  • To improve the accuracy rate of guided weapons, many studies have been conducted on the accurate detection and identification of targets from sea clutter. Because of the variety and complicated characteristics of both sea-clutter and target signals, an active target recognition technique is required. In this study, we propose an algorithm to distinguish clutter and recognize targets by applying a fractal signature(FS) classifier, which is a fractal dimension, and a high-resolution target image(HRTI) classifier, which applies scene matching to an image formed from a scanned image. Simulation results using the algorithm revealed that the HRTI classifier recognized targets 1 and 2 at a 100 % rate, whereas the FS classifier recognized targets 1 and 2 at rates of 90 % and 93 %, respectively.

  • In this paper, we study the dry transfer technology utilizing PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) stamp of a large single-layer graphene grown on Cu-foil as catalytic metal by using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). By changing the surface property of the target substrate through $UV/O_3$ treatment, we can transfer the graphene on the target substrate while minimizing mechanical damages of graphene layer. Multi-layer (1~4 layers) graphene was stacked on $SiO_2/Si$ wafer successfully by repeating thetransfer method/process and then optical transmittance and sheet resistance of graphene layers have been measured as a quality assessment.

  • HANARO, a multi-purpose research reactor, 30 MWth open-tank-in-pool type, is planning to produce a fission moly-99 of radio isotopes, a mother nuclide of Tc-99m, a medical isotope and a target handling tool is under development for loading and unloading it in a circular flow tube (OR-5) of HANARO. A guide tube is extended from the reactor core to the top of the reactor chimney for easily loading the target under a normal operation of the reactor. But active coolant through the core can be quickly raised up to the top of the chimney through the guide tube. The jet flow was suppressed in the guide tube after reducing the inner diameter of a flow restriction orifice installed in the OR-5 flow tube for adding the pressure difference in the flow tube. This paper describes an analytical analysis to calculate the flow distribution in the core of HANARO after suppressing the jet flow of the guide tube. As results, it was confirmed through the analysis results that the flow distribution in the core of HANARO were not adversely affected.

  • Detecting small infrared targets from the low-SCR images at a long distance is very hard. The previous Local Contrast Method (LCM) algorithm based on the human visual system shows a superior performance of detecting small targets by a background suppression technique through local contrast measure. However, its slow processing speed due to the heavy multi-scale processing overhead is not suitable to a variety of real-time applications. This paper presents a lightweight real-time small target detection algorithm, called by the Improved Selective Local Contrast Method (ISLCM), to reduce the scale-invariant computational overhead. The proposed ISLCM applies the improved local contrast measure to the predicted selective region so that it may have a comparable detection performance as the previous LCM while guaranteeing low scale-invariant computational load by exploiting both adaptive scale estimation and small target feature feasibility. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce its computational overhead considerably while maintaining its detection performance compared with the previous LCM.

  • Constant false alarm rate (CFAR) is an automatic detection algorithm for active sonar system. Among several CFAR algorithms, ordered statistics (OS) CFAR has the best performance over cell averaging (CA), smallest of (SO), greatest of (GO) algorithms at non-homogeneous environments. However, OS CFAR has the disadvantage of bad detection performance in multiple target conditions. We suggest an ordered statistics ratio (OSR) CFAR algorithm that is robust to multiple target environments. The proposed and conventional schemes are compared with computer simulations.

  • In target tracking problems the fixed gain Kalman filter is primarily used to predict a target state vector. This filter, however, has a poor precision for maneuvering targets while it has a good performance for non-maneuvering targets. To overcome the problem this paper proposes the system which estimates the acceleration with neural networks using the input estimation technique. The ability to efficiently fuse information of different forms is one of the major capabilities of trained multi-layer neural networks. The primary motivation for employing neural networks in these applications comes from the efficiency with which more features can be utilized as inputs for estimating target maneuvers. The parallel processing capability of a properly trained neural network can permit fast processing of features to yield correct acceleration estimates. The features used as inputs can be extracted from the combinations of innovation data and heading changes, and for this we set the two dimensional model. The properly trained neural network system outputs the acceleration estimates and compensates for the primary Kalman filter. Finally the proposed system shows the optimum performance.

  • This paper proposes an acceleration method of PCA(Principal Component Analysis) based feature detection. The feature detection method makes decision whether the target feature is included in a given image, and if included, calculates the position and extent of the target feature. The position and scale of the target feature or face is not known previously, all the possible locations should be tested for various scales to detect the target. This is a search Problem in huge search space. This Paper proposes a fast face and feature detection method by reducing the search space using the multi-stage prediction map and contour Prediction map. A Proposed method compared to the existing whole search way, and it was able to reduce a computational complexity below 10% by experiment.

  • This study was to examine the characteristics of wirdbirds habitat for improvement plan in green corridor. The target site, Gangseo-gu artificial green corridor was set up with the structure in which small scale of core green space with Goongsan and Yeomchang neighborhood parks in urbanized city was connected with the artificial green space with Gongamnaru, Hwanggeumnae neighborhood parks with 28~42.5 m in width. Wild birds six~eleven species; Dendrocopos spp, Paradoxornis webbiana, Parus major, Phasianus colchicus, etc. were observed in core green, but wild birds of two~five species: Columba livuia, Passer montanus, Pica pica, Hypsipetes amaurotis, etc. were observed in artificial green space. Thus wild birds of artificial and generalist species only moved in artificial green space. The artificial green space where vegetation structure was consisted of single-layer with poorness chose target species laying stress on generalist species and edge species of Parus major, P. palustris, Paradoxornis webbiana etc. for short-term and interior species of Dendrocopos major, Picus canus, etc. for long-term. The result suggested enhancement methods for target species's habitat in green corridor: to secure at least a corridor 30 meters in artificial corridor, to secure ecological pond, to offer the various shelterer and environment of prey-resources through the multi-layer structure.

  • Trilateration technique using time of arrival(TOA) is generally used for single target position estimation in radar system. However, trilateration technique has limitation in case of multiple targets, since it is difficult to distinguish the measurements corresponding to the respective targets. In this study, to eliminate ambiguity of relation between measurements and targets, micromotion of each target is measured by micro Doppler which is actively studied in radar industry nowadays and these information are used to distinguish measurements used at trilateration technique. Resultingly, the trilateration technique is applied successfully for each target. The targets are considered as multiple submissiles separated from the missile. Simulation results shows the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Defense Systems Test Center in ADD supports increasingly various missile test requirements such as higher altitude event, multi target operation and low-altitude, high velocity target tracking. In this paper, we have proposed the development of instrumentation radar tracking status simulator based on virtual reality. This simulator can predict the tracking status and risk of failure using several modeling algorithms. It consists of target model, radar model, environment model and several algorithms includes the multipath interference effects. Simulation results show that the predict tracking status and signal are similar to the test results of the live flight test. This simulator predicts and analyze all of the status and critical parameters such as the optimal site location, servo response, optimal flight trajectory, LOS(Line of Sight). This simulator provides the mission plan with a powerful M&S tool to rehearse and analyze instrumentation tracking radar measurement plan for live flight test at DSTC(Defense Systems Test Center).
