In this study, we investigated the effects of cooperative learning by the levels of students' performance goal orientation in science classes on 6th graders' science achievement and science learning motivation. Two classes (47 students) from an elementary school were respectively assigned to a control group and a treatment group. A performance goal orientation test and a science learning motivation test were administered as pretests. The intervention of cooperative learning lasted for 24 class periods. A researcher-made achievement test and the science learning motivation test were administered after the instructions. ANCOVA results indicated that the score of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group in the achievement test. However, no interaction was found between the cooperative learning treatment and the levels of students' performance goal orientation. There were significant aptitude-treatment interactions in science learning motivation.

The importance and necessity of software(SW) education as a liberal arts was fully recognized by society. However, according to the previous research results, learners' motivation to learn in SW liberal arts was kept low for various reasons. Therefore, understanding the learning motivation and its changeability in SW liberal arts is necessary, but the related studies are not sufficient. In this paper, we analyzed changes in achievement goals using a 3 × 2 achievement goal model to examine changeability of achievement goals in a SW liberal arts class during one semester. As a result, we confirmed that the achievement goals were stable at both the group level and the individual level, but the order of each achievement goal was different from that of the previous studies. We also confirmed that the mastery goal of the classroom goal structure had a higher correlation with most achievement goals, but the performance goals had a correlation with some avoidance goals only. This means that additional research is needed for each key classroom goal structure type in SW education because the learning motivation in SW liberal arts has different aspect from the other existing liberal arts classes.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationship of variables affecting application of job training in the Integrated Public Health Promotion Program Personnel(IPHPPP); intrinsic motivation, individual oriented achievement motivation, achievement and satisfaction of program. The subjects were 115 IPHPPP who participated in job training program of Incheon City Integrated Health Promotion Support Team. Data were collected using a structure self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed by a ANOVA, correlational analysis, and path analysis. As a result, the application of job training was high in the 40s. There was no significant difference in each variable by job application. Application of job training was positively correlated with intrinsic motivation, individual oriented achievement motivation, achievement and satisfaction of program. Further, Application of job training was directly by intrinsic motivation, individual oriented achievement motivation, and indirectly by satisfaction of program. Satisfaction of program was directly or indirectly influenced by achievement and application of job training. This showed that satisfaction of program play an important role in application of job training. Increasing the motivation and satisfaction of the participants is necessary as a way to increase application of job training. This findings may help to design educational programs to improve application of job training for IPHPPP.

The purpose of this study was to identify the preferable motivation types in science-learning and to find out the relationship between these types and scientific achievement of students in the secondary school. The subjects of the study were the second grade 581 students sampled by random cluster sampling method in three middle schools and three high schools. Three motivation types in science learning were analyzed, and they were named to task-orientation, ego-orientation and work-avoidance. From our results, secondary school students preferred task-orientation and work-avoidance to ego-orientation. In the case of task-orientation, high school students, especially in male group, had much preferable tendency than that of middle school students (p<0.001). It is interpreted that, as the level of scientific content of texts or the cognitive level of students were higher, a preference for the motivation type was focused to the task-orientation, especially in male group. In the case of ego-orientation, the female group showed much preferable tendency than that of male group in middle school (p<0.05). However, the female group in high school students was not different from the other groups in this motivation type. In the case of work-avoidance, there were not only a significant difference between males and females in the middle school (p<0.001), but also difference between middle and high school students in female group (p<0.05). It showed that female group had much preferable tendency than that of male group, and this tendency was decreased to the higher grade students in secondary school. From the analysis of correlation between motivation types and scientific achievement, task-orientation and work-avoidance were correlated to the scientific achievement. Its results were interpreted that the scientific achievement could be accomplished by the external motivation stimulus as well as the scientific content of texts. The task-orientation were comparatively correlated to the intelligence quality. It means that the students having high intelligence quality showed much preferable for the task-orientation.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural relationships among the attitude toward science and science motivation such as affective characteristics, and self-regulated learning strategy such as cognitive factor of science achievement. 853 middle school students residing in Seoul completed questionnaires about attitude toward science, science motivation, and self-regulated learning strategy. The sample variance-covariance matrix was analysed using AMOS 20.0, and a maximum likelihood minimization function. The results are as follows: First, attitude toward science, science motivation and self-regulated learning strategy of middle school students were all found to have a significant direct effect on science achievement. Second, attitude toward science and science motivation in middle school students has a direct effect on the self-regulated learning strategy. Third, attitude toward science in middle school students has a substantial indirect effect on science achievement mediated by their self-regulated learning strategy. Forth, science motivation in middle school students has indirect effect on science achievement mediated by their self-regulated learning strategy. Therefore, in order to improve science achievement among middle school students, teachers should consider synthetically the affective characteristics such as attitude toward science and science motivation, and cognitive factor such as self-regulated learning strategy.

This study attempted to determine the relationship between college students' motivation for major selection (personal motivation, social motivation), academic performance, and career maturity, and to identify the influencing factors of career maturity in order to provide basic data for improving career maturity. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire from 199 university students in C city. As a result of examining the correlation between personal motivation for major selection, social motivation, academic achievement, and career maturity, career maturity showed a significant positive correlation with personal motivation for major selection (r=.417, p=.00) and no significant correlation with social motivation for major selection and academic achievement. The influencing factors of career maturity were personal motivation for major selection, economic activity, and major department, and the explanatory power was 24%. Therefore, it seems that university-level support is needed to enable students to engage in economic activities in fields related to their majors. Since personal motivation is important in major selection, we should focus on increasing personal motivation for major selection by providing high school students with a wide range of opportunities, such as career experience and future work experience.
Purpose: This study used a self-deterministic approach to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI), academic motivation (AM), and achievement among health science students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in three cities of Saudi Arabia (Dammam, Riyadh, and Jeddah). A convenience sample of 450 students was incorporated using the multistage cluster sampling technique. The online survey contained three sections: students' basic data and academic achievement level, the modified Schutte self-report inventory, and the Academic Motivation Scale lowercase. Results: This study revealed moderate overall scores for EI (57.1%), AM (55.6%), and grade point average (GPA) (57.6%). The overall EI score, its domains, and GPA had significant positive correlations with overall AM and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (p < .01). Amotivation had an insignificant correlation with GPA (p < .05), but it was negatively correlated with EI and its domains (p < .01). Multiple regression analysis proved that EI domains predicted 5.0% of GPA variance; emotions appraisal and expression (β = .02, p = .024), regulation (β = .11, p = .032), and utilization (β = .24, p < .01). EI domains also predicted 26.0% of AM variance; emotions appraisal and expression (β = .11, p = .04), regulation (β = .33, p < .01), and utilization (β = .23, p < .01). Moreover, AM predicted 4.0% of the variance in GPA; intrinsic (β = .25, p = .004) and extrinsic (β = .11, p = .022) motivation. AM also predicted 25.0% of the variance in EI: intrinsic (β = .34, p < .01) and extrinsic motivation (β = .26, p = .026). Conclusion: EI and AM have a bidirectional influence on each other, significantly shaping the GPA of health sciences students in Saudi Arabia, where intrinsic motivation has a predominant role. Thus, promoting students' AM and EI is recommended to foster their academic achievement.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the group reward and cooperative skill training on science achievement and learning motivation of elementary students. 3 classes of the 6th grade students were selected from an elementary school in Busan. Group I took traditional cooperative learning (TCL), group II took cooperative learning with competitive group reward (GR), and group III was trained in cooperative skill (CS) before cooperative learning. Students were taught about 'weather forecast' for thirteen periods and problem-based learning steps were applied in each class. The results from this study were as follows: First, there was an interactive effect between the treatment and achievement level in the science achievement test scores. In the case of high-level students the group reward was more effective than cooperative skill training on the science achievement; on the other hand, in the case of low-level students the cooperative skill training was more effective than the group reward on the science achievement. Second, there was no interactive effect between the treatment and achievement level in the motivation scores.
This study examined different individual, family factors and classroom environment that affect children's perceived competency. For an analysis, achievement motivation, intrinsic locus of control and anxiety were included in individual variables. For family factors, parental support and marital conflict were examined. For classroom psycho-social environment, teacher support, peer relations, classroom involvement and teacher control were used. The sample consisted of 565 fifth and sixth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were Cronbach's alpha, Factor analysis, frequency, percentage, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and Hierarchical Regression. Several major results were found from the analysis. First, boy's perceived academic competency was higher than girl's. And no sex difference was in children's social and athletic competency. Second, boy's and girl's perceived academic and social competency and boy's perceived athletic competency had a positive correlation with achievement motivation, intrinsic locus of control, parental support, teacher support, peer relations and classroom involvement. And girl's perceived athletic competency had a positive correlation with achievement motivation, intrinsic locus of control, parental support and peer relations. But boy's and girl's perceived academic and social competency and boy's perceived athletic competency had a negative correlation with anxiety and parental marital conflict. Third, the most important variable predicting boy's and girl's perceived academic competency was achievement motivation. The most important variable predicting boy's and girl's perceived social competency was peer relations. And the most important variable predicting boy's perceived athletic competency was peer relations. On the other hand, the most important variable predicting girl's perceived athletic competency was father's support.
The purpose of this study is to research the achievement motivation of beauty industry professionals. The research method involved one-on-one, in-depth interviews with 7 hair professionals, 7 make-up professionals and 7 skincare professionals. The in-depth interviews were recorded in their entirety, and the recorded content was transcribed and organized. Analysis of the transcribed data involved encoding, deconstructing and re-composing the interview content. Research results revealed 5 factors that were extracted to explain the achievement motivation of beauty industry professionals. Four of the 5 factors were similar to the results of precedent studies, but the remaining factor presented unique characteristics. The 4 common factors were "motive to pursue success", "motive to avoid failure", "motive to meet challenges" and "goal-oriented motive". The factor discovered in this study was "relationship-oriented motive", which is characterized by the tendency to place importance in relationships with superiors, colleagues and customers based on the working characteristics of beauty industry professionals. Based on the results of this study, beauty industry professionals can learn about goals that must be met in various stages in order to establish a system for accomplishing those goals, implement an emotional education program for mental balance, introduce a competitive team system, and carry out a relationship improvement program to increase work efficiency.
