In this work, a multi-block/multi-partitioning method is suggested for a multi-block parallelization. It has an advantage of uniform load balance via subdividing of each block on each processor. To make a comparison of parallel efficiency according to domain decomposition method, a multi-block/single-partitioning and a multi-block/ multi-partitioning methods are applied to the flow analysis solver. The multi-block/ multi-partitioning method has more satisfactory parallel efficiency because of optimized load balancing. Finally, it has applied to the CFDS code. As a result, the computing speed with sixteen processors is over twelve times faster than that of sequential solver.

An important technique used by database administrators (DBAs) is to improve performance in decision-support workloads associated with a Star schema is multi-level partitioning. Queries will then benefit from performance improvements via partition elimination, due to constraints on queries expressed on the dimension tables. As the task of multi-level partitioning can be overwhelming for a DBA we are proposing a wizard that facilitates the task by calculating a partitioning scheme for a particular workload. The system resides completely on a client and interacts with the costing estimation subsystem of the query optimizer via an API over the network, thereby eliminating any need to make changes to the optimizer. In addition, since only cost estimates are needed the wizard overhead is very low. By using a greedy algorithm for search space enumeration over the query predicates in the workload the wizard is efficient with worst-case polynomial complexity. The technology proposed can be applied to any clustering or partitioning scheme in any database management system that provides an interface to the query optimizer. Applied to the Teradata database the technology provides recommendations that outperform a human expert's solution as measured by the total execution time of the workload. We also demonstrate the scalability of our approach when the fact table (and workload) size increases.

Most works done so far have concentrated on developing data modeling techniques such as multi-level relation for data protection. These techniques, however, cannot be applied to practical area. This is because they require new queries or new architectures. In this paper, we propose a query processing technique for multi-level databases using horizontal partitioning and views, which does not need any change in database architecture and query language.
The era of multi-core processors has begun since the limit of the clock speed has been reached. These days, multi-core technology is used not only in desktops, servers, and table PCs, but also in smartphones. In this architecture, there is always interference between processes, because of the sharing of system resources. To address this problem, cache partitioning is used, which can be roughly divided into two types: software and hardware cache partitioning. When it comes to dynamic cache partitioning, hardware cache partitioning is superior to software cache partitioning, because it needs no page copy. In this paper, we compare the effectiveness of hardware and software cache partitioning on the AMD Opteron 6282 SE, which is the only commodity processor providing hardware cache partitioning, to see whether this technique can be effectively deployed in dynamic environments.

This paper generalizes the concept of the signal space detection to construct a fixed delay tree search (FDTS) detector which estimates a block of n channel symbols at a time. This technique is applicable to high speed implementation. Two approaches are discussed both of which are based on efficient signal space partitioning. In the first approach, symbol detection is performed based on a multi-class partitioning of the signal space. This approach is a generalization of binary symbol detection based on a two-class pattern classification. In the second approach, binary signal detection is combined with a look-ahead technique, resulting in a highly parallel detector architecture.

In this paper, we proposed the compression technique of the video data using SPIHT(set partitioning in hierarchical trees) based on wavelet and the multi-stream delivery method for best-effort service as fully utilizing the clients bandwidth over the current Internet. The experiment shows that the proposed method provides about 1.5dB better picture quality without block effects than DCT(discrete consine transform) based coding schemes at the same bit rates because of using the wavelet video coder. In addition, this technique implements the multi-stream transmission based on TCP(transmission control protocol). Thus, it is provided with the best-efforts service which is robust to the network jitter problem, and maximally utilizes the bandwidth of the client's.
In company with the demand of powerful processing units for embedded systems, the method to develop embedded software is also required to support the demand in new approach. In order to improve the resource utilization and system performance, software modeling techniques have to consider the features of hardware architecture. This paper proposes a partitioning technique of UML-based software models, which focus the generation of the allocatable software components into multiprocessor architecture. Our partitioning technique, at first, transforms UML models to CBCFGs(Constraint-Based Control Flow Graphs), and then slices the CBCFGs with consideration of parallelism and data dependency. We believe that our proposition gives practical applicability in the areas of platform specific modeling and performance estimation in model-driven embedded software development.
An embedded system is called a multi-mode embedded system if it performs multiple applications by dynamically reconfiguring the system functionality. Further, the embedded system is called a multi-mode multi-task embedded system if it additionally supports multiple tasks to be executed in a mode. In this Paper, we address a HW/SW partitioning problem, that is, HW/SW partitioning of multi-mode multi-task embedded applications with timing constraints of tasks. The objective of the optimization problem is to find a minimal total system cost of allocation/mapping of processing resources to functional modules in tasks together with a schedule that satisfies the timing constraints. The key success of solving the problem is closely related to the degree of the amount of utilization of the potential parallelism among the executions of modules. However, due to an inherently excessively large search space of the parallelism, and to make the task of schedulabilty analysis easy, the prior HW/SW partitioning methods have not been able to fully exploit the potential parallel execution of modules. To overcome the limitation, we propose a set of comprehensive HW/SW partitioning techniques which solve the three subproblems of the partitioning problem simultaneously: (1) allocation of processing resources, (2) mapping the processing resources to the modules in tasks, and (3) determining an execution schedule of modules. Specifically, based on a precise measurement on the parallel execution and schedulability of modules, we develop a stepwise refinement partitioning technique for single-mode multi-task applications. The proposed techniques is then extended to solve the HW/SW partitioning problem of multi-mode multi-task applications. From experiments with a set of real-life applications, it is shown that the proposed techniques are able to reduce the implementation cost by 19.0% and 17.0% for single- and multi-mode multi-task applications over that by the conventional method, respectively.
In this paper, a new algorithm has been presented that helps to preserve diversity as well as to enhance the convergence speed of the evolutionary programming. This algorithm is based on the cell partitioning of search region for preserving the diversity. Until now, the greater part of researches is not concerned about preserving the diversity of individuals in a population but improving convergence speed. Although these evolutions are started from multi-point search at the early phase, but at the end those search points are swarming about a one-point, the strong candidate. These evolutions vary from the original idea in some points such as multi-point search. In most case we want to find the only one point of the best solution not several points in the vicinity of that. That is why the cell partitioning of search region has been used. By restricting the search area of each individual, the diversity of individual in solution space is preserved and the convergence speed is enhanced. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm has been verified through benchmark test functions.
A semi analytical method is employed to analyze free vibration characteristics of uniform and stepped functionally graded circular cylindrical shells under complex boundary conditions. The analytical model is established based on multi-segment partitioning strategy and first-order shear deformation theory. The displacement functions are handled by unified Jacobi polynomials and Fourier series. In order to obtain continuous conditions and satisfy complex boundary conditions, the penalty method about spring technique is adopted. The solutions about free vibration behavior of functionally graded circular cylindrical shells were obtained by approach of Rayleigh-Ritz. To confirm the dependability and validity of present approach, numerical verifications and convergence studies are conducted on functionally graded cylindrical shells under various influencing factors such as boundaries, spring parameters et al. The present method apparently has rapid convergence ability and excellent stability, and the results of the paper are closely agreed with those obtained by FEM and published literatures.
