  • The purpose of this study was to develop a caregiver's uniform that is appropriate for nursing and to improve movement adaptability as well as having a pleasing appearance. Based on the results of preliminary study, I investigated the inconvenience and problems with the existing uniforms and made a sample uniform taking into consideration the design, the material, and the pattern. We carried out a sensory assessment and quantitative assessment in order to compare the sample uniform with existing uniforms. Following are the results of this research. The top is a short-sleeved blouse with a round neckline having no collar and with armpit gussets. The armpit gussets are semicircles and the inverted pleats in the back are an improvement designed for activity. The pants are long reaching to the ankles with elastic in the waist so that the waist measurement may be adjusted. The length of the pants can be adjusted with strings and the pants have a funnel-shaped pocket for adjustment of length. We used a mix of polyurethane and polyester for the outer cloth of the uniform in order to improve activity function and used $Coolever^{TM}$, the sanitary textile that absorbs moisture well and dries in a short time, for gussets in the armpits, which is the heavy sweat area. The appearance assessment and movement adaptability assessment were performed with 5 subjects and 9 experts. For the results of the assessment, the sample uniform was appraised to be better than the existing uniforms in every item of an appearance comparison assessment except for the neckline assessment by the experts. As for the assessment of movement appropriateness and wearing assessment, the same subjects were used for analysis. As the results of the assessment, the sample uniform was rated higher than the existing uniforms in movement adaptability and pleasing appearance.

  • This study focused on the movement adaptability of $19^{th}$ century classical opera stage costumes. Researchers focused on a basic $19^{th}$ century women's jacket. The study analyzed movement adaptability using ROM (range-of-motion) tests of the upper limb flexion and abduction postures. It developed two research garments to mimic basic $19^{th}$ century style jackets with or without gussets at the axilla. The ROM experiment identified the gusset size as 11cm in length. Experimental postures included upper limb flexion and abduction. The study measured subjective comfort at 8 postures. These postures included the flexion and abduction of the arms and torso. Subjects also evaluated the subjective comfort of the rotation posture of the torso. Researchers evaluated the similarities between research garments' silhouettes and the $19^{th}$ century women's jacket. The study used a 3D virtual fitting system to evaluate fit, and specialists further analyzed fit with photographs and 3D virtual graphics. The results are as follows. The silhouettes of both research garments were similar to the silhouettes of the $19^{th}$ century western women's jacket. The jacket with axilla gusset had a better fit than the basic style jacket. The basic style jacket without the axilla gusset showed limited movement adaptability at the shoulder joint and it caused discomfort at the axilla and elbow. The 3D virtual fit test was not a suitable method for analyzing silhouette similarity.

  • The 3-D information is useful as basic data which has been utilized in the development of simulating technology as fit-simulation. The experiment is designed to take some useful data on the variant shapes which contribute in simulating the adaptability of the clothes. The general figure of the clothes are made after the figure of the basic standing posture of the human body. The shape of the clothes fits with kinetic characteristic of the human body as the form of the clothes gets twisted, the ease of the clothes changes, and the clothes itself expands. We studied the dressed shapes of blouse according to two types of the arm movement(basic posture and reach forward) and three types of clothes(foundation, blouse with short sleeves and sleeveless) in the sit-down-posture. We accomplished some experimental data on three-dimensional measurement of the dressing shapes using TDS-3100 3-D scanner made in Japan PULSTECH. It is considered that the variant of shapes and distribution of gaps in the dressed shapes of blouse are determined by the adaptability of clothes made in arm movement.

Based on the questionnaires, the prototype focused on the pockets for practical use and movement adaptability. Functional pockets were made by increasing pocket sizes and separating pockets with sections according to use. An inside pocket and a loop for an identification tag was placed on the chest pocket and the side seam pocket were oblique lined. To resolve horizontal stress on the back of the gown,6 cm action pleats were added at both ends of the bladebone. The elbow area was tucked up to improve the workplace activities. To reduce hamper on the gown hemline, slits were added along the gown side seam. The front button was changed into an inside button closure. The cuffs, belt, and back waist belt were removed due to occupational cases of inconvenience. The length of the sleeves was adjusted with belts to improve the movement of the arms. In accordance with design preference, the gown was designed to be knee-length with wrist length sleeves. Blue colored (2.5PB 3/12: by Munsell) material was inserted to reduce the contamination on the neck, cuffs, front closure, and hemline area. The planning cloth of the experimental gown was designed to improve activity function, cleaning, and comfort from light materials. The field test (with 30 doctors at university hospitals and the objective assessment with 9 subject groups)were done by the valuation between the existing gown and the prototype. The results showed that the prototype had to be modified by decreasing the pocket size, expanding the usage of the penholder, and simplify front pockets in order to maintain unity. The loop for the identification tag, inside pocket, and the blue colored material had to be removed. The front closure of the gown had to return to its original state.

  • The experiment is designed to create some useful data on the dressed shapes that contribute to simulating the adaptability of clothes. We studied the dressed shapes of blouse with above-elbow sleeves and sleeveless according to five types of arm movement (basic posture, reach forward 45, 90, and reach lateral 45, 90) in the stand-posture. Experiments were conducted to understand the dressed shape through 3-D measurement Vivid 910 and to investigate the width, depth, area distribution and gap of the shape of blouses on the section map with a software program for 3-D shape analysis, Rapid Form 2004. The Data were analyzed by factor analysis. The results of this study are as follows: The ratio of depth per width in the stand-posture was lower than other arm movements and the reach lateral was higher than the reach forward. The gap of the upper body was a briefed 4 factor; front, front-side, back, and back-side. It was higher than the sleeveless with a change of the gap in the dressed blouse with above-elbow sleeves by arm movements per stand-posture. The divisional gap shows the adaptability of clothes according to the types of blouse and arm movements in the change of the ratio.
