  • The present study has measured eight pollen morphological parameters of Diploxylon species in Korea by light microscopy (LM). The results are as follows; 1. Diploxylon species in Korea showed significant (P<0.01) interspecific difference in their pollen morphological parameters. 2. The discriminant analysis based on the pollen morphological parameters demonstrated that the classification ratio of Diploxylon was 49.9%. The maximum was at Pinus banksiana (72.8%) and the minimum was at P. sylvestris (62.2%). 3. The relationship among the Diploxylon species based on their pollen morphological parameters showed that P. densiflora and P. sylvestris were had the closest relationship while P. rigida and banksiana had the least relationship.

  • The present study was conducted to compare of pollen morphological characteristics for five Haploxylon species in Korea using light microscopy(LM). The results are as follows; 1. Highly significant (P<0.01) interspecific difference was observed in five Haploxylon species for their pollen morphological parameters. 2. The discreminant analysis based on the pollen morphological parameters demonstrated that the classification ratio of Haploxylon was 68.8 % ranging from 72.8 % of Pinus pumila to 62.2 % P. koraiensis. 3. The relationship among the species based on their pollen morphological parameters showed that P. koraiensis and P. pumila in Haploxylon were most closely related while P. pumila and P. bungeana were least related.

  • Researches on chromosome are very significant in cytogenetics since a gene of the chromosome controls revelation of the inheritance plasma The human chromosome analysis is widely used to diagnose genetic disease and various congenital anomalies. Many researches on automated chromosome karyotype analysis has been carried out, some of which produced commercial systems. However, there still remains much room for improving the accuracy of chromosome classification. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for reconstruction of the chromosDme image to improve the chromosome classification accuracy. Morphological feature parameters are extracted from the reconstructed chromosome images. The reconstruction method from chromosome image is the 32 direction line algorithm. We extract three morphological feature parameters, centromeric index(C.I.), relative length ratio(R.L.), and relative area ratio(R.A.), by preprocessing ten human chromosDme images. The experimental results show that proposed algorithm is better than that of other researchers'comparing by feature parameter errors.

  • The morphological analysis of wear particle is a very effective means fur machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. In order to describe morphology of various wear particle, the wear test was carried out under friction experimental conditions. And fractal descriptors was applied to boundary and surface of wear particle with image processing. These descriptors to analyze shape and surface of wear particle are shape fractal dimension and surface fractal dimension. The boundary fractal dimension can be derived from the boundary profile and surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. The morphology of wear particles can be effectively obtained by two fractal parameter.

  • Many researchers have been studied for the automatic chromosome karyotype classification and analysis. For the automatic classify the each chromosome which is the image in microscope, it is necessary to process the sub-procedure, ie. image pre-processing, implementing karyotype classifier. The image pre-processing proceeded the each chromosome separation, the noise exception and the feature parameter extraction. The extracted morphological feature parameter were the centromeric index(C.I.), the relative length ratio(R.L.), and the relative area ratio(R.A.). In this paper, the fuzzy classifier was implemented for the human chromosome karyotype classification. The extracted morphological feature parameter were used in the input parameter of fuzzy classifier. We studied about the selection of the membership function for the optimal fuzzy classifier in each chromosome groups.

  • Effect of Quartz porphyty(QP) on functional and morphological changes of the liver and kidney was studied in male common finch and white java sparrow fed with the basal diet(Control group) or experimental diet containing 3.0% QP(QP group) for 14 days. There was not significantly different morphological change of the liver upon light microscopic examination in common finch and white java sparrow between control group and QP group. Morphological change of renal tissue upon light microscopic examination in common finch and white java sparrow was not also significantly different between control group and QP group. The concentrations of serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and nric acid as renal functional parameters of common finch and white java sparrow were not significantly different in the both groups. The activity of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) as hepatic functional parameter in common finch was significantly higher in the QP group($\rho$<0.05), whereas the activity of glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) as hepatic functional parameter in common finch was not significantly different in the both groups. The activities of GOP and GPT in white java sparrow were not significantly different in the both groups. The morphologic findings and functional parameters of the liver and kidney observed in common finch and white java sparrow fed with 3.0% QP diet showed evidence of slightly liver damage accompanied with increased release of enzyme and fatty change of the hepatocytes in common finch, suggested that the tissues in some animals can be damaged by feeding a diet supplemented with 3.0% QP.

  • We study the effects of the cluster environment on galactic morphology by defining a dimensionless angular momentum parameter ld, to obtain a quantitative and objective measure of galaxy type. The use of this physical parameter allows us to take the study of morphological transformations in clusters beyond the measurements of merely qualitative parameters, e.g. S/E ratios, to a more physical footing. To this end, we employ an extensive SDSS sample, with galaxies associated with Abell galaxy clusters. The sample contains 93 relaxed Abell clusters and over 34,000 individual galaxies. We find that the median ld value tends to decrease as we approach the cluster center, with different dependences according to the mass of the galaxies and the hosting cluster; low and intermediate mass galaxies showing a strong dependence, while massive galaxies seems to show, at all radii, low ld values. By analysing trends in ld as functions of the nearest galactic neighbour environment, clustercentric radius and velocity dispersion of clusters, we can identify clearly the leading physical processes at work. We find that in massive clusters (s > 700 km/s), the interaction with the cluster central region dominates, whilst in smaller clusters galaxy-galaxy interactions are chiefly responsible for driving galactic morphological transformations.

  • This paper was undertaken to do morphological analysis of wear particles for sliding members hydraulic rotary actuator. The lubricating wear test was performed under different experimental conditions using the wear test device and wear specimens of the pin on disk type was rubbed in paraffinic base oil by three kinds of lubricating materials, varying applied load, sliding distance. The four-shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) are used for morphological analysis of wear particles. The results showed that the four shape parameters of wear particles depend on a kind of the lubricating materials. It was capable of presuming wear volume for three kinds of materials on driving time.

  • Morphological analysis of wear particles is one of useful methods for machine condition monitoring because it is well reflected in machine driving state. This paper was undertaken to apply to the condition monitoring of hydraulic piston motor. The lubricating wear test was performed under different experimental conditions using the wear test device and wear specimens of the pin on disk type was rubbed in paraffinic base oil by three kinds of lubricating materials, varying applied load, sliding distance. The four shape parameters(50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) are used for morphological analysis of wear particles. The results showed that the four shape parameters of wear particles depend on a kind of the lubricating materials. It was capable of calculating presumed wear volume for three kinds of materials on driving time to foresee as damage condition of lubricating materials.
