  • This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition with respect to the Code of Ethics of nurses among nursing students. A descriptive correlation research design was used for this study. The subjects were 299 nursing students in two large cities from 1 June to 31 July 2015. Collected data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and stepwise multiple regression by the SPSS 22.0 program. The results revealed that female subjects comprised 86.65% of the subjects and the mean age was 21.67 years. Awareness of the Code of Ethics for nurses was positively correlated with the consciousness of biomedical ethics(p<0.001), moral sensitivity(p<0.001), and critical thinking disposition(p<0.001). However, there were negative correlations between grade(p=0.017), marital state(p=0.012), and the possibility of increasing ethical problems according to the development of bioscience(p=0.012). Significant influencing factors of the awareness of the Code of Ethics for nurses included grade(p=0.013), marital state(p=0.030), consciousness of biomedical ethics(p=0.017), moral sensitivity(p<0.001), and critical thinking disposition(p=0.001), with apower of explanation of 26.3%. The results of this study show that the consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition are factors influencing the code of ethics for nurses among nursing students.

  • The present study investigated the relationships between autistic trait and socio-moral judgments. We used Autism Spectrum Quotient, a moral judgment task in which participants needed to consider both the intention and outcomes of a person's actions, a moral judgment task in which participants were asked to evaluate a person's utilitarian choices in moral dilemmas, and Moral Foundations Questionnaire. Autistic traits were negatively correlated with blame for failed attempts to harm others, suggesting that higher autistic traits were associated with difficulty in considering intentions in moral judgments. Also, higher autistic traits were associated with higher endorsement of utilitarian option on personal moral dilemmas, and lower endorsement for no-harm principle of moral foundations. These correlations were confirmed as group differences between high autistic-trait group (AQ >= 26) and a low autistic-trait group (AQ < 26). Our findings suggest that individuals with high autistic trait may have difficulty in considering others' intentions and show lower sensitivity to no-harm principle in moral judgment tasks.

  • This study is a descriptive survey study that attempted to confirm clinical nurses' consciousness of biomedical ethics, moral sensitivity, critical thinking deposition, and nursing ethics code of clinical nurses, as well as to identify the factors influencing the recognition of the nursing code of ethics. The general and ethical characteristics of the subject were calculated by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and the difference for each variable according to the general and ethical characteristics was analyzed using SAS 9.4, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé test. The average, standard deviation, and the minimum and maximum values were used for the scores of each variable, and the correlation was determined using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Multiple regression was used to identify the factors that influence the recognition of the nurse's code of ethics. All variables showed significant correlations. Critical thinking deposition (p<.05) was the most influential variable in recognizing the code of ethics for nurses. Critical thinking deposition (p<.001), consciousness in biomedical ethics (p<.001), and moral sensitivity (p<.001) were shown to be affected in order, with 27.4% explaining power. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply educational programs to clinical nurses that can improve critical thinking, life and bioethics, and moral sensitivity.
