  • The larvae of the ark shell Anadare broughtoni(Schrenck) were grown at room temporature (approximately $20.4^{\circ}C$), and fed laboratory-cultured Cyclotella nana. The egg of the ark shell produced in the laboratory measured about $54.9\mu$ in diameter. The embryos gradually developed into larvae up to $110.8\mu$ shell length, $83.9\mu$ shell height and with shell breadth of $58.2\mu$ even in the absence of the algal food. Beyond this sire, however, the growth of the larvae was considerably retarded. The larvae showed better growth rate when they were fed the algal food two days after spawning, i. e., early straight-hinge stage. Daily rate of food consumption varies according to the larval sizes. But the rate increases considerably when the larvae begin to form umbos. In general the rate Is indicated by the following formula: $Y=0.0025161\;X^{2.76459}$. The growth experiments of the larvae indicate that the efficiency of food conversion was higher when fed centrifuged food. Regarding to the difference in the slopes of growth curve, centrifuged food showed better growth rate as compared to those grown with the non-centrifuged food. The smaller the larval size, the greater will be the difference in growth. The larvae began settling when they reathed 261.7 to $289.6\;{\mu}$ in shell length, 199.2 to $221.7\mu$ in shell height and 147.6 to $170.8\mu$ in shell breadth. The time which elapsed from spawning to the larval settlement was about 28 days. The mean growth of the larvae is indicated with regression line and exponential curve equations as follows. • The present study was performed to identify the relationship between plasminogen activator (PA) and Heat Shock Protein-90 (HSP-90) in porcine uterus tissues during the estrous cycle. Porcine uterus tissues were obtained from preovulatory (Pre-Ov), post-ovulatory (Post-Ov) and early to mid-luteal (Early-mid L) stages. The protein was extracted from uterus tissue by using M-PER Mammalian Protein Extraction Reagent. Proteins were refined by RIPA Buffer and quantified by BCA methods. As results, t-PA expression was significantly (p<0.05) higher from pre-ovulatory(Epithelium tissue: $29,067{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $30,797{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) compared to the post-ovulatory stage(Epithelium tissue: $54,357{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $53,270{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) and early to mid-luteal stage(Epithelium tissue: $42,380{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $43,139{\mu}g/{\mu}l$). On the other hand, the uPA expression indicated higher from early to mid-luteal stage (Epithelium tissue: $0.02198{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $0.02412{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) than pre-ovulatory stage (Epithelium tissue: $0.01577{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $0.01531{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) and post-ovulatory stage(Epithelium tissue: $0.01414{\mu}g/{\mu}l$, Myometrium tissue: $0.01429{\mu}g/{\mu}l$). However, expression of u-PA did not differ from each estrous cycle in the epithelium tissue and myometrium tissue(p<0.05). Expression of HSP-90 was differ t-PA and u-PA from pre-ovulatory in Epithelium tissue($25,423{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) and early to mid-luteal stage in epithelium tissue($177,922{\mu}g/{\mu}l$) and myometrium tissue($26,664{\mu}g/{\mu}l$). These results suggest that HSP-90 and u-PA were related with change of uterus cycle according to the reformation of the tissues in porcine uterus.

  • Let D be a plane domain whose boundary consists of n components and $C_1$, $C_2$ two boundary components of D. We consider the family $F_1$ of conformal mappings f satisfying f(D) $\subset$ {1 < |w| < ${\mu}(f)$}, $f(C_1)=\{|w|=1\}$, $f(C_2)=\{|w|={\mu}(f)\}$. There are conformal mappings $g_0$, $g_1({\in}F_1)$ onto a radial and a circular slit annulus respectively. We obtain the following theorem, $$\{{\mu}(f)|f\;{\in}\;F_1\}=\{\mu|\mu(g_1)\;{\leq}\;{\mu}\;{\leq}\;{\mu}(g_0)\}$$. And we consider the family $F_n$ of conformal mappings $\tilde{f}$ from D onto a covering surfaces of the Riemann sphere satisfying some conditions. We obtain the following theorems, {$\mu|1$ < ${\mu}\;{\leq}\;{\mu}(g_1)$} ${\subset}\;\{{\mu}(\tilde{f})|\tilde{f}\;{\in}\;F_2\}\;{\subset}\;\{{\mu}(\tilde{f})|\tilde{f}\;{\in}\;F_n\}$ and ${\mu}(\tilde{f})\;{\leq}\;{\mu}(g_0)^n$.

  • In the flip chip interconnection on organic substrates using eutectic Pb/Sn solder bumps highly reliable Under Bump Metallurgy (UBM) is required to maintain adhesion and solder wettability. Various UBM systems such as 1$\mu$m Al/0.2$\mu$m Pd/1$\mu$m Cu, laid under eutectic Pb/Sn solder were investigated with regard to their interfacial reactions and adhesion proper-ties. The effects of numbers of solder reflow and aging time on the growth of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) and on the solder ball shear strength were investigated. Good ball shear strength was obtained with 1$\mu$m Al/0.2$\mu$m Ti/5$\mu$m Cu and 1$\mu$m Al/0.2$\mu$m ni/1$\mu$m Cu even after 4 solder reflows or 7 day aging at 15$0^{\circ}C$. In contrast 1$\mu$m Al/0.2$\mu$m Ti/1$\mu$m Cu and 1$\mu$mAl/0.2$\mu$m Pd/1$\mu$m 쳐 show poor ball shear strength. The decrease of the shear strength was mainly due to the direct contact between solder and nonwettable metal such as Ti and Al resulting in a delamination. In this case thin 1$\mu$m Cu and 0.2$\mu$m Pd diffusion barrier layer were completely consumed by Cu-Sn and pd-Sn reaction.

  • In order to study basic information on the developed electro-magnetic compass, experiments were carried out on board M. S. KAYA at the pier of Dong Kuk Steel Mill in Pusan and the Korean southern sea using a three-axis magnetic sensor from Jan. 21, 1995 to Feb. 14, 1996. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The amount of old metal on the pier was about 27,290tons~57,440tons with an average of 40,560tons, the artificial local disturbance at the pier was min. 27.1$\mu$T, max. 66.5$\mu$T, ave. 433$\mu$T for the horizontal component and min. -27.0$\mu$T, max. 45.1$\mu$T, ave. 3.7$\mu$T for the vertical component. Its direction of horizontal component was 305$^{\circ}$ with the ship's head up bearing at 225$^{\circ}$. 2. The ship's magnetic distribution on the starboard side on berthing at the pier was 17.4$\mu$T for the horizontal component and -6.2$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the ship's port side, it was 19.8$\mu$T for the horizontal component and 4.1$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the ship's starboard side at sea, the ship's magnetic distribution was 19.2$\mu$T for the horizontal component and 3.2$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the ship's port side, the readings were 22.0$\mu$T for the horizontal component and -1.8$\mu$T for the vertical component. The directions of these readings were nearly starboard side. 3. On the pier, the secular change of the artificial local disturbance decreased 8.3$\mu$T from 61.0$\mu$T to 52.7$\mu$T for the horizontal component and decreased 7.1$\mu$T from 8.9$\mu$T M 1.8$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the starboard side from its berth, the ship, s magnetic distribution increased 2.6$\mu$T from 14.8$\mu$T to 17.4$\mu$T for the horizontal component and increased -0.1$\mu$T from -6.1$\mu$T to -6.2$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the ship's port side from its berth, it increased 7.1$\mu$T from 12.7$\mu$T to 19.8$\mu$T for the horizontal component and increased 10.2$\mu$T from -6.1$\mu$T to 4.1$\mu$T for the vertical component. 4. While at sea, on the ship's starboard side, the Secular change of the ship's magnetic distribution increased 3.9$\mu$T from 15.3$\mu$T to 19.2$\mu$T for the horizontal component and increased 2.0$\mu$T from -5.2$\mu$T to -3.2$\mu$T for the vertical component. On the port side, the changes increased 11.4$\mu$T from 10.6$\mu$T to 22.0$\mu$T for the horizontal component and increased 4.9$\mu$T from -6.7$\mu$T to -1.8$\mu$T for the vertical component. Upon berthing at the pier, the deviation of the secular change increased westerly 1 degree W~ 2.5$^{\circ}$ W from 3.5$^{\circ}$ W~ 5$^{\circ}$ W M 6W with the ship's head up bearing at 225$^{\circ}$. While at sea, these increased westerly 2$^{\circ}$ ~ 3$^{\circ}$ from the Northeast to the South and increased easterly 1$^{\circ}$ ~ 8$^{\circ}$ from the Southwest to the North. 5. While at port, within 1 mile between the ship and berth of the pier, as we approached the pier, the westerly deviation increased and when we departed the pier easterly deviation increased. When approaching the pier, the deviation was smaller than the deviation when the ship was departing from the pier. When approaching the bearing at 225$^{\circ}$ with the ship's head up bearing, the varies of deviation was smaller than the varies when the ship's head up bearing was departing from it.

  • In the present study two sets of unbalanced two-way cross-classification data with and without empty cell(s) were used to evaluate empirically the various sums of squares in the analysis of variance table. Searle(1977) and Searle et.al.(1981) developed a method of computing R($\alpha$\mid$\mu, \beta$) and R($\beta$\mid$\mu, \alpha$) by the use of partitioned matrix of X'X for the model of no interaction, interchanging the columns of X in order of $\alpha, \mu, \beta$ and accordingly the elements in b. An alternative way of computing R($\alpha$\mid$\mu, \beta$), R($\beta$\mid$\mu, \alpha$) and R($\gamma$\mid$\mu, \alpha, \beta$) without interchanging the columns of X has been found by means of,$(X'X)^-$ derived, using $W_2 = Z_2Z_2-Z_2Z_1(Z_1Z_1)^-Z_1Z_2$. It is true that $R(\alpha$\mid$\mu,\beta,\gamma)\Sigma = SSA_W and R(\beta$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\gamma)\Sigma = SSB_W$ where $SSA_W$ and means analysis and $R(\gamma$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\beta) = R(\gamma$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\beta)\Sigma$ for the data without empty cell, but not for the data with empty cell(s). It is also noticed that for the datd with empty cells under W - restrictions $R(\alpha$\mid$\mu,\beta,\gamma)_W = R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W - R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W = R(\alpha$\mid$\mu) and R(\beta$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\gamma)_W = R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W - R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W = R(\beta$\mid$\mu) but R(\gamma$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\beta)_W = R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W - R(\mu,\alpha,\beta,\gamma)_W \neq R(\gamma$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\beta)$. The hypotheses $H_o : K' b = 0$ commonly tested were examined in the relation with the corresponding sums of squares for $R(\alpha$\mid$\mu), R(\beta$\mid$\mu), R(\alpha$\mid$\mu,\beta), R(\beta$\mid$\mu,\alpha), R(\alpha$\mid$\mu,\beta,\gamma), R(\beta$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\gamma), and R(\gamma$\mid$\mu,\alpha,\beta)$ under the restrictions.

  • Ambroxol is thought to have antioxidant ability and some antiinflammatory effect. Effect of ambroxol on the oxidative damages of lipid, collagen and hyaluronic acid was examined. F $e_{2+}$(10 $\mu$M) and 100$\mu$Mascorbate-induced lipid peroxidation of liver microsomes was inhibited by 10 and 100$\mu$M ambroxol, 30$\mu$g/ml catalase and 10 mM DABCO but was not affected by 30$\mu$g/ml SOD and 10 mM DMSO. A 10 and 100$\mu$M ambroxol and 10 mM DABCO inhibited the peroxidative action of 10$\mu$M F $e_{3+}$, 160$\mu$M ADP and 100$\mu$M NADPH on microsomal lipids, whereas inhibitory effects of 30$\mu$g/ml SOD,30$\mu$g/ml catalase and 10 mM DMSO were not detected. The degradation of hyaluronic acid caused by 107M Fe2\\`,5007M H2O2 and 100$\mu$M ascorbate was inhibited by 10 and 100$\mu$M ambroxol,30$\mu$g/ml catalase,10 mM DMSO and 10 mM DABCO, while 30$\mu$g/ml SOD did not show any effect. The cartilage collagen degradation caused by 307$\mu$ F $e_{2+}$,500$\mu$M $H_2O$$_2$ and 200$\mu$M ascorbate was prevented by 100$\mu$M ambroxol. $H_2O$$_2$ and OH . were scavenged by ambroxol, whereas $O_2$, was not removed by it. Ambroxol (100$\mu$M) and 1 mM cysteine reduced DPPH to 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine. In conclusion, ambroxol may inhibit the oxidative damages of lipid, hyaluronic acid and collagen by its scavenging action on oxidants, such as OH . and probably iron-oxygen complexes and exert antioxidant ability.
