  • In university liberal arts education, learners' achievement goals are an important research topic, and this also applies to liberal arts software education. In this paper, we analyzed changes in learning motivation of learners taking liberal arts software courses according to course classification using a 3 × 2 achievement goal model. The analysis was conducted on a discussion-oriented class taken together by learners receiving credits for different purposes, such as required and elective. As a result, it was confirmed that learners begin the semester with similar achievement goals. However, the avoidance goals of learners taking elective courses decreased, showing a significant difference at the end of the semester. It was a different result from the existing liberal arts software education studies that pointed to mandatory enrollment as the cause of lack of motivation to learn. In addition, it was confirmed that learners who take elective courses relatively focus on achievement rather than competition.

  • The assessment affects the learning motivation of students. If we know what factors in assessment affect motivation, we could find the method for stimulating the motivation. In this study, we used two kinds of method, the recollection paper and the questionnaire. 54 undergraduates of a university in Seoul made the recollection paper about the science learning before, and 63 undergraduates also answered the question for the effect of factors in assessment on the science learning motivation. In result, the factors in assessment that affect the science learning motivation of high achieving students are the achievement, difficulty, validity, and preparation for science fair. This study suggests that difficulty and validity of assessments remarkably affects the science motivation and the science fair is more affective to the science motivation than regular examination in school. Therefore we suggest two methods for the science motivation of high achieving students. The first method is to make questions that can assess scientific thinking faculty and investigating faculty without pre-learning and memorizing. The second method is to encourage various activities in science to increase the number of chance for participating in them.

  • The modem society has been talked as the age of uncertainty, the age discontinuity and the information society. The future society is forcasted the creativity society. Both the achievement motive and the creativity be suggested as an important factors to accomplish the individual goals and organizational performance. The achievement motive has the major implications in increasing the level of achievement motive between high and low creative group. The employee creativity is the emergence in action of a novel relational product, growing out of the uniqueness of the individual on the hand, and materals, events people or cirumstances of his life on the other. It has been treated as an impotant factor to solve the complex management ploblems for the management. The major purpose of this study are (1) to review the theory of an achievement motivation and the creativity, (2) to provide both management and scholars with the practical and useful implications on the development of the employee cretivity in improving the management performance.

  • In this study, the effects of STAD cooperative learning strategy on students' achievement, learning motivation, perceptions of learning environment, and perceived classroom goal structure were investigated in terms of students' collectivism level. Two classes (64 students) from an elementary school were respectively assigned to a control group and a treatment group. A individualism-collectivism test, a learning motivation test, a perceptions of learning environment test, and a perceived classroom goal structure test were administered as pretests. The intervention of cooperative learning lasted for 24 class periods. After instruction, an achievement test, the learning motivation test, the perceptions of learning environment test, and the perceived classroom goal structure test were administered. The results indicated that the students of the treatment group significantly outperformed those of the control group in the achievement test. There was a significant treatment-aptitude interaction effect in the scores of the attention subcategory of the learning motivation. In the perceptions of learning environment, the score of the treatment group was significantly higher than the control group in the cohesiveness subcategory, whereas the score of the treatment group was significantly lower than their counterpart in the competitiveness subcategory. It was also found that the score of the treatment group was significantly higher than the control group in the performance subcategory of the perceived classroom goal structure.

  • This study is to search an optimal model on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and motivation strategy in chemistry education. The participants in this study are consisted of G and I high schools students (487) in Gwangju. They all answered to the questionnaire. Model I is hypothesized to be path model of the mediation between 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory of intelligence' and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency of motivation strategy' by goal orientation to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. And Model II is hypothesized path model of the mediation between goal orientation and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency' by 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory' to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. Based on these models, structural equation modeling techniques are used to evaluate for the path model among goal orientation(learning, performance approach, and performance approach goal orientation), self-efficacy, achievement need, entity theory of intelligence, self-handicapping tendency, and learning strategy in chemistry education. As the results, Model II is considered. Goodness-of-fit indexes of this model related modification models are identified and analyzed in phases. And this model is accomplished by correcting the model the fifth time to enhance goodness-of-fit indexes. In this optimal model II-5 (Fig. 3) on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and learning strategy (p
