다화자잡음이 말더듬의 비율과 말속도에 미치는 영향 (The Noise Effect on Stuttering and Overall Speech Rate: Multi-talker Babble Noise)

  • This study deals with how stuttering changes in its frequency in a situation where adult participants who stutter are exposed to one type of background noise, that is, multi-talker babble noise. Eight American English-speaking adults who stutter participated in this study. Each of the subjects read aloud sentences under each of three speaking conditions (i.e., typical solo reading (TSR), typical choral reading (TCR), and multi-talker babble noise reading (BNR)). Speech fluency was computed based on a percentage of syllables stuttered (%SS) and speaking rate was also assessed to examine if there was significant change in rates as a measure of vocal change under each of the speaking conditions. The study found that participants read more fluently both during BNR and during TCR than during TSR. The study also found that participants did not show significant changes in speaking rate across the three speaking conditions. Some discussion was provided in relation to the effect of multi-talker babble noise on the frequency of stuttering and its further speculation.

  • 의류 및 신발 등 패션잡화 매장관리 분야에서 RFID 기술을 적용하여 입출고, 재고관리 및 진품확인, 소비자접점형 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 기술적인 요구사항 분석이 반드시 필요하다. 특히, 인식거리와 복수인식률은 RFID를 도입하는 데 있어 가장 중요한 성능 지표이지만, 부착매질에 따라 태그의 고유 성능 변화가 발생하여 실제 도입현장에서 많은 애로사항으로 작용하고 있다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 다양한 조건별 인식거리 및 복수인식률 시험분석을 통해 신발에 삽입되는 RFID 태그의 현실적인 최소 성능 요구사항을 제시하였다.

  • This study was mainly aimed at investigating on the effects of background noises (i.e., white noise, multi-speaker conversational babble) on stuttering rate and other speech-related measures (i.e., articulation rate, speech effort). Nine Korean-speaking adults who stutter participated in the study. Each of the participants was asked to read a series of passages under each of four experimental conditions (i.e., typical solo reading (TR), choral reading (CR), reading under white noise presented (WR), reading with multi-speaker conversational babble presented (BR). Stuttering rate was computed based on a percentage of syllables stuttered (%SS) and articulation rate was also assessed as another speech-related measure under each of the experimental conditions. To examine the amount of physical effort needed to read, the speech effort was measured by using the 9-point Speech Effort Self Rating Scale originally employed by Ingham et al. (2006). Study results showed that there were no significant differences among each of the passage reading conditions in terms of stuttering rate, articulation rate, and speech effort. In conclusion, it can be argued that the two different types of background noises (i.e., white noise and multi-speaker conversational babble) are not different in the extent to which each of them enhances fluency of adults who stutter. Self ratings of speech effort may be also useful in measuring speech-related variables associated with vocal changes induced under each of the fluency enhancing conditions.

  • 능동형 RFID가 많은 응용 분야에서 활용되기 위해서 대용량의 태그 데이터를 보다 빠르고 효율적으로 보낼 필요성이 대두되고 있다. ISO/IEC 18000-7 표준은 433MHz대역을 사용하고 있으며 전송 속도는 27.8kbps에 불과하다. 이러한 전송속도는 대용량 데이터를 전송하기에 무리가 있다. 우리는 빠른 대용량 태그 데이터 전송을 위하여 2.4GHz대역을 사용하였고, 보다 효율적인 데이터 전송을 위하여 데이터 전송 프로토콜을 설계하였다. 우리가 설계한 프로토콜은 Burst Read UDB라는 새로운 명령어를 사용하여 255bytes이상의 메시지 데이터를 생성하고, 이를 효과적으로 전송할 수 있도록 이루어져 있다. 프로토콜을 구현하기 위하여 Texas Instruments사에서 개발한 Smart RF04 개발보드를 사용하였으며, 통신모듈로는 CC2500트랜시버를 이용하였다. 구현을 통한 비교실험에서 63.75kbytes의 데이터를 전송할 경우, 기존 표준의 Read UDB보다 Burst Read UDB가 17.95%의 데이터 전송시간이 향상되었음을 확인하였다.

  • This paper describes the design, fabrication, and measurement of ROIC(ReadOut Integrated Circuit) for $320{\times}256$ IRFPA(InfraRed Focal Plane Array). A ROIC plays an important role that transfer photocurrent generated in a detector device to thermal image system. Recently, the high performance and low power ROIC adding various functions is being required. According to this requirement, the design of ROIC focuses on 7MHz or more pixel rate, low power dissipation, anti-blooming, multi-channel output mode, image reversal, various windowing, and frame CDS(Correlated Double Sampling). The designed ROIC was fabricated using $0.6{\mu}m$ double-poly triple-metal Si CMOS process. ROIC function factors work normally, and the power dissipation of ROIC is 33mW and 90.5mW at 7.5MHz pixel rate in the 1-channel and 4-channel operation, respectively.

디스크 쓰기 성능 향상을 위한 가장자리 영역 트랙의 이용 (Using Outermost-Zone Tracks as a Cache to Boost Disk Write Performance)

  • Current disk systems are generally designed to reduce read traffic more effectively. Hence, write traffic of the I/O workload could potentially become a bottleneck of the disk system performance. In order to overcome this problem without much cost, this paper presents using outermost-zone track of multi-zoned recording disk as a secondary disk cache. The proposed disk cache improves the disk system performance by following exploitations: speed difference between block transfer and track transfer, difference in transfer rate between outermost-zone tracks and inner tracks, reduction in the seek time caused by decreasing the number of disk cache tracks, and idle period during burst accesses. In addition, it does not waste the disk space because it allocates the caching space by the cylinder unit. The simulation results show that the proposed system improves 2.54∼3.11 times better in terms of average response time for write operations than existing disk systems..

Speech Rhythm Metrics for Automatic Scoring of English Speech by Korean EFL Learners

  • Knowledge in linguistic rhythm of the target language plays a major role in foreign language proficiency. This study attempts to discover valid rhythm features that can be utilized in automatic assessment of non-native English pronunciation. Eight previously proposed and two novel rhythm metrics are investigated with 360 English read speech tokens obtained from 27 Korean learners and 9 native speakers. It is found that some of the speech-rate normalized interval measures and above-word level metrics are effective enough to be further applied for automatic scoring as they are significantly correlated with speakers' proficiency levels. It is also shown that metrics need to be dynamically selected depending upon the structure of target sentences. Results from a preliminary auto-scoring experiment through a Multi Regression analysis suggest that appropriate control of unexpected input utterances is also desirable for better performance.

RF 수신신호를 이용한 의료 초음파 영상개선에 관한 연구 (Image Improvement Techniques Using RF Data in Medical Ultrasound Imaging)

  • 본 논문에서는 일반적인 초음파 의료 영상 시스템에서 제공되는 단면 영상의 화질을 현저히 향상시킬 수 있는 영향 개선 기법들을 제안하였다. 제안된 기법들은 현재 대부분의 초음파 영상 시스템에 적용되는 접속기법과는 달리 한 프레임에 해당하는 RF 수신 신호들을 저장하고 합성구경 기법에 기반해서 수신신호들을 처리함으로써, 초음파 영상의 화질을 결정하는 주요 성능 변수인 해상도, 신호 대 잡음비, 주사속도 등을 개선시킬 수 있다. 제안된 기법들을 검증하기 위하여 RF 수신신호들을 저장할 수 있는 실험 장치를 제작한 후 실제 실험을 통하여 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 실험 결과 기존 시스템에 비해서 매우 우수한 영상을 얻을 수 있었으며, 시편 및 인체 데이터 경우에 모두 동일한 효과가 나타남을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Exome and genome sequencing for diagnosing patients with suspected rare genetic disease

  • Rare diseases, even though defined as fewer than 20,000 in South Korea, with over 8,000 rare Mendelian disorders having been identified, they collectively impact 6-8% of the global population. Many of the rare diseases pose significant challenges to patients, patients' families, and the healthcare system. The diagnostic journey for rare disease patients is often lengthy and arduous, hampered by the genetic diversity and phenotypic complexity of these conditions. With the advent of next-generation sequencing technology and clinical implementation of exome sequencing (ES) and genome sequencing (GS), the diagnostic rate for rare diseases is 25-50% depending on the disease category. It is also allowing more rapid new gene-disease association discovery and equipping us to practice precision medicine by offering tailored medical management plans, early intervention, family planning options. However, a substantial number of patients remain undiagnosed, and it could be due to several factors. Some may not have genetic disorders. Some may have disease-causing variants that are not detectable or interpretable by ES and GS. It's also possible that some patient might have a disease-causing variant in a gene that hasn't yet been linked to a disease. For patients who remain undiagnosed, reanalysis of existing data has shown promises in providing new molecular diagnoses achieved by new gene-disease associations, new variant discovery, and variant reclassification, leading to a 5-10% increase in the diagnostic rate. More advanced approach such as long-read sequencing, transcriptome sequencing and integration of multi-omics data may provide potential values in uncovering elusive genetic causes.

홀로그래픽 데이터 저장장치에서 2차원 심볼 간 간섭을 완화하기 위한 4-레벨 균형 변조부호 (4-Level Balanced Modulation Code for the Mitigation of Two-Dimensional Intersymbol Interference in Holographic Data-Storage Systems)

  • 홀로그래픽 데이터 저장 장치(HDSS)는 페이지 단위로 저장 매체의 체적에 데이터를 저장 및 판독하고 2차원으로 데이터를 처리하기 때문에 데이터 전송 속도 및 저장 용량이 증가한다. 게다가, 멀티레벨 HDSS는 한 픽셀에 한 비트이상을 저장할 수 있다. 하지만 2차원으로 페이지를 처리하므로 기존의 데이터 저장 시스템과 달리 2차원으로 인접한 심볼 간 간섭(ISI) 및 인접 페이지 간 간섭(IPI)가 발생한다. 기존에 발표된 논문들은 멀티레벨 HDSS 환경에서 2차원 ISI 완화에 관한 연구에 초점을 두었지만 멀티레벨 HDSS 환경에서 2차원 ISI와 IPI를 동시에 완화하는 연구는 진행되지 않았다. 본 논문에서는 2차원 ISI 및 IPI를 동시에 완화하는 4-레벨 균형 변조부호를 제안하였다.
