Interface between Robot and Scanner for Remote Laser Welding System Based on Time Synchronization (시간 동기화에 근거한 리모트 레이저 용접 시스템에서의 로봇과 스캐너 인터페이싱)

  • Remote laser beam welding (RLW) has the benefits of high speed and high quality welding, especially as applied to automotive industry. RLW is designed in a way that end effecter and head of scanner move simultaneously, and require the compensation for the motion of end effecter in order to weld proper position. In this paper, we show the algorithms of RLW that enable the end effecter to synchronize with scanner based on time. The proposed method consists of two algorithms. These algorithms make it possible for the moving end effecter to weld on desired place. The effectiveness of the algorithms is shown by experiments.

A Study on a Visual Sensor System for Weld Seam Tracking in Robotic GMA Welding (GMA 용접로봇용 용접선 시각 추적 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we constructed a preview-sensing visual sensor system for weld seam tracking in real time in GMA welding. A sensor part consists of a CCD camera, a band-pass filter, a diode laser system with a cylindrical lens, and a vision board for inter frame process. We used a commercialized robot system which includes a GMA welding machine. To extract the weld seam we used a inter frame process in vision board from that we could remove the noise due to the spatters and fume in the image. Since the image was very reasonable by using the inter frame process, we could use the simplest way to extract the weld seam from the image, such as first differential and central difference method. Also we used a moving average method to the successive position data of weld seam for reducing the data fluctuation. In experiment the developed robot system with visual sensor could be able to track a most popular weld seam, such as a fillet-joint, a V-groove, and a lap-joint of which weld seam include planar and height directional variation.

  • A skid-steering method which applied to the various mobile robot platforms currently shows its effectiveness in the specified field areas and purposes. This system contains however, several problems of its intrinsic properties such as slippages occurred by different moving direction between vehicle's driving and wheel's rotary and difficulties of driving performance control and so on. This paper deals with the suggestion of suitable control algorithm for 6WD/6WS skid steering wheeled vehicle and verified its feasibility by analyzing the behavior of 6WD/6WS skid-steered wheeled vehicle model and by applying the engineering analytical method to the considered mobile platform. The Performance of vehicle model is evaluated by using slip mode control to follow the steering input and, as a future work, this control algorithm could be applied to real 6WD/6WS in-wheel drive type vehicle finally.

  • The attachment of mobile vehicle is necessary for the automated operation on the inclined or vertical walls of steel structures. Since the vehicle requires attaching devices additionally, its overall efficiency can be reduced by the devices. Therefore, external shapes of mobile vehicles have to be researched to give the effective movement on the vertical face. For the design of mobile vehicle, the guideline has been derived from the modeling of wall-climbing, so that the vehicle should have a specific external shape for vertical movement due to the gravitational force. Hence, some adequate arrangement of attaching device to the mobile vehicle has been presented for the effective movement. In the experiments with four permanent magnetic wheels, a plausible result was achieved as a vertical attaching force of 185.2(N), a friction force of 153.8(N) and a curvature radius of 1.4m. The mobile vehicle should be modified according to the proposed design guideline. and then it could be applied to a specific operation as an appropriate external shape. Also, Further research is recommended on an optimal posture and a moving method in a specific application. as the attaching force ortho vehicle can be affected by its posture.

Arc/Line Segments-based SLAM by Updating Accumulated Sensor Data (누적 센서 데이터 갱신을 이용한 아크/라인 세그먼트 기반 SLAM)

  • This paper presents arc/line segments-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) by updating accumulated laser sensor data with a mobile robot moving in an unknown environment. For each scan, the sensor data in the set are stored by a small constant number of parameters that can recover the necessary information contained in the raw data of the group. The arc and line segments are then extracted according to different limit values, but based on the same parameters. If two segments, whether they are homogenous features or not, from two scans are matched successfully, the new segment is extracted from the union set with combined data information obtained by means of summing the equivalent parameters of these two sets, not combining the features directly. The covariance matrixes of the segments are also updated and calculated synchronously employing the same parameters. The experiment results obtained in an irregular indoor environment show the good performance of the proposed method.

Minimum-Time Trajectory Planning for a Robot Manipulator amid Obstacles (로봇팔의 장애물 중에서의 시간 최소화 궤도 계획)

  • This paper presents a numerical method of the minimum-time trajectory planning for a robot manipulator amid obstacles. Each joint displacement is represented by the linear combination of the finite-term quintic B-splines which are the known functions of the path parameter. The time is represented by the linear function of the same path parameter. Since the geometric path is not fixed and the time is linear to the path parameter, the coefficients of the splines and the time-scale factor span a finite-dimensional vector space, a point in which uniquely represents the manipulator motion. The displacement, the velocity and the acceleration conditions at the starting and the goal positions are transformed into the linear equality constraints on the coefficients of the splines, which reduce the dimension of the vector space. The optimization is performed in the reduced vector space using nonlinear programming. The total moving time is the main performance index which should be minimized. The constraints on the actuator forces and that of the obstacle-avoidance, together with sufficiently large weighting coefficients, are included in the augmented performance index. In the numerical implementation, the minimum-time motion is obtained for a planar 3-1ink manipulator amid several rectangular obstacles without simplifying any dynamic or geometric models.

Multi-robot Formation based on Object Tracking Method using Fisheye Images (어안 영상을 이용한 물체 추적 기반의 한 멀티로봇의 대형 제어)

  • This paper proposes a novel formation algorithm of identical robots based on object tracking method using omni-directional images obtained through fisheye lenses which are mounted on the robots. Conventional formation methods of multi-robots often use stereo vision system or vision system with reflector instead of general purpose camera which has small angle of view to enlarge view angle of camera. In addition, to make up the lack of image information on the environment, robots share the information on their positions through communication. The proposed system estimates the region of robots using SURF in fisheye images that have $360^{\circ}$ of image information without merging images. The whole system controls formation of robots based on moving directions and velocities of robots which can be obtained by applying Lucas-Kanade Optical Flow Estimation for the estimated region of robots. We confirmed the reliability of the proposed formation control strategy for multi-robots through both simulation and experiment.

An Algorithm of the Robot Control Using Image Feature Value (화상 특징량을 이용한 로봇제어 알고리즘)

  • To cope actively with the changes of external environments, it is necessary that a robot should have visual feedback control (VFC) using image informations. A VFC system consists of a manipulator and camera(s). For the fixed visual system, when feature value are located at the same line, we have a problem of singular value unable to be controlled by VFC. As a solution, we may define state values of the image Jacobians, then, by making comparisons and evaluations of feature values, select available ones. This method, however, has a demerit increasing numbers of feature values. To solve the problem, moving cameras of VFC system actively, we suggest an algorithm which dose not cause singular value, and prove its availability through simulations.

  • $A^*$ algorithm is a global path generation algorithm, and typically create a path using only the distance information. Therefore along the path, a moving vehicle is usually not be considered by driving characteristics. Deceleration at the corner is one of the driving characteristics of the vehicle. In this paper, considering this characteristic, a new evaluation function based path algorithm is proposed to decrease the number of driving path corner, in order to reduce the driving cost, such as driving time, fuel consumption and so on. Also the potential field method is applied for driving of UGV, which is robust against static and dynamic obstacle environment during following the generated path of the mobile robot under. The driving time and path following test was occurred by experiments based on a pseudo UGV, mobile robot in downscaled UGV's maximum and driving speed in corner. The experiment results were confirmed that the driving time by the proposed algorithm was decreased comparing with the results from $A^*$ algorithm.

  • This paper presents implementation details of home appliance control system using personal communicator based on LN2440 single board computer, which recognizes hand-gesture of user, controls remote moving device such as mobile home server, robot etc. through delivery of proper control commands. Also, this paper includes details of design and implementation of home gateway and mobile home server. The implemented prototype can be utilized to develop various remote control system including a remote exploration robot, intelligent wheelchair based on general purpose embedded system.
