A portable multichannel FES system for control of paralyzed extremities (마비된 말단근육의 제어를 위한 휴대용 다중 채널의 기능적 전기자극(FES) 장치)

  • A portable multichannel functional electrical stimulation(FES) system for the fine control of the paralyzed extremities in spinal cord injury patients is described. This system is composed of a stimulation data creating system, a serial communication device, a 16-bit microprocessor, D/A converter of 32 channels and a display device. Stimulation patterns are created from analytical results of integrated EMGs during motion in normal subjects and are stored in the stimulation data creating system as data files. And then the stimulation patterns are sent to the memory in the portable multichannel FES system through serial communication interfacing device. Sophisticated fine control of paralyzed extrimities was realized by transmitting multichannel stimulation patterns to percutaneous intramuscular electrodes, which stimulate the motor function of paralyzed muscle simultaneously. Advantages of this system are as follws: 1) It is possible to modify stimulation patterns in accordance with the patient's situation. 2) This system is small and light.

  • A novel current balancing technique for multichannel light-emitting diode (LED) that uses a series resonance and coupled inductor is proposed in this paper. The proposed LED driver balances output currents through frequency control and enables zero-voltage switching. The proposed converter utilizes the charge balance condition of the resonant capacitor and the current sharing function of the coupled inductor to achieve whole LED current balancing without an additional controller. The proposed coupled inductor can integrate the current balancing function and the resonant inductor, so the power density can be increased by reducing the number of magnetic devices. A 40 W prototype is built to verify the validity of this LED driver, and the experimental results are successfully obtained.

  • A basic multichannel analyser (MCA) system have been designed and constructed with the successive approximation type ADC (Analog to Digital Converter). Linear Gate, window, and palse stretcher consist of mainly linear and logic IC's, and are properly combined together to achieve short dead time and good linearity of the system. ADC 1211 (analysing time: $120{\mu}sec$) and S-RAM (static random acess memory) 6264 are used in ADC module. Two 6264 memories are connected in parallel in order to-provide enough counting capacity ($2^{16}-1$). Interfaced microcomputer Apple II controls this system and analizes the counted data. The system is tested by input pulses between 0V to 10V from oscillator.

Power Flow Control of Four Channel Resonant Step-Down Converters

  • This paper proposes a new power flow control method for soft-switched, four channel, five level resonant buck dc-dc converters. These converters have two input channels, which can be supplied from sources with identical or different voltages, and four output channels with arbitrary output voltages. They are specially designed to supply multilevel inverters. The design methodology for their power flow control has been developed considering a general case when the input voltages, output voltages and loads can be asymmetrical. A special emphasize is paid to the limitations and restrictions of operation. The theoretical studies are confirmed by numerical simulations and laboratory tests carried out at various operation points. Exploiting the advantages of the newly proposed power control strategy, the converter can supply five level inverters in dc microgrids, active filters, power factor correctors and electric drives. They can also play an interfacing role in renewable energy systems.

  • LED is divided to multichannel in order not to exceed a certain voltage in aspects of electric standard. However, it's not possible to know in accordance with what channel SMPS controls the constant voltage and current. In order to solve this problem, it needs to detect the maximum LED String voltage which is applied to LED control circuit, and it is possible to minimize the voltage drop when a difference of LED string voltage occurs by each channel if LED is controlled by the maximum LED string voltage detected. In addition, it is also possible to maximize the efficiency of LED if change LED voltage by detecting the maximum voltage. Feasibility of this claim was verified through implementation of the circuit.

Novel Single-inductor Multistring-independent Dimming LED Driver with Switched-capacitor Control Technique

  • Current imbalance is the main factor affecting the lifespan of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting systems and is generally solved by active or passive approaches. Given many new lighting applications, independent control is particularly important in achieving different levels of luminance. Existing passive and active approaches have their own limitations in current sharing and independent control, which bring new challenges to the design of LED drivers. In this work, a multichannel resonant converter based on switched-capacitor control (SCC) is proposed for solving this challenge. In the resonant network of the upper and lower half-bridges, SCC is used instead of fixed capacitance. Then, the individual current of the LED array is obtained through regulation of the effective capacitance of the SCC under a fixed switching frequency. In this manner, the complexity of the control unit of the circuit and the precision of the multichannel outputs are further improved. Finally, the superior performance of the proposed LED driver is verified by simulations and a 4-channel experimental prototype with a rated output power of 20 W.

  • A system using a personal computer has been developed for Polymerase Chain Reaction, an amplifying process of specific DNA. This system is composed of software and hardware which contains a control system, a heating and cooling system, a multichannel A/D converter, and a personal computor. The software is programmed'in assembly'and basic language. The newly developed PCR system which is controlled by the program of the personnal computor can be applied 1.o the amplification of various DNA. This system was tested by using Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA and showed the DNA band on the UV transilluminator.

  • This paper presents a design of a hybrid sensor chip which integrates an A/D converter module and a phase measurement module for measuring power line phase. Recursive sliding DFT based phase measurement module is designed using time shared multiplier which can reduce the size of SoC implementation. A/D converter is based on the sigma delta modulation in order to minimize the implementation space of the analog part and designed to obtain 8-bit resolution. Computer simulations and FPGA implementation are performed to verify hybrid sensor chip design. The hybrid sensor chip for 4-channel power line phase measurement is fabricated by using 0.35 micrometer CMOS process.

  • In this paper, we developed a multichannel acupuncture point balance measurement system that measures skin resistances at various acupuncture points to evaluate the balancing state of the meridian. The system consists of 16 channel resistance-voltage converter, signal processing part for signal amplification and filtering, A/D conversion part, micro-controller part, and data processing part. Compared to the previously developed 1 channel or 4 channel systems, it is found that the 16 channel system can measure the skin resistances of 16 acupuncture points, simultaneously, providing various clinical information such as balance and variation of the resistance value.

  • In this paper, a new Mac-wave detection system by strain gage is constructed for study on a Mac-wave which is major factor of diagnosis in oriental medicine. Inherent resistance of a strain gage is linearly changed with strain of the sensor, thus the Mac-wave of wrist can be detected by using of the strain gage. A precision bridge circuit and high sensitive amplifier is designed for detecting the change of resistance of the strain gage in this experiments. A very small change of Mac-wave is acquired in the circuit. And the digital signal of the detected Mac-wave are acquired on a PC by multichannel A/D converter and displayed graphically by programming. The characteristics of the Mac-wave of sampled 6 persons in the time and the frequency domain are analysed, therefore the usefulness of the system constructed in this experiments are proved.
