Multihop is the main communication style for wireless sensor networks composed of tiny sensor nodes. Until now, most applications have treated the periodic small sized sensing data. Recently, the burst traffic with the transient and continuous nature is increasingly introduced due to the advent of wireless multimedia sensor networks. Therefore, the efficient communication protocol to support this trend is required. In this paper, we propose a novel PIGAB(Packet Interval Gap based on Adaptive Backoff) protocol to efficiently transmit the burst data in multihop wireless sensor networks. The contention-based PIGAB protocol consists of the PIG(Packet Interval Gap) control algorithm in the source node and the MF(MAC-level Forwarding) algorithm in the relay node. The PIGAB is on basis of the newly proposed AB(Adaptive Backoff), CAB(Collision Avoidance Backoff), and UB(Uniform Backoff). These innovative algorithms and schemes can achieve the performance of network by adjusting the gap of every packet interval, recognizing the packet transmission of the hidden node. Through the simulations and experiments, we identify that the proposed PIGAB protocol considerably has the stable throughput and low latency in transmitting the burst data in multihop wireless sensor networks.
While the broadband network and multimedia technologies have been developing, the commercial market of digital contents has also been widely spreading with recently starting IPTV. Generally, PC player can display digital contents obtained through middleware like a settop box and can only bring the informations about contents like CODEC, bitrate etc. useful for only experts. But general users want to know more optional informations like content's subject, description etc. So unlike previous PC player, we proposed a player system that can get inserted informations, namely EPG(Electronic Program Guide), without database after bringing contents to PC through settop box. In addition, we also proposed DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) based blind watermark generating method to insert EPG informations. We can extract watermark without original image and insert robust watermark in proportion to coefficients in frequency domain. And we analyzed and parsed PSI data from MPEG-TS. So we could insert wanted information using watermark from EPG. And we composed UI by extracting EPG information from watermark interted contents. Finally we modularized whole system into the watermark insert/extract application and directshow filter based player. So we tried to design this system so that the general developer can do in a way that is easier and faster.
In this study, we analyzed the needs of open university students for e-textbooks by conducting focus group interviews (FGIs) and surveys in order to develop an e-textbook that is suited to their needs. The FGIs revealed that readability and portability of e-textbooks were the most important features for students. The surveys showed that of the 276 respondents who participated in the study, only a small number owned smartpads; however, a sizeable number of students intended on purchasing the device in the future. In addition, students' smartpad utilization, time spent reading e-books, and time allotted for studying as opposed to leisure and commercial use of social network services on the smartpad were examined. Students attached importance to the portability, weight, and price of the e-textbook; moreover, they considered the device's ability to support interaction in a variety of ways and rich multimedia resources to be an advantage. Finally, students also felt that e-textbooks should be less expensive than print textbooks; however, they were willing to pay a higher price, depending on the quality of the content.

A major challenge in next generation optical Internet (NGOI) networks based on dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) is the provision of guaranteed quality-of-service (QoS) for a wide variety of multimedia applications. One of the critical issues in NGOI is the routing and wavelength assignment problem that is embossed as very important and plays a key role in improving the global efficiency for capacity utilization. But the previous researches had the delay problem, and the path routed by higher priority nodes may be congested and interfere with potential future multicast session requests. To overcome these problems, in this research we suggest a Priority-based Minimum Interference Path Multicast Routing (PMIPMR) algorithm, a new routing algorithm which finds alternative routes based on node priorities and Virtual Source (VS) nodes that has both splitting and wavelength conversion, and then chooses a path that does not interfere with potential future multicast session requests when congestions occur in the network. The PMIPMR algorithm reduces blocking rate significantly and increases the wavelength utilization by avoiding congestion in future multicast session requests.

The goal of this paper is to explore the field of Computer and Information Science with the aid of text mining techniques by mining Computer and Information Science related conference data available in DBLP (Digital Bibliography & Library Project). Although studies based on bibliometric analysis are most prevalent in investigating dynamics of a research field, we attempt to understand dynamics of the field by utilizing Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)-based multinomial topic modeling. For this study, we collect 236,170 documents from 353 conferences related to Computer and Information Science in DBLP. We aim to include conferences in the field of Computer and Information Science as broad as possible. We analyze topic modeling results along with datasets collected over the period of 2000 to 2011 including top authors per topic and top conferences per topic. We identify the following four different patterns in topic trends in the field of computer and information science during this period: growing (network related topics), shrinking (AI and data mining related topics), continuing (web, text mining information retrieval and database related topics), and fluctuating pattern (HCI, information system and multimedia system related topics).
While the broadband network and multimedia technologies have been developing, the commercial market of digital contents also has been widely spreading with recently starting IPTV. As the IPTV services are getting to be generalized and popularized, the contents protection and authentication system tends to draw more attentions. So we need a system that can protect contents and allow only authenticated person to use right service by controling user authority and using content encryption. Until now, the conventional protection and authentication system is taking advantages of merits both in CAS and DRM. But the weak point of this system are in high costs, complexity and using HW. For resolving these problems, in this paper, we proposed IPTV contents protection and authentication system using OTP. When we transmit the content encrypted by OTP key using contents delivery technology, we operate XOR with contents using another settop-box's OTP key which was transmitted from distribution server. And contents are reconstructed and transmitted to the settop-box, In the end, downloaded content are encrypted by OTP key and are superior in content protection when contents redistribution. Since OTP use double-authentication elements in encryption process, this method is excellent in content protection. And it is very effective in cost aspect because it could be implemented by SW program. Another benefit is that we can shorten the development time period. In this paper, we propose and find its possibility as a new content protection and authentication method suitable for IPTV services.
The Access Grid (AG) provides collaboration environments over the IP multicast networks by enabling efficient exchange of multimedia contents among remote users; however, since lots of current networks are still multicast-disabled, it is not easy to deploy this multicast-based multi-party AG. For this problem, the AG provides multicast bridges as a solution by putting a relay server into the multicast networks. Multicast-disabled clients make UDP connections with this relay server and receive forwarded multicast traffics in unicast UDP packets. This solution is facing several limitations since it requires duplicate forwarding of the same packet for each unicast peer. Thus, in this paper, we propose an alternate solution for the multicast connectivity problem of the AG based on the UMTP (UDP multicast tunneling protocol). By taking advantage of flexibilities of UMTP, the proposed solution is designed to improve the efficiency of network and system utilization, to allow reuse of multicast-based AG applications without modification, and to partially address the NAT/firewall traversal issues. To verify the feasibility of proposed solution, we have implemented a prototype AG connectivity tool based on the UMTP, named as the AG Connector.
Recent advances in communication and multimedia technologies make it possible to provide video-on-demand(VOD) services and people can access video servers over the Internet at any time using their electronic devices, such as PDA, mobile phone and digital TV. Each device has different processing capabilities, energy budgets, display sizes and network connectivities. To support such diverse devices, multiple versions of videos are needed to meet users' requests. In general cases, VOD servers cannot store all the versions of videos due to the storage limitation. When a device requests a stored version, the server can send the appropriate version immediately, but when the requested version is not stored, the server first converts some stored version to the requested version, and then sends it to the client. We call this conversion process transcoding. If transcoding occurs frequently in a VOD server, the CPU resource of the server becomes insufficient to response to clients. Thus, to admit as many requests as possible, we need to maximize the CPU availability. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to select versions from those stored on disk using a branch and bound technique to maximize the CPU availability. We also explore the impact of these storage management policies on streaming to heterogeneous users.

The first geostationary satellite made by Korea, COMS, has the three different payload ; Meteorological sensor, Oceanographic sensor and Ka-band communication payload. There are Meteorological & Ocean Data Communication Subsystem(MODCS) and Telemetry, Command and Ranging Subsystem(TC&R) as other RF radiation sources. MODCS transmits and receives Meteo and Ocean measurement data from/to earth using L-band and TC&R using S-band. The Ka-band communication payload will provide high-speed multimedia services and communication services for natural disaster such as prediction, prevention, and recovery services in the government communications network.Ka-band beacon is for the earth antenna pointing and the experiment of rain fading. This paper gives the analysis results about the mutual radiation effect on Ka-band communication payload, Ka-band beacon, MODCS and TC&R. Up/Down link power and coupling factor including the geometrical position and distance of antenna, filter rejection and degradation factor due to the different polarization are considered. The results show MODCS and TC&R are compatible for Ka-band communication payload and Ka-band beacon does not interfere with MODCS and TC&R normal operation.

In wireless environment, due to the limited capacity of radio channels it is not easy to guarantee QoS provisioning to mobile users. Therefore, one of the key problems to support broadband multimedia multi-services in wireless ATM networks is to study an effective call admission control(CAC). The purpose of this paper is to propose a distributed CAC scheme that guarantees multi QoS and multi-class service. Control parameters of the proposed scheme are QoS threshold and channel overload probability. With these parameter control, we show that the scheme can guarantee the requested QoS to both new and handover calls. In the scheme, channels are allocated dynamically, and QoS measurements are made in a distributed manner. We show that by providing variable data rate to calls it can effectively prohibit the QoS degradation even if there are severe fluctuations of network traffic. We compare the proposed CAC scheme to the well-known schemes such as guard band call admission control scheme. Through numerical examples and simulations, the proposed scheme is shown to improve the performance by lowering the probability of handover call dropping
