1890년에 설립된 시카고대의 초대 수학과장으로 미국수학사에서 결정적 역할을 담당했던 E. H. Moore는 걸출한 인재들을 길러내며 20세기 전반에 미국수학이 수학연구의 주류로 진입하는데 결정적 기여를 하였다. 그는 시카고대에서 실험적 교수법을 시도하였고, 그 결과, 연구력이 뛰어난 수많은 제자를 배출하였다. R. L. Moore는 E. H. Moore의 실험적 교수법과는 차별화된, 지금은 Texas 교수법 또는 Moore 교수법으로 알려져 있는 새로운 방식의 수학교수법을 대학수학교육에 적용하였다. 그는 20세기 전반, 미국수학이 빠르게 발전하는 과정에서 결정적인 역할을 담당했던 Veblen이나 Birkhoff와는 차별화된 중요한 역할을 수행하였다. 따라서 미국수학의 발전에 특별한 역할을 수행했던 R. L. Moore의 연구 경력과 Moore 교수법 및 R. L. Moore가 배출한 제자들의 역할에 대한 의미 있는 분석을 필요로 한다. 본 원고는 텍사스대에서 학문적 일생을 보낸 R. L. Moore와 그의 Moore 교수법, 또 그의 영향으로 탄생한 'American school of topology'가 미국수학사에서 갖는 의미를 분석하고, 20세기 전반 미국 수학의 학문적 도약과정이 현재의 한국수학계에 시사하는 바를 고찰한다.

As a poet, a reviewer of books, and an editor of a major literary journal, Marianne Moore participated in aesthetic revolution which invented the American poetry of the twentieth century. Of all the modernists, she was one of the few truly technical originals, and became an endearing mascot of poetry. Innately attentive to detail, Moore wrote a myriad of poems about animal and plant subjects, and set out to develope and secure her own particular paradigm for modernist poetic and the poetry of objective and scientific description. Foregrounding a mind scientifically trained, Moore used her verse to demonstrate a means by which to see the reality beyond the obvious. Ironically enough, however, a central difficulty with understanding Moore's poetry lies with her concern for such scientific or surface description and precision. In order to understand Moore's poetry fully, it is of special necessity to appreciate relativity among the seemingly disparate entities such as science and literature, as Moore herself did. This paper explores the way in which the poetic techniques of Moore substantiate her sense of morality that underlies the creation of her poetry. Rather than merely addressing her artistic genius or craftsmanship as a modernist poet, Moore's methods engage the power of imagination, magic, lifting the human spirit and eschewing anthropocentric perspectives. For Moore, the poet's magic comes by diligence. In so doing, as I would argue here, Moore draws on the nature of language, especially what Bakhtin insisted with his notions of polyphony and carnival. By introducing openness to various perspectives and meanings in her verse, Moore succeeds in maintaining her own sense of creativity while continuing to acknowledge morality. In a similar skein, her use of active verbs in animal poems and the kaleidoscopic descriptions demonstrate how Moore accommodates imagination and reality, and form and content.

The concept of the Moore-Penrose inverse in an indefinite inner product space is introduced. Extensions of some of the formulae in the Euclidean space to an indefinite inner product space are studied. In particular range-hermitianness is completely characterized. Equivalence of a weighted generalized inverse and the Moore-Penrose inverse is proved. Finally, methods of computing the Moore-Penrose inverse are presented.

In this paper we have a concern on the Moore-Penrose inverse of two kinds of partitioned matrices of the form [V X] and [{{{{ {V atop {X} {{{{ {X atop { 0} }}] where V is symmetric. The Moore-Penrose inverse of the partitioned matrices can be reduced to be simpler forms according to some algebraic conditions. Firstly we investigate the representations of the Moore-Penrose inverses of the partitioned matrices under four al-gebraic conditions. Each condition reduces the Moore-Penrose inverses of the partitioned matrices under four al-gebraic conditions. Each condition reduces the Morre-Penrose inverse into some simpler form. Also equivalant conditions will be considered. Finally we will perform a simulation study to investigate which con-dition is the most important in the sense that which condition occurs the most frequently in the real situation. The simluation study will show us a particular condition occurs the most likely tha other conditions. This fact enables us to obtain the Morre-Penrose inverse with less computational efforts and computational storage.

Many procedures for deriving the Moore-Penrose invese $X^+$ have been developed, but the explicit forms of Moore-Penerose inverses for design matrices in analysis of variance models are not known heretofore. The purpose of this paper is to find explicit forms of $X^+$ for the one-way and the two-way analysis of variance models. Consequently, the Moore-Penerose inverse $X^+$ and the shortest solutions of them can be easily obtained to the level of pocket calculator by way of our results.

We characterize hypergeneralized k-projectors (i.e., $A^k=A^{\dag}$). Also, some representation for the Moore-Penrose inverse of a linear combination of hypergeneralized k-projectors is found and the invertibility for some linear combinations of commuting hypergeneralized k-projectors is considered.

Necessary and sufficient conditions are provided under which the weighted Moore-Penrose inverse A^†_MN exists, where A is an adjointable operator between Hilbert C^⁎-modules, and the weights M and N are only self-adjoint and invertible. Relationship between weighted Moore-Penrose inverses A^†_MN is clarified when A is fixed, whereas M and N are variable. Perturbation analysis for the weighted Moore-Penrose inverse is also provided.

미국수학사에서 가장 중요한 시기로 여겨지는 1890년에서 1950년 사이의 미국수학계의 발전과정을 당시의 미국수학 연구에 있어서 혁신적 발전의 계기를 제공한 시카고 대학의 초대 수학과장 E.H. Moore 의 역할을 중심으로 고찰한다. 19세기말 아직 낙후되었던 미국 수학계는 시카고 대학의 핵심 학과였던 수학과는 총장의 비전을 같이 할 우수교수를 확보하고, 새로운 제도 하에서 선발된 우수 대학원 학생들을 탐구지향 교수법으로 지도하며 미국 수학연구의 초장기에 우수한 인재를 공급하기 시작한다. 이를 통하여 미국은 인재양성과 새로운 연구 분야 및 연구방법의 개척에 성공하고, 1950년 국제수학자대회(ICM)를 미국에서 개최하며, 당당히 세계수학의 주류에 진입한다. 본 원고는 위의 발전과정이 현재 한국에 주는 의미를 분석한다.

HoxB4 has been shown to enhance hematopoietic engraftment by hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) from differentiating mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC) cultures. Here we examined the effect of ectopic expression of HoxB4 in differentiated human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Stable HoxB4-expressing hESCs were established by lentiviral transduction, and the forced expression of HoxB4 did not affect stem cell features. HoxB4-expressing hESC-derived CD34+ cells generated higher numbers of erythroid and blast-like colonies than controls. The number of CD34+ cells increased but CD45+ and KDR+ cell numbers were not significantly affected. When the hESC derived CD34+ cells were transplanted into $NOD/SCID{\beta}2m-/-$ mice, the ectopic expression of HoxB4 did not alter their repopulating capacity. Our findings show that overexpression of HoxB4 in differentiating hESCs increases hematopoietic colony formation and hematopoietic cell formation in vitro, but does not affect in vivo repopulation in adult mice hosts.
