In order to adapt to the economic change with the rapid world change, the wise consumers should have positive cognizance of their roles and are requested to fulfil their duties as a consummer. Such capability of the consumer could be acquired from home, mass media and school, and specially the role of mother at home would have a great influence on their early children's consummer activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the interrelationship of the consumer behavior between mother and their children. As a result of this study, the mother with higher educational background could manage effectively the allowance of the children. The mother with older age had a great influence on the consumer's role of the children and high record of the execution. Employed mother had higher level of execution for the consumer's rights than their count part. Accordingly, the consumer behavior of the mother will have an influence on the children's consumer behavior. Such a result showed the meaningful statistic relations(r=3.6, p<.001) for the economy activity of the children the home management and economy life of the mother, and the purchasing activity of the children including the execution of the consumer's right. In their regard, there was the significant statistic relations(r=19, p<.05) between the children's pocket money and the housekeeping management of the mother. In the meantime, it showed that another changing factor concerned with the consumer behavior of the mother have little influence the children's allowance.
The purpose of this study is to examine the intergenerational transmission of mother-daughter attachment across three generations, and to determine whether the mother-daughter attachment of three generations influences the adult daughter's ego-resilience. The subjects of this study were 310 unmarried adult women aged 20${\sim}$29, residing in the Busan area, and their 310 middle-aged mothers. The mothers responded to two sets of questionnaire investigating their attachment to their mothers (G1-G2) in the past and the present attachment to their adult daughters (G2-G3). Meanwhile, the adult daughters were given questionnaires regarding their attachment to their mothers and their ego-resiliency. The measurements used for this study were the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) and the Ego-Resiliency Scale (ER). Among the distributed questionnaires, 265 sets were collected and 252 sets were actually analyzed using SPSS 12.0 after 13 sets had been excluded due to incomplete data. Basic statistics were used such as frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical regression analysis. The study results were as follows. First, the adult daughter-mother (G2-G3) attachment was explained mostly by mother-grandmother (G1-G2) attachment, daughter's age, and economic status of the family. The strongest factor was the mother-grandmother attachment which implies the transmission of attachment through generations. Second, among the factors that influenced the ego-resilience of an unmarried adult daughter, attachment to one's mother perceived by the daughter turned out to be the most significant. Especially, the more positive the adult daughter's emotion toward her mother and the higher the daughter's education, the stronger the ego-resilience of the adult single daughter was. It was concluded that the mother-daughter attachment remained consistent throughout three generations, which influenced the social-psychological adjustment of the adult unmarried daughter.
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the mother-daughter structure presented in Annie John, Kincaid's autobiographical novel as a metaphor for the relationship between the powerful colonizer and the powerless colonized. The representation of the mother in Annie John is ambiguous and ambivalent. On the one hand, the mother in the childhood, in its association with the African-rooted Caribbean world before Antigua was colonized, is represented as a person who nurtures the daughter, and embodies a paradisiacal pre-oedipal union with the daughter. On the other hand, the mother at the adolescent stage, placed in the specific colonial context of the Caribbean, is represented as a scornful person/colonizer who dominates and controls the daughter's behavior to keep her as a dependent and subjugated subject. Therefore, the two conflicting worlds, the African and the European, coexist in the contradictory figure of the mother. The theoretical basis of my argument is a mixture of Chodorow's and Kristeva's feministic psychoanalysis and Bhabha's notion of "mimicry" and "ambivalence." Kristeva's work on "abjection" is especially useful and helpful for contextualizing Annie's individuation and separation from the mother who is represented as enigmatic.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a coparenting scales(mother's version) suitable for the Korean situation. Methods: In this study, mothers with one or more children were targeted. First, factor structure and construct validity were verified(N=412), and second, cross-validation and concurrent validity were verified(N=312). Results: The coparenting scale(mother's version) is largely composed of the mother's own coparenting and their spouse's coparenting. First, as a result of performing an exploratory factor analysis, three factors were extracted from the mother's own coparenting and their spouse's coparenting, and they were labeled parenting cooperation, parenting agreement, and parenting sharing. Through confirmatory factor analysis, 13 items were identified with three factors. Second, cross-validation was performed on a new group with confirmatory factor analysis, and as a result, validity was secured by satisfying the model validation criteria. In addition, the correlation between the existing scale and parenting efficacy was significant, thus securing concurrent validity. Conclusion/Implications: Through this study, the coparenting scale(mother's version) that was developed may provide practical guidelines for family coparenting by identifying mothers' perceptions of coparenting, and can be used in parent education and child-rearing policies.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between failure mindset of the mother and adolescent, along with the mediating effects of mother's happiness and mother-adolescents (first and second-year middle school students in Seoul) open communication. For this study, self-reported data of 270 mother-adolescent dyads were analyzed using SPSS and Process macro Model 6. The results revealed that the mother's failure mindset directly predicted their adolescent's failure mindset. The mediating effect of the mother-adolescent open communication was significant, but the mediating effect of the mother's happiness was not significant. However, the mediation effect of the mother's failure mindset on the adolescent's failure mindset through mother's happiness and mother-adolescent open communication was significant. These results suggest that "failure-is-enhancing" mindset of mothers improve their positive affect and parenting skills, which contributes to developing adolescent's belief system about failure. Putting the results together, this study is significant in that it identified the intergenerational relationship of the failure mindset. Besides, the study results serve as a foundation for intervening on the adolescent's failure mindset by verifying the developmental mechanism of the failure mindset.
This study examined effects of children's emotionality, interpersonal problem solving strategies, and maternal behaviors during mother-child interaction on children's social competence as rated by teachers. Data were analyzed separately for boys and girls. A total of 102 children(60 boys, 42 girls; aged 5-6) and their mothers were studied. Children's positive and negative emotionality were related to their social competence. Positive solving strategies were positively related to boy's social competence; negative solving strategies had negative to both boy's and girl's social competence. Mother's negative affect related negatively to boy's social competence and mother's sensitivity/guidance related positively to girl's social competence. When children's emotionality and interpersonal problem solving strategies were controlled, maternal behaviors during mother-child interaction did not contribute to children's social competence.
This study was performed was performed to identify the predictability of maternal attitude from infant's temperament and mother's mental stability. It was focused on the comparison of the degree of predictability between infant's temperament and mother's mental stability. Data were collected from sixty-five mothers of infants. Mother's affective attitude was explained by both the maternal mental stability and the infant's temperament. After controlling the effect of mental stability, infant's temperament could explain the affective attitude. This result meant that infant's temperament showed the powerful effect on the maternal affective attitude. However, maternal controlling attitude was only explained by her mental stability but not by infant's temperament. This meant that infant's temperament could not explain mother's controlling behavior. However, interactive effect between infant's sex and temperament was found in the controlling attitude. Mothers showed more controlling attitude toward the difficult boys but not toward the difficult girls.
This study examined the relationships between children's perceptions of mother's psychological control, and children's behavior problems(depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible mediator effects of children's emotional autonomy on the relationships. The subjects were 293 6th graders residing in Cheonan. It was found that children's perceptions of mother's psychological control was significantly related with the level of children's depression, anxiety, withdrawal, and aggression. Children's emotional autonomy were found to be a significant mediator of the relationship between mother's psychological control and children's depression and aggression. No significant mediator effect of emotional autonomy was found in the relationship between mother's psychological control and children's withdrawal and anxiety.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships of mother's childrearing behavior, children's behavior problems, locus of control and peer victimization. The subjects were 360 children of 4th and 6th grade and their mothers. The instruments were Peer Victimization Scale, CBCL, Locus of Control Scale for Children, Childrearing Behavior Scale. The major findings of this study were as follows; (1) The type of peer victimization had a significant difference between girls and boys. That is, boys were more focused on overt victimization than girls. There was no significant gender difference in relational victimization, And there was no significant grade difference in overt and relational victimization. (2) Mother's rejection-restriction childrearing behavior, children's social withdrawal behavior problems, extemal locus of control predicted children's peer victimization. 24% of the variance of children's peer victimization was explained by these variables. (3) Mother's rejection-restriction childrearing behavior was the first contribution factor and had a direct and indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's peer victimization. And children's social withdrawal behavior problems was second contribution factor and had a direct effect on children's peer victimization. Children's locus of control had a direct and indirect effect through children's social withdrawal behavior problems on children's peer victimization. Mother's warmth-acceptance and permissiveness-nonintervention childrearing behavior had indirect effect through children's locus of control on children's peer victimization.
The object of this study was to examine the sex role attitudes of the housewives(mothers) and daughters in Seoul, and whether mother sex role attitude had influence on her daughter's and the sociodemographic variables of mother had an effect on her daughter sex role attitude or not. Questionnaire was given to randomly selected mothers and daughters in Seoul in sept., 1983. Data from the 384 responses was analyzed by percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, F-test and t-test . It was found that; 1) Generally, the housewives in Seoul had traditional sex role attitudes. 2) the housewives who were educated the high level, paied the higher salary and employed in professional job had the moderner sex role attitudes, age, religion, employed or unemployed were not variables to have influence on the mother sex role attitude. 3) The adolescent daughters in Seoul had moderner sex role attitude than that if their mothers. 4) Mother sex role attitude had influence on the daughter's 5) The daughter sex role attitude was influenced by the mother's sociodemographic variables. The daughter sex role attitude brought up form the mother who was educated the higher level and employed in professional job was modern. But mother's age, religion and employed or unemployed had little influence on the daughter sex role attitude.
