  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is a distributed Sensor network whose terminals are sensors that can sense and check the environment. Sensors are typically battery-powered and deployed in where the batteries are difficult to replace. Therefore, maximize the consumption of node energy and extend the network's life cycle are the problems that must to face. Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is an adaptive clustering topology algorithm, which can make the nodes in the network consume energy in a relatively balanced way and prolong the network lifetime. In this paper, the novel multi-objective LEACH protocol is proposed, in order to solve the proposed protocol, we design a multi-objective coupling algorithm based on bat algorithm (BA), glowworm swarm optimization algorithm (GSO) and bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFO). The advantages of BA, GSO and BFO are inherited in the multi-objective coupling algorithm (MBGF), which is tested on ZDT and SCH benchmarks, the results are shown the MBGF is superior. Then the multi-objective coupling algorithm is applied in the multi-objective LEACH protocol, experimental results show that the multi-objective LEACH protocol can greatly reduce the energy consumption of the node and prolong the network life cycle.

  • This paper presents an analysis architecture of embedded operating systems for wireless sensor network. Wireless multi-hop sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing device. We expect sensor networks to be deployed in an ad hoc fashion, with very high energy constraints. These characteristics of multi-hop wireless sensor networks and applications motivate an operating system that is different from traditional embedded operating system. These days new wireless sensor network embedded operating system come out with some advances compared with previous ones. The analysis is focusing on understanding differences of dominant wireless sensor network OS, such as TinyOS 2.0 with TinyOS 1.x.

  • Wireless sensor network's value has increased greatly in recent years in the fields of Ubiquitous Computing that function as solution to reduce both the limitation and collision about RFID Technology. The research for wireless sensor network technology is proceeding with the research for various sensor nodes, powerful routing algorithms, securities for data transmission, and valid applications. This paper suggests that we make the new multi-hop routing algorithm using RSS in order to implement enhanced multi-hop routing algorithm. This paper should demonstrate that the routing algorithm using suggested RSS is superior to routing algorithm based on established BSDV(Destination Sequenced Distance Vector).

  • This paper reveals a distance estimation algorithm based on multi-code ultrasonic and wireless sensor network. For measuring the distances among the sensor nodes, each ultrasonic transmitter transmits multi-code ultrasonic signal simultaneously. Receivers use cross correlation method to separate the coded signals. The information of measured distances is broadcasted to each sensor node by wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network measures the distance among the sensor nodes using the received signal strength of the broadcasting. The multi-code ultrasonic have a limitation of measurable distance. And the received signal strength is affected from an environment. This paper measures a distance using ultrasonic and a received signal strength in short range. These measured data are applied to the least square estimation algorithm. By the expansion of the fitting curve, a distance measurement in long range using the received signal strength is compensated. The coupled system reduce the error to an acceptable level.

  • This paper proposes a medium-access control(MAC) protocol designed for wireless multi-hop sensor networks which is used for connecting physical world and cyber computing space. Wireless multi-hop sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing device. We expect sensor networks to be deployed in an ad hoc fashion, with nodes remaining inactive for long time, but becoming suddenly active when specific event is detected. These characteristics of multi-hop sensor networks and applications motivate a MAC that is different from traditional wireless MACs about power conservation scheme, such as IEEE 802.11. Proposed MAC uses a few techniques to reduce energy consumption. Result show that proposed MAC obtains more energy sayings.

  • In centralized control sensor network, tree-based multi-channel communication overcomes the recurrent channel switching and makes possible to transfer data simultaneously from different sources. In our paper, we propose a greedy algorithm named as NIT (Non-Intersecting Tree) that the trees can avoid inter-tree interference. We also propose channel switching technique by which trees can avoid link failure or area blocking due to external interference locally without rerunningthe algorithm and without interrupting the whole network. At first we applied our algorithm for a random topology and then we evaluate the performance of the network using NS-2 simulator. The results show that with the increasing of channel the throughputand delivery ratio are increased significantly. We got better performance than a using a recent proposed Tree-based Multi-Channel Protocol (TMCP).

  • Wireless Sensor Networks is applied to improvement of life convenience or service like U-City as well as environment pollution, tunnel and structural health monitoring, storm, and earthquake diagnostic system. To increase the usability of sensor data and applicability, mobile devices and their facilities allow the applications of sensor networks to give mobile users and actuators the results of event detection at anytime and anywhere. In this paper, we present MUSNEMO(Multi-sensor centric Ubiquitous Smart sensor NEtwork using Mobile devices) developed system for providing more efficient and valuable information services with a variety of mobile devices and network camera integrated to WSN. Our system is performed based on IEEE 802.15.4 protocol stack. To validate system usability, we built sensor network environments where were equipped with five application sensors such magnetic, photodiode, microphone, motion and vibration. We also built and tested proposed MUSNEMO to provide a novel model for event detection systems with mobile framework.

  • As the use of nuclear and radiation technologies increases, the importance of radiation safety and monitoring increases. In this study, we develop a nuclear facility monitoring system (NFMS) for rapid response to radiation accidents in nuclear material storage facilities; (1) multi-sensor network based on NaI(Tl) detector and FPGA-DAQ system and (2) an artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm for tracking radiation source location. Energy resolution and sensitivity of the detectors were evaluated to accurately track the location of radioactive materials and to identify nuclides using the multi-sensor network. To evaluate the localization accuracy of NFMS, a test storage facility was built and experiments were performed. Localization accuracy was obtained by analyzing the measured counts for each detector using an artificial intelligence (AI) based ANN algorithm, confirming an accuracy of over 99 %. The developed NFMS is expected to contribute to the safe management of radioactive materials in nuclear facilities.

  • Quick, accurate damage monitoring is strongly required for damage assessment in the aftermath of a large natural disaster. Wireless sensor networks are promising technologies to acquire damage information in a citywide area. The wireless sensor networks, however, would be faced with difficulty to collect data in real-time and to expand the scalability of the networks. This paper discusses a scheme of network architecture to cove a whole city in multi-tier heterogeneous networks, which consist of wireless sensor networks, access networks and a backbone network. We first review previous studies for citywide damage monitoring, and then discuss the feature of multi-tier heterogeneous networks to cover a citywide area.

  • In this paper, we present a multi-chain based hierarchical topology control algorithm (MCHTC) for wireless sensor networks. In this algorithm, the topology control process using static clustering is divided into sensing layer that is composed by sensor nodes and multi-hop data forwarding layer that is composed by leader nodes. The communication cost and residual energy of nodes are considered to organize nodes into a chain in each cluster, and leader nodes form a tree topology. Leader nodes are elected based on the residual energy and distance between themselves and the base station. Analysis and simulation results show that MCHTC outperforms LEACH, PEGASIS and IEEPB in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption and network energy balance.
