The present investigation is designed to provide basic information on fine structure of the skin of the sea bass, Lateolabrax japonicks in relation to study of epidermal change with environmental and physiological change. The skin of the sea bass is divided into the epidermal layer and dermal layer. Epidermal layer consists of supporting cells and unicellular glands. The supporting cells were classified into the superficial cell, intermediated cell and basal cell. Gland cells were classified into the mucous secretory cell and club cell which is more frequently observed. Superficial cell of epidermal layer is squamous or cuboidal and contains well-developed rough endoplasmic reticulum and the surface is covered with numerous microridges. Superficial cells are connected to another cell with membrane interdigitations and desmosomes. Intermediated cell is ovoid and the electron density is higher than the other supporting cells. Basal cell is cuboidal and has a well-developed mitochondria and membrane interdigitation. The mucous secretory cell has a numerous membrane bounded secretory granules. The cytoplasm of club cell is divided into cortex and medullar. The medullar cytoplasm has a nucleus, intracellular organelles and central vacuole, and the cortical cytoplasm has a well-developed tonofilament. Club cells are connected to another cell with well -developed membrane interdigitations and desmosomes.
Morphological and histochemical characteristics of the cells in posterior tentacle antenna of Korean slug, Incilaria fruhstorferi were observed with light microscope. The epithelium of the posterior tentacle antenna was composed of supporting cells, sensory neurons and type-a clear cell. The columnar supporting epithelium was widely distributed in the posterior tentacle antenna, and the upper end of the cell was covered with acidic mucopolysaccharide. Nerve endings of the sensory neuron were distributed between type-a clear cells. It was usually located in tentacular knob, and the number of them gradually decrdased as close as tentacular stalk. Several cilia were observed on the nerve ending. Type-a clear cells were very brightly stained with all staining used, and the neutral mucous guanules distributed in the cytoplasm. Collar cells, type-b clear cell and various types of secrdtory cells distributed in the connective tissue. The collar cells were clustering in connective tissue, and the cytoplasm were filled with neutral mucous guanules. The cells and granules were stained with dark brown by silver nitrate stain. Type-b clear cells were irregular in shape and their cytoplasms were brightly stained wth many stains used. Ten types of secretory cells evenly distributed in the connective tissue and muscle layers of the posterior tentacle antenna. The five types of the secretory cells(A, B, E, J and L)seemed to secrete acidic mucopolysaccharide, and the other five type of the cell(C, D, F, H, and L)seemed to secrete neutral mucopolysaccharide. Muscular tissue composed of well-developed thick longitudinal muscle layers and thin circular muscle layers. Type-L secretory cells clustered only in muscular layers and they contained acidic mucopolysaccharides.
Integumentary structures of the rockfish, Sebastiscus tertius were examined by means of the light and transmission electron microscopy. Stratified epidermal layer consists of supporting cells, unicellular glands, granular cells and mitochondria-rich cells. The epidermal layer could be classified into superficial, intermediate and basal layer by morphology and structure of the supporting cells. Mucous cells of unicellular gland were observed in the superficial and intermediate layer of the epidermis. The mucous materials were identified as acidic and carboxylated mucosubstance by histochemical methods. Club cell has well-developed central vacuole, rough endoplasmic reticula and Golgi complex in the cytoplasm. Granular cells were observed in the superficial layer and contained numerous granules of high electron density. Mitochondria-rich cells are characterized by well-developed microfilaments in cortex and numerous tubular mitochondria in medullar cytoplasm. Three types of pigment cells in the dermal layer could be distinguished with electron density of cytoplasmic inclusions.
This study is observed the skin of the parrot fish, Oplegnathus fasciatus that related study of epidermal alternation with environmental and physiological change. It composed of supporting cells, unicellular glands and accessory cells. The supporting cells are classified into superficial cell, intermediated cell and basal cell. Superficial cell of epidermal layer is squamous or cuboidal and contain nucleus of ovoid type. And its free surface has many microridge which covered with glycocalyx. Intermediated cell is ovoid and has a nucleus of round shape. Basal cell is columnar, and nucleus is situated in the upper cytoplasm. Gland cells are classified into mucous cell and club cell. By the histochemical studies of the epidermal secretions the mucous materials react on blue in ABPAS (pH 2.5). Club cell is observed numerous vacuoles and microfilaments in the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm of chloride cells are occupied with numerous mitochondria. Pigment cells are classified into two type. The one contain pigment granules of electron dense, and the other contain reflecting platelets.
The histochemical characteristics of the cutaneous granular glands and its fine structure of the Korean fire bellied toad, Bombino orientalis Boulenger the only species inhabitated in Korea, were studied with light and electron microscopes. By the granular size and histochemical properties, the granular glands were subdivided into two types. The type I glands have small secretory granules (3.6 $\mu$ m), whereas the type II glands contain relatively larger granules (7.5 $\mu$ m). These two types of glands were simple alveolar gland, and they were commonly composed of inner glandular epithelial cells and outermost myoepithelial cells. By the histochemical reactions, these two secretory granules were not responsed to Alcian blue, but weakly positive reaction was observed in type I granular glands by the PAS reaction. And by the scanning electron microscopic observation, extemal morphology of the opening site of the gland duct was resembled to the stomata of the plant leaves. Especially the epithelial cells of the type I glands had fine reticular surface whereas, type II glands had large vesicular surface. These types of the glands conimonly had larger cavities than those of mucous glands, and forming the multinucleated unicellulr structure (syncytium) at the glandular epithelial layers. Secretory granules of these glands were originated from the rough endoplasmic reticulum of the glandular epithelial cells, and by the maturation level of the granule, morphological diversities appeared.
The effect of N-Nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA) on the glycoconjugates of rat lingual salivary gland was examined by prelectin histochemical methods. Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 250-300g were divided into control and experimental groups. Each rat of experimental groups was administrated NDMA(17mg/kg) orally and sacrificed in 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours after NDMA administration. The regional differences and change of glycoco-njugates were elucidated by prelectin histochemical methods, such as periodic acid Schiff's(PAS) reaction, alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5, AB pH 0.4, AB pH 2.5-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin(AF) pH 1.7-AB pH 2.5 and high iron diamine(HID)-AB pH 2.5 staining. The major morphological changes in the von Ebner’s gland of NDMA administrated groups were withering and des-truction of serous acini, diminution and disappearance of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolation in cytoplasm of serous cells, and mucinous changes of duct epithelial cells. These changes were noted in NDMA administrated groups for 12 to 72 hours. In the lingual mucous gland of NDMA administrated groups, the major morphological changes were enlargement, fusion and destruction of mucous acini, loss of cytoplasmic granules and vacuolated generation in cytop-lasm of mucous cells, and mucinous change of duct epithelial cells. These changes were severe in NDMA administra-ted groups for 12 to 72 hours. In NDMA administrated groups of lingual von Ebner's gland for 12 and 72 hours, the neutral glycoconjugates be-come diminished remarkably compared to the control group. The decreased amount of neutral glycoconjugates tended to be gradually recovered from 96 hours group. The acidic glycoconjugates which were not detected in control group were found in a few serous cells of these gland of NDMA administrated groups for 6 to 48 hours and 120 ho-urs. The remarkable decrease of neutral and acidic glycoconjugates was observed in the lingual mucous glands 3, 24 and 48 hours after NDMA administration, and the striking decrease of acidic glycoconjugates was found in 72 hours groups. Among acidic glycoconjugates, sulfated glycoconjugates tended to decrease in NDMA administrated groups for 72 hours, while sialic glycoconjugates were increased in NDMA administrated groups for 3, 12 and 48 hours.

This study was performed to determine alleviating effects of green tea (GT) on the N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) toxicity to mucins in the rat lingual salivary glands. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups: untreated (Control), one week-NDMA administrated (NDMA), one week-GT administrated after NDMA for one week (NDMAGT), one week-NDMA administrated with GT (GTNDMA), and one-week NDMA administrated with GT after GT for one week (GTGTNDMA). The mucin properties were elucidated by periodic acid Schiff (PAS) reaction, alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5, AB pH 2.5-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin (AF) pH 1.7-AB pH 2.5, and high iron diamine (HID)-AB pH 2.5 staining. The lingual von Ebner's glands of NDMA group showed some changes such as contraction and destruction of the serous acini, decrease and disappearance of the cytoplasmic granules, vacuolation of cytoplasm, and the mucigenous duct cells. Also, in the lingual mucous glands, enlarged lumens, fused acini, disappearance of granules, vacuolation of cytoplasm, and mucigenous duct cells were observed. All the GT administrated groups had a tendency to recover. GTGTNDMA group recovered almost up to the state of the control group. The lingual von Ebner's glands of NDMA group showed a decrease of neutral mucin and the lingual mucous glands showed a decrease of both neutral and acidic mucins decreased in comparison with control group, although mucous acini secreting strong sulfomucin decreased while those secreting non-sulfomucin (sialomucin) increased. All the GT administrated groups had a tendency to recover. The degree of recovery in the GTNDMA group was stronger than in NDMAGT group and that of the GTGTNDMA group was almost up to the state of the control group. Plus, lingual von Ebner's glands of GTGTNDMA group contained much more neutral mucin than in the control group. In conclusion, it is suggested that NDMA exhibit the toxicity which affects on the mucin properties and which green tea alleviates.

This study was described the microscopic anatomy of male reproductive organs and spermatophore necessary for understanding the reproductive ecology of the long arm octopus Octopus minor. The long arm octopus was a species that has sexual dimorphism that can distinguish between sex based on the presence of hectocotylus. Male reproductive organs consisted of testis, primary spermatic duct, spermatic gland, secondary spermatic duct, spermatophoric gland and spermatophoric sac. Histologically, the testis was testicular tubule type and male germ cells showed a layered arrangement. The primary spermatic duct was a tube connecting the testis and spermatic gland, and consisted with epithelial layer and connective tissue. The spermatic gland was located between the primary and secondary spermatic duct, and the epithelial layer was composed of epithelial cells and mucous cells. Mucous cells reacted blue in the AB-PAS (pH 2.5) reaction and purple in the AF-AB (pH 2.5) reaction. The secondary spermatic duct was a short tube connecting spermatic gland and spermatophoric gland, and folds were developed in lumen. The spermatophoric gland consisted of numerous tubular glands and secretory cells had eosinophilic granules. The spermatophoric sac was shape of pouch, folds were developed in lumen, and vacuolar secretory cells were present in the epithelial layer. The spermatophore was 83.5 mm long and consisted of cap thread in anterior portion, ejaculatory apparatus and cement body in medial portion, sperm mass in posterior portion.
The digestive tract of the rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli composed of pharynx, esophagus, stomach, intestine, anus and ten or eleven pyloric caeca. Pyloric caeca is blind sac of banana shape, and that is originated from pyloric portion of the stomach. The relative length of gut(RLG), that is length of digestive tract to standard length, is about 1.56(n=10). Esophageal muscularis consists of thin outer layer of longitudinal muscle and thick inner layer of circular muscle. Mucosal epithelium consists of columnar epithelium with short microvilli and contains numerous mucous secretory cell. The mucosal folds of the stomach are regular, and the muscularis consists of longitudinal, oblique and circular muscle layer. The chief cell of the gastric gland have a tubular mitochondria, endoplasmic reticula and numerous secretory granules in electron-dense. However, parietal cell contains small mitochondria, endoplasmic reticula and vacuoles in low electron density. Mucosal epithelium of the pyloric caeca and intestine composed of columnar epithelium, goblet cell, rodlet cell and dark cell. Columnar absorptive cell in the pyloric caeca and intestine contains well developed mitochondria, endoplasmic reticula, vesiculated granules in high electron density, pinocytotic vesicles and multivesicular body. Rodlet cell have a well developed cytoplasmic capsule and the endoplasmic reticula in the cytoplasm. Dark cell showing a high electron density in the cytoplasm and contains well developed mitochondria. Columnar epithelium of the intestine have a well developed intercellular junction and the microvilli which contains actin filament originated from the cytoplasm. Mucosal epithelium of the intestine have a longer microvilli and more abundant goblet cells than in the pyloric caeca.
Amyloodinium sp. was found on the gills of mullet (Mugil cephalus) cultured on land. No external symptoms in the diseased fish were found except decoloration of the gills. In fresh preparations of the gills the parasites were opaque round or oval shape with a bright nucleus and 43.5 ㎛ (18.2~72.7, n=20) in size. In preparations added a drop of Lugol solution, they were black with the same shapes in fresh preparations and 43.5 ㎛ (n=20) in size. The parasites were stained black and blue in a droplet of Lugol solution and Diff-Quick III solution, respectively and their sizes were a little larger than in wet preparations. After stained with May-Grunwald Giemsa, the parasites appeared granular eosinophlic in the peripheral cytoplasm and granular strong basophilic in the center. In silver impregnated specimens the peripheral granules were negative and the central ones positive. The granules appeared brown in purplish cytoplasm after staining with Lugol solution. The parasites developed by binary division when they were cultivated in filtered seawater at 20℃. Histopathologically severe epithelial hyperplasia and fusion in the gill filaments resulted in clubbing, especially the proximal region of the filament. Epithelial hyperplasia was also found in the basal regions of the gill filaments and some epithelial cells were occasionally detached from the filaments. Some pear-shaped trophonts of the parasites with rhizoid attached on the gill filaments showing hyperplasia of the epithelial cells and mucous cells.
