, 변형, 전달, 소비를 위한 통합적 멀티미디어 프레임워크에 대한 국제 표준이다. 디지털 아이템(DI: Digital item)은 MPEG-21 프레임워크 내에서 표준화 된 식별체계, 서술 형식을 따르는 구조화된 디지털 객체이며, 유통, 처리의 최소 단위이다 본 논문에서는 이러한 디지털 아이템을 최종 소비하는 MPEG-21 터미널 구조를 제안하고 이에 대한 설계 및 구현, 그리고 실험 결과를 제시한다

  • MPEG-21은 사용자가 다양한 멀티미디어 데이터를 네트워크상에서 생성, 변형, 전달, 소비하기 위한 통합적 멀티미디어 프레임워크를 정의한 국제 표준이 다. MPEG-21 DIA(digital item adaptation)는 멀티 미디어 데이터를 사용자의 환경, 단말기 특성, 네트워크 특성에 대한 정보를 기술할 수 있는 표준을 정의하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 DIA에서 정의한 여러 가지 적응 변환 중 사용자의 관심 영역을 중심으로 한 의미론적 변환 엔진을 구현하였으며, 이에 대한 실험결과를 제시한다 기존의 변환 방법이 비디오 프레임의 전체 크기, 해상도 화질을 조정하였다면, 의미론적 변환은 사용자의 관심 영역을 중심으로 변환을 수행함으로써, 사용자의 관심도를 반영할 수 있는 장점이 있다.

  • Our platform introduced in this paper is based on DAVIC specifications which define high quality multimedia services with some extensions to provide user friendly and uniform interface to its users. We designed and implemented an integrated service platform for high quality interactive multimedia services, swithed digital broadcasting, and Internet services. The integration in terms of a service provider system, a delivery system, and a service user system is taken into account. Our research results in the development of integrated high quality interactive and digital broadcasting multimedia services with web-based common user interface and its experience will be feedback to the field trial service which will be launched from next year.

  • The next generation mobile multimedia network is expected to provide higher-rate multimedia communication services to versatile mobile terminals moving in even higher speed. For achieving more efficient reusability of scarce radio resources and thereby accommodating more user population in this network, the smaller cell such as micro or pico cell structure is used. More efficient and faster hand-over schemes are necessary to prevent the degradation of QoS of multimedia services caused by hand-over processing delay and packet loss during frequent hand-over. This paper proposes a faster and more effective hand-over scheme for high-rate multimedia services in the future mobile multimedia networks. by utilizing the GPS information on the position of the mobile terminal and its estimated moving directions. The simulation results show that our proposed method provides a better performance than the conventional method.
