  • Several sensor systems are used to estimate and predict the slope behaviors, however though slope sensing systems are much up-to-dated compared to before, they are mainly focused on the hardware developing. It means the analyzing software is deficient to apply the examining slope behavior for slope stability. In real case, slope behavior shows the 3-dimensional movement and failure; however the modeling methods for 3-D behavior are more difficult and need more variables. 1-D analysis shows only the length variation, however the real slope makes the 3-D behaviors. To fix the 3-D space coordinate, three values should be determined such as length, horizontal angle and vertical angle. Therefore if the 3-D coordinate system were composed by the points considered of two directions and length, the 3-D space could be separated into horizontal plane and vertical plane. The data from DY-slope in Chungbuk province was analyzed to the developed 3-D coordinate system. It is concluded from the results of 3-D analysis, the slope is generally moving to transverse direction, also the displacements are happening to road and vertical direction at the same time. Presently, the accumulated displacement between sensing points shows small value within 4.3 cm, and the displacements of all sensing points show the similar directions and magnitudes.

  • Activity-based models analyze individuals' various daily activities that are identified as a decision-making unit for transportation planning. In other words, it is the model that determines the types of activities according to the social, economic and situational characteristics of the groups with the same activity patterns and predicts individuals' activity time, distance, spatial movement and transportation mode. The activity-based model is a method of estimating more efficient and realistic demand in transportation forecasting because traffic is regarded as a complex decision-making process that an individual and other people participate in. In this paper, we grasp the factors affecting choice behavior of activity pattern and analyze choice behavior of activity pattern based on multi-dimensional characteristic of each person. First, we classify activity types of reviewing the trip chain and activity purpose. Next, we identified preferable activity types using complicated characteristics of main agent of activity. We concluded that choice behavior of activity pattern is dependent on complex characteristics of each agent, and further multi-dimensional characteristics of each person are affected over the whole decision process of activity schedule.

  • Conventional numerical analysis for rainfall-induced slope stability has been estimated by separating seepage and stress-strain behavior, respectively. Many researchers' models from commercial softwares and literatures define that partially saturated permeability is the only function of degree of saturation (or matrix suction) and then they do not consider hydraulic-mechanical characteristics for the analysis. However, in practice, the water flow processes in a deformable soil are influenced by soil skeleton movement and the pore water pressure changed due to seepage will lead to changes in stress and to deformation of a soil. The relationship between seepage and soil behavior causes a change of partially saturated permeability as well as saturated permeability with the lapse of time. Instability of partially saturated soil slopes due to infiltration would be analyzed from reduction of negative pore water pressure calculating the process of water flow based on predicted partially saturated permeability. Therefore, partially saturated permeability should be defined by the function of degree of saturation (or matric suction) and porosity. The paper presents the comparison between staggered and monolithic coupled analysis regarding seepage and stress deformation problems. As a result, the decrease in matric suction on soil slope from monolithic analysis is slower than that from staggered analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and complications of two oral sedative regimens, chloral hydrate (60mg/kg)/hydroxyzine(25mg) versus midazolam(1mg/kg)/meperidine(1mg/kg) for the sedation of pediatric dental patients. Fifteen patients(mean age 36.2months, range 24-47months), ASA Class I or II, who needed at least two restorative dental procedures were selected in this double-blind, randomized study. All subjects were randomly assigned to receive either chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine or midazolam/meperidine and 50% $N_2O/O_2$ was administered at each appointment. Behavior assessment(sleep, movement, crying, overall behavior) was made using Houpt Sedation Rating Scale and physiologic parameters(pulse rate, oxygen saturation) were monitored using pulse oximeter. The incidence of hypoxia($SpO_2$ 90% or less, at least 10s duration) and vomiting was recorded. Patients sedated with chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine showed significantly better overall behavior score than patients sedated with midazolam/meperidine. There was no clinically significant difference in the incidence of hypoxia and vomiting. It was concluded that oral administration of chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine is more effective than midazolam/meperidine for the sedation of pediatric dental patients.

  • Consistent with a previous study on the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens (BPH) (Seo et al., 2009), we identified seven distinct EPG waveforms (np, L1, L2, L3, L4-a, L4-b, and L5) in adult female Laodelphax striatellus (SBPH) that fed on rice plants, by using the direct current electrical penetration graph (DC-EPG) system. The shape of waveforms and the pattern of occurrence of each waveform of SBPH were very similar to those of BPH. L3 and L4-a always occurred prior to L4-b. Periodical honeydew excretion was observed in L4-b only. Microsection observation following laser stylectomy revealed that the tips of SBPH stylets severed in L3, L4-a, and L4-b were commonly located in or near the phloem region of rice plants, but were located in the xylem in L5. Plant sap flowed from the stylets severed in L4-b only, and its main carbohydrate component was detected as sucrose by HPLC analysis. These results and the patterns of EPG waveform progress in SBPH suggested that feeding activities on rice plant tissue were relevant to each EPG waveform. L1 and L2 corresponded to the initiation of stylet penetration and stylet movement with salivation on the outside of the vascular bundle. L3 and L4-a were related to feeding activities within the phloem region in preparation for phloem sap ingestion. L4-b was closely associated with phloem sap ingestion, and L5 corresponded to xylem feeding behavior.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the effects of dithiopyr (DTP), a herbicide, on behavior in zebrafish. The toxicity of DTP has rarely been investigated in fish. In the present study, zebrafish were exposed to different concentrations of DTP in the range of 10-20 μM for 48 h in a test container, in order to measure the value of median lethal concentrations (LC50). Behavioral experiments were performed, including the novel tank test (NTT) and the open field test (OFT), to assess stress responses or locomotion. After exposure to the DTP solution at a sublethal concentration of 2.5–10 μM for 6 min, the behavior of the zebrafish was observed for 6 min. In the acute toxicity test, the LC50 value of DTP showed as 14.49 μM in the zebrafish. The NTT showed that the duration of immobility and the velocity were significantly increased by exposure at a concentration of 5 μM of DTP, compared with a control group (p<0.05). However, compared with the control group, DTP significantly decreased the distance moved and the frequency at the top of the tank, and significantly increased the turn angle and duration at the bottom, in a concentration-dependent manner (p<0.05). In addition, in the OFT, exposure to DTP significantly decreased the distance moved and velocity compared with the control group (p<0.05). Exposure to DTP also significantly increased the duration of immobility, the turn angle, and the meandering movement, in a concentration-dependent manner (p<0.05). Further, exposure to DTP at a low concentration elevated whole-body cortisol levels in the zebrafish. The results of this study thus suggest that DTP induces a toxic response and negative effects on behavior and the endocrine system in zebrafish.

  • The user behaviors in the parks around the commercial area may have different characteristics in comparison with the behaviors in typical neighborhood parks because they may be affected by nearby commercial facilities. The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of park users'behavior considering adjacent environments in the neighborhood parks located in central business district of Daegu and to suggest improvements and complements for the construction of new parks and remodeling current parks. According to the results, the land values were high and the percentage of deteriorated buildings was low around Gukchae Reward Movement Memorial Park and 2.28 Central Memorial Park. However, the commercial facilities were entirely declined along with a drop in land values around Gyeongsang-gamyeong Park and old people used this park more than young people. In terms of the purpose of park use, users of three parks had indirect behavior patterns related near commercial facilities rather than using directly park facilities and the age groups of park users were similar to the user groups of nearby commercial facilities. Also, the determinant factors of satisfaction with park use were varied depending on the difference of age groups of park users and park characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the effects of user age groups according to the changes of environment around parks for the construction and organization of parks.

  • The movement of deterioration agents such as a chloride ion, etc. in concrete varies with loading conditions and micro-structure developed by age effect. In this paper, the carbonation behavior by accelerated carbonation test is evaluated considering curing periods(28 days, 91 days, and 365 days) and loading conditions. Carbonation velocity coefficients are obtained referred to KS F 2584. In the control case without loading condition, carbonation velocity coefficient of 91 days decreases to 50.0 % level and that of 365 days decreases to 44.8 % level than that of 28 days curing condition. In 28 curing days, carbonation velocity coefficients changed level of 103.9 ~ 108.8 % in tensile region and 91.9~104.6 % in compressive region by loading conditions. Carbonation velocity coefficients in the 30 % and 60 % tensile loading case at 28 days decreases to 47.3 % and 52.5 % level compared to control case after 1 year. Furthermore, 45.8 % and 44.9 % level of carbonation velocity coefficients are evaluated for 30 % and 60 % compressive loading conditions compared to control case after 1 year. Carbonation velocity coefficient decreases in the 30 % compressive loading level due to effective pore compaction and it increases afterwards due to micro-cracking. In the tensile loading condition, unlike the behavior of compressive region, it linearly increases with increasing loading level.

  • Heuristic is a empirical method that is used quickly when uncertainty or insufficient time and information are insufficient. The purpose of this study is to find out what heuristics appear in the processing of the experimental manual among science experiment activities of elementary school students. To do this, 20 fifth-grade elementary school students (female 10 and male 10) were required to conduct scientific experimental activities as research participants to collect experimental behavior data and gaze movement data, and retrospective interviews were conducted. The collected data extracted and conceptualized behavior by heuristics. As a result of the study, there were five heuristics that appeared in the processing of the experimental manual: "reducing the difference between the target state and the current state," "guessing the experimental procedure," "paying attention to the expected results," "comparing with the picture of the experimental manual," and "using a trial and error strategy." According to each concept of heuristics, there were favorable and unfavorable aspects for experimental activities. In science experiment activities that students experience for the first time, there is a lack of information and the situation is uncertain, so behavior by heuristics appears in nature. Therefore, educators need to understand students' heuristics and guide scientific experimental activities.

  • In this study, numerical analysis was performed based on field investigation to derive an appropriate reinforcement method by analyzing the displacement behavior characteristics of concrete blocks generated in the direct fixation track on the bridges of the serviced light rail transit. The track of this study was a direct fixation track on a sharp curved track, and the problem of movement of the concrete blocks installed on the bridge deck in the longitudinal and lateral directions occurred. In this study, based on the finite element model using 3D solid elements, the behavior of the direct fixation track that could be occurred under operating load conditions was analyzed. In addition, the reinforcement effect of various reinforcement methods was analyzed. As a result of analyzing the lateral displacement before and after reinforcement, it was analyzed that the maximum lateral displacement after reinforcement under the extreme lateral wheel loads significantly decreased to about 3% (about 0.1mm) compared to before reinforcement. In addition, as a result of examining the generated stress of the filling mortar, bridge decks, and reinforcing bar, it was analyzed that all of them secured a sufficient safety factor of 2.6 or higher, and the optimal conditions for the reinforcement method were derived. Therefore, it is judged that the number of anchoring reinforcements and symmetrical anchor placement reviewed in this study will be effective in controlling the occurrence of lateral displacement of concrete blocks and securing the structural integrity of bridges and concrete blocks.
