  • This paper is focused on the optimum design for decreasing volume and increasing reliability of multi-stage gear drive. For the optimization on volume and reliability, multi-objective optimization is used. The genetic algorithm is introduced to multi-objective optimization method and it is used to develop the optimum design program using exterior penalty function method to solve the complicated subject conditions. A 5 staged gear drive(geared motor) is chosen to compare the result of developed optimum design method with the existing design. Each of the volume objective, reliability objective, and volume-reliability multi-objectives are performed and compared with existing design. As a result, optimum solutions are produced, which decrease volume and increase reliability. It is shown that the developed design method is good for multi-stage gear drive design.

  • In this paper, a convenient scheme for solving multi-objective optimization problems including fuzzy information in both objective functions and constraints is presented. At first, a multi-objective problem is converted into single objective problem based on the norm method, and a merbership function is constructed by selecting its type and providing the parameters defined by the norm method. Finally, this fuzzy programming problem is converted into an ordinary optimization problem which can be solved by usual nonlinear programming techniques. With this scheme, a designer can conveniently obtain pareto optimal solutions of a fuzzy system only by providing some parameters corresponding to the importance of the objectiv functions. Proposed scheme is simple and efficient in treating multi-objective fuzzy systems compared with and method by with membership function value is provided interactively. To show the validity of the scheme, a simple 3-bar truss example and optimal cutting problem are solved, and the results show that the scheme is very useful and easy to treat multi-objective fuzzy systems.

  • In this article, we presents multi-objective design optimization of laminated composite beam using Fuzzy programming method. At first, the two design objectives are minimizing the structural weight and maximizing the buckling load respectively. Fuzzy multi-optimization problem can be formulated based on results of single optimizations. Due to different relative importance of design objectives, membership functions are constructed by adding exponential parameters for different objective's weights. Finite element analysis of composite beam for buckling behavior are carried by Natural mode method proposed by J.Argyris and computational time of analysis can be reduced. With this scheme, a designer can conveniently obtain a compromise optimal solution of a multi-objective optimization problem only by providing some exponential parameters corresponding to the importance of the objective functions.

  • In order to guide users to select the most optimal access network in heterogeneous wireless networks, a network selection algorithm is proposed which is designed based on multi-objective discrete particle swarm optimization (Multi-Objective Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization, MODPSO). The proposed algorithm keeps fast convergence speed and strong adaptability features of the particle swarm optimization. In addition, it updates an elite set to achieve multi-objective decision-making. Meanwhile, a mutation operator is adopted to make the algorithm converge to the global optimal. Simulation results show that compared to the single-objective algorithm, the proposed algorithm can obtain the optimal combination performance and take into account both the network state and the user preferences.

  • Laidback fan shaped film-cooling hole is formulated numerically and optimized with the help of three-dimensional numerical analysis, surrogate methods, and the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. As Pareto optimal front produces a set of optimal solutions, the trends of objective functions with design variables are predicted by hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. The problem is defined by four geometric design variables, the injection angle of the hole, the lateral expansion angle of the diffuser, the forward expansion angle of the hole, and the ratio of the length to the diameter of the hole, to maximize the film-cooling effectiveness compromising with the aerodynamic loss. The objective function values are numerically evaluated through Reynolds- averaged Navier-Stokes analysis at the designs that are selected through the Latin hypercube sampling method. Using these numerical simulation results, the Response Surface Approximation model are constructed for each objective function and a hybrid multi-objective evolutionary algorithm is applied to obtain the Pareto optimal front. The clustered points from Pareto optimal front were evaluated by flow analysis. These designs give enhanced objective function values in comparison with the experimental designs.

  • This study investigates the multi-objective fuzzy optimization of crowbar resistance for the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). By integrating the crowbar resistance of the crowbar circuit as a decision variable, a multi-objective model for crowbar resistance value optimization has been established to minimize rotor overcurrent and to simultaneously reduce the DFIG reactive power absorbed from the grid during the process of LVRT. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is applied to solve this optimization problem. In the proposed GA, the value of the crowbar resistance is represented by floating-point numbers in the GA population. The MOGA emphasizes the non-dominated solutions and simultaneously maintains diversity in the non-dominated solutions. A fuzzy-set-theory-based is employed to obtain the best solution. The proposed approach has been evaluated on a 3 MW DFIG LVRT. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving the crowbar resistance multi-objective optimization problem in the DFIG LVRT.

  • The aim of this research is to develop the Bees Algorithm named 'the dynamic allocated Bees Algorithm' for multi-objective problem, especially in order to be suit for Pareto optimality. In addition two new neighbourhood search methods have been developed to produce enhanced solutions for a multi-objective problem named 'random selection neighbourhood search' and 'weighted sum neighbourhood search' and they were compared with the basic neighbourhood search in the dynamic allocated Bees Algorithm. They were successfully applied to an Environmental/Economic (electric power) dispatch (EED) problem and simulation results presented for the standard IEEE 30-bus system and they were compared to those obtained using other approaches. The comparison shows the superiority of the proposed dynamic allocated Bees Algorithms and confirms its suitability for solving the multi-objective EED problem.

  • In this paper, an improved multi-objective optimmum design method is proposed. And it is applied to steel frames under seismic loads. The multi-objective optimization problem is formulated with three optimality criteria, namely, minimum structural weight and maximum strain energy and stability. The Pareto curve can be obtained by performing the multi-objective optimization for multistory shear buildings. In order to efficiently solve the multi-objective optimization problem the decomposition method that separates both system-level and element-level is used. In addition, various techniques such as effective reanalysis technique with respect to intermediate variables and sensitivity analysis using an automatic differentiation (AD) we incorporated. Moreover, the relationship function among section properties induced from the profile is used in order to link system-level and element level. From the results of numerical investigation, it may be stated that the proposed method will lead to the more rational design compared with the conventional one.

  • The multicast routing problem lies in the composition of a multicast routing tree including a source node and multiple destinations. There is a trade-off relationship between cost and delay, and the multicast routing problem of optimizing these two conditions at the same time is a difficult problem to solve and it belongs to a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is efficient to solve MOOP. A micro-genetic algorithm(${\mu}GA$) is a genetic algorithm with a very small population and a reinitialization process, and it is faster than a simple genetic algorithm (SGA). We propose a multi-objective micro-genetic algorithm (MO${\mu}GA$) that combines a MOGA and a ${\mu}GA$ to find optimal solutions (Pareto optimal solutions) of multicast routing problems. Computational results of a MO${\mu}GA$ show fast convergence and give better solutions for the same amount of computation than a MOGA.

  • Recently, Multi-Objective Optimization of design elements is an important issue in building design. Design variables that considering the specificities of the different environments should use the appropriate algorithm on optimization process. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the optimal solution using three evolutionary algorithms and energy modeling simulation. This paper consists of three steps: i)Developing three evolutionary algorithm model for optimization of design elements ; ii) Conducting Multi-Objective Optimization based on the developed model ; iii) Conducting comparative analysis of the optimal solution from each of the algorithms. Including Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Random Search were used for optimization. Each algorithm showed similar range of result data. However, the execution speed of the optimization using the algorithm was shown a difference. NSGA-II showed the fastest execution speed. Moreover, the most optimal solution distribution is derived from NSGA-II.
