  • Sensor network has been a hot research topic for the past decade and has moved its phase into using multimedia sensors such as cameras and microphones [1]. Combining many types of sensor data will lead to more accurate and precise information of the environment. However, the use of sensor network data is still limited to closed circumstances. Thus, in this paper, we propose a web-service based framework to deploy multimedia sensor networks. In order to unify different types of sensor data and also to support heterogeneous client applications, we used ROA (Resource Oriented Architecture [2]).

  • A multimedia remote ultrasound image transfer system for tole-medical services was implemented. The image data of the ultrasound scanner system of the slave is compressed using image compression system. It is transferred to the master PC via ISDN UNI(User-Network Interface) and decompressd by image decompression system. The total system is composed of three parts; first, the image capture card which transfers bidirection- al data between ultrasound scanner system and PC, second, image compression and decompression card, finally, ISDN TA(Terminal Adaptor) card for transferring the image. This system has a easy user interface because it is executed on the basis of MS-WINDOWS. So it is capable of serving medical services at a remote place.

  • According to the development of B-ISDN on ATM network, the uses of Multimedia service is growing. Although ABR service uses the network resource most effectively because it is able to change the transfer rate, it is not used for multimedia service until recently. In this paper, we set priority queue and non-priority queue in the ATM switch and each queue has threshold so is can be adopted in different transfer rate method. We propose the real-time traffic transfer method over ABR service based on an effective traffic control method.

  • This paper presents the application of the wavelet transform analysis and the neural network method to the phonocardiogram (PCG) signal. Heart sound is a acoustic signal generated by cardiac valves, myocardium and blood flow and is a very complex and nonstationary signal composed of many source. Heart sound can be discriminated normal heart sound and heart murmur. Murmurs have broader frequency bandwidth than the normal ones and can occur at random position of cardiac cycle. In this paper, we classified the group of heart sound as normal heart sound(NO), pre-systolic murmur(PS), early systolic murmur(ES), late systolic murmur(LS), early diastolic murmur(ED). And we used the wavelet transform to shorten artifacts and strengthen the low level signal. The ANN system was trained and tested with the back- propagation algorithm from a large data set of examples-normal and abnormal signals classified by expert. The best ANN configuration occurred with 15 hidden layer neurons. We can get the accuracy of 85.6% by using the proposed algorithm.

  • High-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN) has been standardized by the IEEE 802.15.3 task group (TG). To support multimedia services, the IEEE 802.15.3 TG adopts a time-slotted medium access control (MAC) protocol controlled by a central device. In the time division multiple access (TDMA)-based wireless packet networks, the packet scheduling algorithm plays a key role in quality of service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia services. In this paper, we propose an adaptive cross-layer packet scheduling method for the TDMA-based HR-WPAN. Physical channel conditions, MAC protocol, link layer status, random traffic arrival, and QoS requirement are taken into consideration by the proposed packet scheduling method. Performance evaluations are carried out through extensive simulations and significant performance enhancements are observed. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed scheme remains stable regardless of the variable system parameters such as the number of devices (DEVs) and delay bound.

  • The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is used for providing multimedia services to network provider. The IMS is composed of many nodes, depending on their function. According to the status (fault, performance, etc.) of each node, we need to provide dynamic routing algorithm. In this paper, we propose a dynamic routing algorithm for management of the IMS nodes using SNMP based on FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security) in the IMS network.

  • The purpose of this research is to extend Ad-hoc network system lifetime with the proposed routing protocol which has considered hop lifetimes of the nodes while guaranteeing QoS in the establishment process of Ad-hoc network communication paths. Based on another power aware routing system that proposed in the advanced research [1], we are proposing an alternative power aware routing system in which nodes' hop lifetimes are compared in order to extend the lifetime of an Ad-hoc network system and delay factors have been considered for the assurance of QoS. The research of the routing protocol in this paper, which aims to maximize the system survival time considering power consumption status during the path searching in MANET and pursues the mechanism that controls hop delays for the same reason, can be applied to the study of WSN. The study concerning such phenomena is essential so that the proposed protocol has been simulated and verified with NS-2 in Linux system focusing on the lifetimes of the hops of the nodes. Commercialization of smart devices and arrival of the ubiquitous age has brought about the world where all the people and things are connected with networks. Since the proposed power aware method and the hop delay control mechanism used to find the adequate communication paths in MANET which mainly uses batteries or in WSN, they can largely contribute to the lifetime extension of the network system by reducing power consumptions when utilized for the communications attempts among soldiers during military operation, disaster areas, temporary events or exhibitions, mobile phone shadow areas, home networks, in-between vehicle communications and sense networks, etc. This paper presents the definitions and some advantages regarding the proposed outing protocol that sustain and extend the lifetime of the networks.

  • This paper presents the role and its function of Tool server. MPEG-21 means multimedia framework for delivery and consumption of multimedia which is being discussed in ISO/IEC 21000. A view of MPEC-21 aims to define multimedia framework to enable transparent use of multimedia resource across a wide range of networks and devices used by different communities. MPEG-21 will enable all-electronic creation delivery and trade of digital multimedia content and transparent usage of various content types on network device. Therefore, we can provide access to information and services from almost anywhere at anytime with various terminals and networks. In order to support multimedia delivery chain that contains content creation, production, delivery and consumption, we need many standards(elements) for identify, describe, manage and protect the content. Thus, we define Digital Item Player(DIP), Digital Item Adaptation(DIA) server and Tool server as primary objects of MPEG-21 multimedia framework. DIP provides a function which creates and consumes Digital Item(DI) as a kind of a digital object by user. A DI contains both media resources and metadata including rights information. DIA server deals with the usage environment description schema of the user characteristics, terminal and network characteristics and natural environments. DIA server adapts the original DI to the usage environment description sent from the terminal and transmits the adapted DI to the terminal. Tool server searches for a tool requested from DIP or DIA and downloads the best tool to DIP or DIA server. In this paper, we present how Tool sewer is organized and is used among 2 primary objects. The paper is structured as followings: Section 1 briefly describes why MPEG-21 is needed and what MPEG-21 wants. We see requirement that tool server must equip functionally in section 2. The proposed tool server, its structure and its functionality are presented in section 3. Section 4 explains a scenario that tool server transmits tool to DIP and shows the experimental result. The paper concludes in section 5.

  • According to rapidly developed mobile terminals and network in the play environment for multimedia presentation, different end-to-end QoS situations appear. Then the generation of transcoding path algorithm was reviewed to transcode a source'data satisfying the needed QoS from a destination and play it considering given transcoders and network. This method used only workload as a parameter although two parameters, workload and throughput, were needed to process multimedia stream in a transcoder, Therefore generated transcoding path with this method had additional calculation to check playability whether it was safisfed the QoS of a destination or not. To solve the problem this paper suggests T algorithm with evaluation function using isochronous property that is needed for multimedia stream to arrive a destination. That means, most playable path is selected with heuristic search based isochronous property between many transcoding paths. Using the suggested algorithm, a transcoding path can be generated faster to play the multimedia data with different end-to-end QoS in real-time transmission.

  • It is very important for more effective military operation to share information required in recognizing a situation by monitoring battlefield. The recognition of situations is offered visually though multi-media systems such as a COP(Common Operation Picture), UAV etc. The operating method has rapidly changed into Network-Centric Warfare (NCW). As a result, the data that these Multimedia systems should control is increasing. Improved performance of Multimedia systems is required to deal with them. In this paper, we propose Extended-Military Multimedia System(E-MMS) applying the most excellent scheduling method in terms of meet-ratio in real time when Multimedia systems carry out assigned information in real time for monitoring as the method of improved performance. As a result of utility about proposed system, it is verified that realtime EDF(Earliest Deadline First) scheduling method is more improved up to 20% compared to non-realtime FCFS(First Come First Service) in terms of the deadline meet ratio.
