  • Recently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards have been charming increasing attention. In addition, the RFID card ensures high durability and ease of maintenance because it has no built-in contact. And the benefits of RFID cards over contact cards are primarily due to the increased transaction speed and convenience brought to the cardholder. In this paper, we have developed a RFID card reader for the multi-purpose applications. The vicinity card reader with large-screen to display user ID and card number for a kinds of applications such as entrance and attendance management system is suitable for the use with EM card and TEMIC card, featuring easy to mount and reliable quality. The read range of the proposed RFID card reader is 70cm. This paper also addresses current RFID technology in terms of systems and provides a look forward its future applications in the aviation environment using RFID smart card.

  • In RFID systems, one important issue is how to effectively address tag collision, which occurs when multiple tags reply simultaneously to a reader, so that all the tags are correctly identified. However, most existing anti-collision protocols assume isotropic collisions where a reader cannot detect any of the tags from the collided signals. In practice, this assumption turns out to be too pessimistic since the capture effect may take place, in which the reader considers the strongest signal as a successful transmission and the others as interference. In this case, the reader disregards the other collided tags, and in turn, fails to read the tag(s) with weaker signal(s). In this paper, we propose a capture effect-aware anti-collision protocol, called Multi-Round Collision Tree (MRCT) protocol, which efficiently identifies the tags in real RFID environments. MRCT deals with the capture effect as well as channel error by employing a multi-round based identification algorithm. We also analyze the performance of MRCT in terms of the number of slots required for identifying all tags. The simulation results show that MRCT significantly outperforms the existing protocol especially in a practical environment where the capture effect occurs.

  • The ubiquitous, which is developed for human's convenience, uses the concept of situation awareness that communicates with computer and performs a certain work without user's recognition. In order to collect the information of situation, many devices are required. Also, in the condition of ubiquitous middleware, priority is given to effective controls of various devices. There are many devices for collecting the information of situation awareness such as sensor, RFID, etc. Among them, in the use of RFID, the researcher performed the experiment, in which multiple readers were used depending on the necessity of awareness information, and found the problem of intervention between readers occurring when multiple readers are used. The paper handles the problem of intervention causing from using multiple readers and suggests middleware design module using session manager to solve the problem.

  • Being able to quickly locate valuable medical equipment is critical inside hospitals. In order to utilize limited budget and resources efficiently, accurate locating or tracking is required in many fields. In this research, we focus on how to find the location of missing assets by using RFID in real time indoors to track equipment. When equipment needs to be searched, the purpose of a RFID device is to minimize the time, investment cost and effort spent searching for the equipment. Thus, this research presents a mathematical model of using RFID (both handheld reader and stationary reader) for efficient asset location. We derive the expected time of locating RFID-tagged objects in a multi-area environment where hand-held RF readers are used. We then discuss where to deploy stationary RF readers in order to maximize the efficiency of the search process.

  • Community portraits can deeply explore the characteristics of community structures and describe the personalized knowledge needs of community users, which is of great practical significance for improving community recommendation services, as well as the accuracy of resource push. The current community portraits generally have the problems of weak perception of interest characteristics and low degree of integration of topic information. To resolve this problem, the reader community portrait method based on the thematic and timeliness characteristics of interest labels (UIT) is proposed. First, community opinion leaders are identified based on multi-feature calculations, and then the topic features of their texts are identified based on the LDA topic model. On this basis, a semantic mapping including "reader community-opinion leader-text content" was established. Second, the readers' interest similarity of the labels was dynamically updated, and two kinds of tag parameters were integrated, namely, the intensity of interest labels and the stability of interest labels. Finally, the similarity distance between the opinion leader and the topic of interest was calculated to obtain the dynamic interest set of the opinion leaders. Experimental analysis was conducted on real data from the Douban reading community. The experimental results show that the UIT has the highest average F value (0.551) compared to the state-of-the-art approaches, which indicates that the UIT has better performance in the smooth time dimension.

  • This is an example of ABSTRACT format. This study proposes a hypertension management system that implements a signal collision avoidance algorithm for RFID tags and enables accurate medical services for hypertension patients. The proposed system enables the mobile RFID reader to accurately recognize the RFID tag signals emitted from the patient by using OR logic. Moreover, the system adopts a multi-agent approach to provide and manage information on patient condition and automated medical service in a mobile environment.

  • In this study, we investigated the number of categories of veterinary medical devices registered by Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA) by 2013. We also analyzed the sales of the veterinary medical devices reported from Korea Animal Health Product Association (KAHPA) from 2011 to 2013. The registration rate of veterinary medical devices has sharply increased since 2008, and a total of 495 categories from 141 companies were registered by the end of 2013. The multi-frequency products registered for companion animals were ultrasound imaging system, x-ray system, microchip & reader, telemetry system transmitter, and hematology analyzer. The veterinary medical devices for farm animals include marker, artificial insemination catheter, injector, and ultrasound imaging system. Of these products, the multi-frequency products dominated on the veterinary medical devices market. The market size of 223 (45.0%) veterinary medical devices was estimated to be approximately 20.6 billion Won in 2013; the proportion of domestic products and imports was 56% to 44%; the proportion of domestic demand and export was 82% to 18%, respectively. This study suggested that the registration and sales of the veterinary medical devices have gradually increased as the demand of health care services got bigger in Korea.

  • According to the number of the books in the library growing dramatically, dealing with them becomes a serious problem. Especially Plenty of budgets have been consumedin arranging and keeping the books. To solve these confronted problems, RFID technology is researched in this thesis. By utilizing the mobile RFID readers, Book Management System which makes possible to reduce time and cost to input the information of locationand present situation of books in real time is developed. Moreover since the active tag which uses the 900 radio frequency band and mobile RFID reader are used, it is possible to achieve multi-recognizing system.
